The problem isn't just guns

It's VIOLENT people with guns and what those guns are designed to do.

This problem can't be solved with just one fix, it requires a comprehensive solution to a complex problem.

Deal with the violence, deal with guns that in the hands of the wrong people, deal with the sheer amount of weapons that have flooded our streets and deal with they types of weapons that only have a purpose to cause mass and frequent casualties.

People, capacity, volume and violence.

We need the right formula for this problem.

1. Why does it appear that societally we are having problems

with conflict resolution and coping skills? I work in social services and I see it everyday. I think those are questions we are afraid to ask because it will require looking in the mirror.

2. That's exactly right

America is a terribly violent country.

Knowing what types of guns we have, what they can do, why we own them and what we're doing with them should clue us all in to the whys and wherefores.

4. And to add

Guns are just one facet of expression in our psychosis. What is not reported, what is not on tv is the emotional violence we inflict on each other daily. I'm not talking about bullying, we can see that and point to it. I'm talking about the way in which we treat the human next to us, the ones we say we love, neighbors, strangers. I know I have more times than I want to know hurt others, by my words, actions. Why do we not ask those who are hurting, or suffering, "What ails thee?" That is what we do not want to face, because it has to start with you.

3. I agree MrScorpio

But with HIPPA - it's going to make that path very difficult.

But - I also think we need to chip away at this bit by bit. My husband is a juried artist/sculptor. He might start with a very large piece of iron or marble. He looks at - sees the possibility - and then chips away. There's always something of value in a big hunk of well 'nothing'. But if we chip away bit, by bit, by bit - we'll get there.

5. And dealing with the ignorance which lies at the heart of the fear...

which is then exploited by the unscrupulous to perpetuate this culture of violence, culture of poverty, and culture of ignorance.
