1. He needs to step down as Maj Leader

He can keep his job as Senator, though.

11. Can you explain why?

How/why do you think Reid's actions benefit the political process?

18. I realize Harry failed...and this can cripple Obama

for the next 4 years....thus cripple us. Let's take a look at why he failed...it is a team effort and the other Democrats didn't want to do their job, didn't back true filibuster reform....

I think Harry had every intention to do a complete overhaul....some, a few, but enough other Democrats for whatever reason stood along the sidelines. I'm disgusted....but we don't necessarily need to remove Harry....the problem is an old, familiar one....cohesiveness.

It is the team that failed.

21. I kept hearing, up to the last minute, that there were 51 votes needed to pass a stonger filibuster

Did something change? If so, you wouldn't happen to have a link about support dropping below 51 votes?

34. Thanks.

If I heard the news correctly yesterday, this vote won't be public regarding how Senators voted. Which sucks. A lot.

25. Do you have a link with the names of all 51 votes? Being as you assert it was a fact-

those absolute positive 51 votes should be on the record.

23. Yes, because his job is majority do-nothing-person

oh wait...that's not right. What is he again? Majority leader? Well then, maybe he's supposed to lead the majority.

He claimed to have enough votes yesterday for the 41-vote fix, which would be a massive improvement.

Not for Udal/Merkley, but for much better reforms than this crap.

8. I think Sen Reid is doing what the Senators the elected him want him too.

If he had the votes and didnt call for the vote, I think those Senators that wanted reform would speak out. If he didnt have the votes then you should vent your anger on the 8 or 9 Democrats that pledged to vote with Republicans for no reform.

15. This isn't just one person.

This is corporate kabuki, bipartisan complicity, and utterly necessary to ensure the excuse of not possibly being able to pass legislation for the people and against corporations.

Don't we know this corrupt script by heart, by now?

26. Regardless of what happened, you have to admit it is great theater for the masses who watch.

Now, the Democrats in the Senate can say they tried an honest faith attempt at reform without actually being forced to name the specific senators in their caucus that bolted and sided with the Republicans.

32. Yeah, it IS wrong. Harry did his job well - FOR THE REPUBLICANS.

These fuckers should all be primaried. I'm so sick and tired of "Democratic" senators who get the vapors when they have to do something for We the People, but are all gungho for anything and everything Big Business wants.

They are purposely hog-tying the president and his agenda. Obama should have asked for their DNC blessings before he decided to get all uppity and run for President. Now he's pissed them off and they're working hard at making him a lame-duck for the next four years.

29. I don't know what happened (been working long hours). But maybe it's time for someone new....

Maybe.

OTOH, it's difficult leading your party in the Senate. The main job is to get votes on particular bills. Harry Reid does seem to know how to do that pretty well.

A young guy? A young guy can't become leader of the party in the Senate. He would be replaced by another older, long-termer.

Because he swore to defend Social Security to the hilt. DUers sang his praises endlessly, post after post, what a courageous and steel-spined Democrat he was ...

My, how times change.
