Geneticist Asked To Join Search For Clues In Newtown Massacre

As detectives continue to comb through evidence and talk to people who witnessed Friday's mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the state's chief medical examiner is seeking clues in the gunman's biology.

Dr. H. Wayne Carver has asked a geneticist at the University of Connecticut to join in his investigation of the killings. Carver is awaiting toxicology testing results for gunman Adam Lanza, 20, and information that may help answer the question of why Lanza gunned down 20 first-graders and six women at Sandy Hook.

"I'm exploring with the department of genetics what might be possible, if anything is possible," Carver said Tuesday. "Is there any identifiable disease associated with this behavior?"

1. The disease of gun nuttery is responsible. It appears

he either inherited it or caught it from his mother.

3. Guns certainly facilitated the slaughter of 20 mere babies and 6 caretakers all to HELL,

even if they didn't cause whatever disorder contributed. Yes. Mom's gun-nuttery and the country's gun-nuttery is responsible, ultimately.

2. They really need to autopsy the shooters brain for signs of cysts or tumors.

Just an easy thing to do and analyze.

6. They can still study it...

They will be able to determine if there are abnormalities of the brain despite this. It will depend on exactly how much damage was done to the brain itself. It can make it difficult, but not impossible.

7. I think it's highly unlikely.

Whatever may remain of it would require fixation, and that takes a while. Absent any obvious structural abnormalities or plaque formations there would be little to learn. I doubt much usable, unaffected material even remains to make it useful.

I really hope I'm wrong. I hope they are able to glean some value.

5. They will also do toxicology testing...

to see if he was under the influence of any medications or drugs. This geneticist is probably going to be looking at genetic and hereditary factors as well. I expect it'll be some time before get an official autopsy report.
