PSY still performing at Christmas in Washington concert? Obama makes a huge mistake to attend ...

After the uproar about his anti-American lyrics, if PSY is permitted to perform at the Washington concert, and if the President attends, he is making a huge mistake.

PSY apologized. Why? Becuase he is making a mint off of America. He doesn't want to endanger that. That is ALL, the ONLY reason for the apology.

Cancel his gig at the concert. Today. Screw him and his Gangnam Style.

3. I don't get the outrage over PSY

It's certainly not hte first pop, rock, or rap song to have ridiculously stupid and high shock value lyrics to sell records and/or make a political point.

I don't know the reason for the apology. You might be right, or he might have meant for the lyrics to be a crazy exaggeration to make a political point, and hadn't thought he'd become so internationally famous where people would look into his past and take it literally, and where it would become an issue as it has.

But I do agree that it will cause Obama problems if he goes. Republicans keep beating this "Obama hates America" drum, and it plays into that. OTOH, he won't be up for re-election again, so I don't know how much damage it can do.

4. Your concern is duly noted

PSY is entitled to his opinion, regardless of who it is shared by.

I for one don't believe he was far off in his statement.

I've been gone for a while. What happened to the Unrec ability?

Entertainers have said much worse without nary a word said against them.

Even those who we disagree with.

9. This is not a free speech issue

I agree that it's much ado about nothing from the right, although I'm all for banning shitty music. But still, it's not about "free speech". Especially since I'm sure someone's paying him handily.

10. I live in the DC area

A lot of people wanted to go see his performance I'm sure. Why not? It's a free speech issue when people talk about banning his music. If you don't like his music don't go.

14. Me wanting to ban shitty music was a joke....

....but the point is that no one would stop him from singing on a street corner or saying whatever he wants elsewhere. He's getting paid money to appear at a concert as a performer. If the promoters of that concert decide to end their business deal with him for whatever reason, it is not suppressing free speech any more than it would be for promoters to cancel an appearance by Ted Nugent after what he said about Obama because they don't want him having their platform.

He's a huge superstar that will make them lots of money.

41. Really?

I don't know how these things run, but I'd assume they would do just as well with or without him. Most people turn up for these yearly events because it's exactly that....an event, for charity, no matter who is performing. Had this stuff about whatever he said gotten out sooner....the backlash of a boycott could have cost them.

Looking at the list of people that were there, I guess he was the biggest "star"....if you consider Diana Ross no longer a big star. I assumed this concert was one of those huge Kennedy Center affairs with Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Maroon Five, etc. etc. but I guess it wasn't.

As far as his being a "huge superstar"? Well, I guess Lou Bega and the Spice Girls had their moments too....

16. You're conflating issues

I'm telling you he's getting paid for this concert, hence why he's pulling a mea culpa, and hence why the promoter has every right to pull the plug if they wish.

I have no idea what he got for his original statement....although I assume if it was on an album, he had a contract, no?

8. I guess I don't understand what kind of mistake the president is making.

Psy is an entertainer. He made some political statements years ago. Lots of people have made political statements over the years. Otherwise he is irrelevant.

26. I doubt it

Unlike wingnuts on the right who would listen to a guy farting into a coffee can if that guy said something anti-Obama, I don't think the small handful of people who might agree with this dude are gonna line up for his goofy crap as a show of support.

29. Except that...

as you can see in this thread, showing support doesnt necessarily = agree. And considering that his "goofy crap" is the most watched you tube video of all time, I'd tend to think that support is not something he'll be lacking.

If you've ever watched the movie "Idiocracy", it signals to me being the most watched video on You Tube ever nowadays is nothing to brag about. I'm sure "Ow, My Balls!" will soon overtake it.

PSY got a music degree in Boston. He stated he wouldn't have made it without America. He was just angry at the time on certain americans, not the nation. Get it right.

30. All of Korea was angry at the time: two 14-year Korean girls killed by US Army

when an armored vehicle ran them over during training maneuvers. And then they were acquitted of negligent homicide.

This "Yanju highway incident" was probably an accident, but surely many of you here remember the great outpouring of grief and anger over this incident.

21. Aren't you on the wrong website?

People here tend to believe that we have a right to say what we want to say and sometimes actually have a good reason to say what we want to say and when we get it wrong, an apology is accepted.

I'd rather include than exclude, thank you.

23. I think we're past the point where we need to see everything through a political lens.

That's not saying we should forget that it is, after all, politics. But I don't hear any conservatives raising an uproar over this so I don't think we should, either.

Regardless of your feelings about PSY, it was good for the president to support an institution that provides for children in great need. My kids have both been patients at Children's, and the hospital is deserving of all the support it can get.

39. Mitt Romney can trash the American people and come within 5% of being President,

an entertainer can't have an opinion about some reprehensible actions by our military? Obviously his remarks weren't "elegantly stated" as Mitt Romney would say, but he has a point. With that said, he really should have left the wives and daughters out of it, that was unnecessary. But just look at what things American entertainers say and don't lose publicity for.
