2. As I close in on the 50 year mark with Type 1 diabetes

it will be interesting, to say the least, what the reaction will be of Pharma if and when a proven cure is announced. If it does not include a lifelong dependency on anti-rejection or other maintenance meds, I'll be greatly surprised. This is one cash cow they are not going to be eager to surrender without a fight.

6. Have you taken the time to investigate the "cure?"

You can do it. There is a DVD starring Dr. Gabriel Cousens and he demonstrates how even those who take insulin shots can be healed from it. I cannot remember the name but I think it had 30-day in the title. You could probably get it from a local library. It involves eats raw vegan foods.

7. No cure for Type 1

If he has seen reversals for Type 2 patients from a dietary regimen, that's great. Some will eventually wind up on insulin if control of the disease slips away. I have heard (though not verified) that a reversal of Type 2 may occur using strict dietary control. For type 1, however, I'm doing as best as can be done - keeping my glucose levels as close to a non-diabetic level as possible. There is no cure as of yet, short of pancreas transplant and a lifetime of anti-rejection drugs, but there has been a lot of encouraging news lately from stem cell researchers.

10. it's true that it's possible for some "type 2" diabetics to control their blood sugar through diet,

weight loss, & exercise -- & get off DM drugs.

3. My God, if they're not the most corrupt industry we have, they've gotta be like #2

They not only "maintain" diseases but seem to manufacture conditions that ostensibly warrant more medication, and then on top of it they lobby Congress for patent rights to charge through the roof for it. Sickening.

4. I've been saying this for years.

The pharmaceutical industry does not want to cure ANYTHING. They want everything, from toenail fungus to indigestion to the common cold to cancer, to be chronic. No cure, evah. And this applies to OTC, as well as Rx drugs. Take a stroll down any 'drug' aisle in the grocery store. There's more and more and more stuff all the time. This is why I've stopped charitable contributions to any 'search for the cure' organizations. That goes from Komen to AHA and ADA. If I can, I'll contribute to health organizations who help folks get to their doctor's appointment or to buy a wig or prosthesis, but cure? Nope.

11. Silly response.

I never said they didn't work. Some do, some don't. They will not CURE, though. Use the drugs, expect relief even, but don't ever expect a cure. For anything.

5. More broadly, the medical industry is in the business of selling medical services

It is not just limited to pharmaceuticals. All parts of the medical industry have a financial incentive to sell patients more medical services.
