Did all of the companies announce layoffs just since Wednesday of this past week?
I see on this website a long list of companies laying off employees - of course this is all being said it's because of Obama being re-elected. Maybe the threat these companies issued in the weeks preceding the election
If they all did this just in the past 3 days, it seems like something that was planned, you don't just figure out and do a downsizing in 3 days. Additionally, if this all came down in one fell swoop over 3 days - sounds like a colluded effort. Like there was some conspiring of corporations to make some kind of statement to the country if Obama was re-elected and the people of this country should heed their warning next election. I tell ya, these corporations, rich people and the money and power hungry in this country are one sadistic, fucked up bunch. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/how-many-businesses-have-announced-closings-or-lay-offs-since-obama-won-a-second-term/

3. That's why I asked here - I am not familiar with that website so didn't know how reliable it is
|
I did hear something in passing on tv today, MSNBC I believe. But I was doing something and didn't listen. Then I just saw this on FB and wanted to see if any of this was legitimate and what people were hearing.

4. So what are you hearing about it?
|
Are they blaming it on the election of President Obama or Obamacare or the possibility of their taxes increase? Why all of these companies all of a sudden after the election conveniently lay off employees? Sure seems suspicious to me.
Either they had this planned but used the election as an excuse and get a bonus by-product of riling up the rethugs and show that employees should vote as they are told or suffer the consequences. |

8. Not Everywhere
|
I live in Alabama and was called to a room with 27 other employees and was on my way home 30 minutes later, the same thing happened at the other 15 locations of our company. The company operates in right to work states only! All we were given was a small separation package, pay for the rest of the day and the promise to not contest our filing for unemployment but of course we had to sign an agreement not to sue, not to speak disparaging about the company and to offer assistance by phone if questions about our old jobs came up during the "transition".

9. The problem with the WARN is
|
it has no teeth. Sure, it's required to file 90 days in advance, but States have no one and nothing to enforce the law. Basically, filing a WARN is an option that responsible employers adhere to. The rest know there are no consequences.

10. Well, I am shocked that the RW is not happy about this, I just don't get it....
|
Companies are saving money by laying off people, which means that people who don't work there and are investing are getting more money....
And where were these people with these lists from 2002-2008? Is there a list of companies that are hiring (other than monster/craiglist/news paper)? They are putting insulation in their bubble to cover the windows so they don't have to see out of it. |

12. Yup.

There's been roughly the same frequency of lay-offs every week for the past many years, the Freepers only want to draw attention to last weeks reports for political brownie points. This economy is still creating jobs, I expect the official unemployment rate won't be much changed once next month rolls around.
