Ah finally, CNN is covering the FACT that Mitt Romney is Mexican-American

Last edited Fri Jan 13, 2012, 04:59 PM - Edit history (2)

I've been wondering when the media was going to start talking about the fact that Mitt's father was born in Mexico.

I few minutes ago I was watching the rerun of Erin Burnett on CNN.

They are comparing Mitt Romney with Bill Richardson as far as them both being Mexican-American.
Btw, Richardson's father was born in Nicaragua and his mother was the Mexican daughter of a Spanish father from Villaviciosa, Asturias, Spain and a Mexican mother.

Now 'maybe' the GOPers will stop talking about Obama's father being born in Kenya and questioning Obama's 'natural born' status - but probably not - and if not then hopefully Mitt's 'natural born' status will get some media attention too

---

Right now there are currently 6 ballot challenges against President Obama (4 in Georgia, 2 in Texas), the complaints filed are basically saying that since Obama's father was born in Kenya and not a US citizen that Barack Obama is not a 'natural born citizen'. There was one other challenge filed and it was dismissed and now in the Appeals Court.

There's a LIST of them on this PDF link: PDF: http://tesibria.typepad.com/whats_your_evidence/BIRTHER%20CASE%20LIST.pdf

On the link above TONS of birther court cases are listed on the first 20 pages,
and then starting on page 21 there's a separate list of 2012 ballot challenges.

EDITED TO ADD CNN ARTICLE BELOW:
Could Mitt Romney be America's first Hispanic president?

1. This is CNN's way of helping Romney get the Latino vote

because the GOP have an abysmal record when it comes to treating Latinos with respect. Being the good GOP shills CNN has become, they're trying to regain some of those angry Latinos to vote for their guy against President Obama. Of course, Latinos need to understand Romney feels as Latino as David Duke. With Dubya, at least, he was able to make it look sincere.

There are a lot of southern conservatives who will stay home because they hate Romney. They hate Obama more, but they cannot vote for Mittens, either.

50. I agree that won't work - and I agree that this is CNN trying to make Romney "more diverse"

but no Hispanic will think that the Romney ancestors having been American ex=pats in Mexico makes them Hispanic.

Did African Americans consider Teresa Heinz Kerry an African American? There was actually more justification for that as she did grow up in Africa. However, I think the fact that she protested apartheid in South Africa as a college student had more appeal than just being born there. She was born in Mozambique and became an American citizen after she married John Heinz. Kerry, like all Democrats, got the lion's share of black votes, but that was due to his record.

7. Has nothing to do with xenophobia. It has to do with fighting back on the Obama challenges

If one of the nutty judges rules against Obama on one of those ballot challenges then our side should file on Romney!

And it also highlights Romney's hypocrisy regarding immigration policy.

14. So, you think that the dems shouldn't fight back against the GOPers that are questioning

Obama's 'natural born' status - this is a different issue than where Obama was born.

This has to do with the citizenship of the 'parents'.

In my opinion, the ISSUE of where the parents where born should have NOTHING to do with the 'natural born status' of a presidential candidate that was born in the USA.

Clearly, both Obama and Romney are full citizens of the United States no matter where there father's are born.

That is the high road.

42. Born in the USA. All others are naturilized

The Naturalization Act can only grant citizenship. The Act of 1790, whether deliberate or by accident, tries to bestow natural born citizen. The Act of 1795 repeals the Act of 1790, and natural born has not been used since.

Repubs legal "scholars" trying to prove McCain natural born and Obama not. Mccain's status was questioned during Repub primaries.

The the citizenship of the 'parents' is what it being questioned in court in the ballot challenges.

Since the U.S. Constitution states 'natural born citizen' - that is what the GOPers are filing their complaint in regards to on Obama

The GOPers are saying that 'both' parents must be citizens.

In these two cases Obama's father wasn't and Mitt's father wasn't.

So, it seems like that should put a stop to the GOPer's b.s. (I hope)

There is no need to "retaliate" against ineffective and absurd actions.

Yes, his father was born there, but they were never actually citizens of Mexico. Willard's father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all denied Mexican citizenship due to Mexican statutes that denied citizenship to American settlers and their offspring.

There were three generations that lived in Mexico, but were never citizens of Mexico.

37. The real question is why wasn't George Romney's Mexican birth challenged when he ran for President?

George Romney, Willard's father, ran for President in 1968. While his non-US birth was mentioned, it was never a serious issue.

The Wikipedia article on George Romney is interesting - his political style reminds me a lot of his son! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Romney#1968_presidential_campaign

Best part: Governor Jim Rhodes of Ohio more memorably said, "Watching George Romney run for the presidency was like watching a duck try to make love to a football."
