My encounter with a Florida Romney-dick-head

We are traveling home from visiting our daughter in Florida when my wife suggest she wants to take some pecans home. The next sign I see is for one of the tourist trap for citrus and pecans. So I pull in and stop, we check the place out, sample some of the pralines and were greeted by the proprietor.

Now this asshole started the conversation by saying he was hoping for a landslide, I said many of us were, but it looks like things are going to be tighter than we would like. He then said Romney was going to be in Daytona day after tomorrow, to which said, I am sorry. He then revealed that he was full Romney, that brought some weird visions to my head. Again I said in a sarcastic tone, I am sorry.

In this process, my wife had picked out some packages of pecans and laid them on the counter. This guy was going full dialog about how Obama isn't doing anything for America. At that point, I said, we vote with our wallet as well as at the poll and said I don't think we can buy the nuts at this location, there are several other traps on up the road.

As we were leaving he said something about wanting to see Obama's handy work, to drive by the hotel across the street and see all the homeless. My response was that Romney wasn't going to do anything for those people because they are part of the 47% that he doesn't care about.

We got the nuts down the road for half the price.

This was at US 1 and I95 in Daytona Florida.

3. I never understand people like that

Why go on and on about politics while people are spending money in your establishment? Do they assume every white person they see will vote republican?

(if you are non-white, I take it all back)

4. I think they assume everyone thinks (or in this case doesn't) just like them

And while I am white, I wonder how he would treat non-whites who stopped in?

People like that bother me, I wonder about it all day long.

9. Yes, they DO think every white person will vote Republican. I get that all the time here in Richmond

VA. Only after I give them the evil eye do they understand they just blabbed to the WRONG person.

7. When I first encounter others, I don't start with politics

Never!

I don't assume that they think the same as I do. In reality, it does not matter but when they start with offering insults to the candidate I support out of the blue? I can't leave it alone.

I travel to all parts of this country, much of it in red states and seldom do I have anyone start in with politics. I guess though, when I do, it blows my mind that they don't understand or respect differing views.

8. yeah, they're out there...

I always keep a zinger ready just in case I encounter this type of jerk. Just one or two sound bites. Then leave. Never engage --just a one liner.

The 47% line you gave him

11. Another pug voting against his own best interest.

By running off over half of his customers as well as voting for rMoney.
No doubt he'll be hanging out with his buddies whining about how bad his sales volume is.
Proof that you can't cure stupid.

12. I completely agree about voting with your wallet as well as at the polling booth

I can't think of anything more stupid than for a business to talk politics... No matter what side you are on, half the nation is on the other side...Nothing like cutting off one's nose to spite their face..

13. You know, Biketoberfest is this weekend in Daytona...

And you would think a nitwit like that would know that his town and indeed the entire area is going to be filled with tourists of all stripes from all over.

What in the world would possess him to start a conversation with a customer - and a complete stranger as well, in such an asinine way?

14. I was thinking that as this moron continued to speak.

This place is nothing but a tourist spot, this guys entire business relies on tourist, why he started in, I have no idea. He obviously didn't look at the back of my car.

15. Well to be kind to the proprietor of the establishment

it IS silly season and the election is two weeks away.

People who otherwise would not do that shit... get very political this close to an election.

Well handled sir, well handled.

We also vote with our dollars. Of course the place where we left things in the counter, was flying a Blood Flag in the back, which was a tad jarring.
