"Close and confusing..."
"Some idiot's watching from the sidelines there, binoculars in hand..."
"Lovely Finnish lady--wouldn't mind finishing off with her!"

3. Ha!

I would have watched a lot of events if these had been the announcers.

8. You do know it's a joke, don't you?

Americans can make jokes too.

10. What's with the attitude?

Yeah, I kinda figured that a station wouldn't really be too likely to have commentators calling spectators idiots.

I happen to prefer the Irish sense of humor. Is that all right with you? FFS.

11. 'Attitude'? You seem to have the attitude

what with "WTF" and "FFS".

The thing is that jokes are available anywhere - any person from a country can make them. Actual commentary isn't - you get just one version. So a wish to live there looks like a reference to thinking it's actual commentary. And reply #7 in this thread seems to have thought it was real too.

12. "You do know it's a joke, don't you? Americans can make jokes too."

Interesting conversational style you have, if you don't perceive that as in any way confrontational.

Have a wonderful day.

9. It's a joke

though I would expect Ireland is a bit more relaxed about swearing on TV than the USA - pretty much the entire English-speaking world is.

13. Hey mike! Go cover the sailboat races

Jesus! I know fuck all about sailing, I'm sure to cock it up!

I got no one else, you'll have to cover it.

This was the conversation right before the announcer left for this coverage. Apparently he didn't know the clock was counting down to the start of the race.

I used to naviguess for a guy in races. He used to carry his insurance deductable in cash in his pocket when racing. We had some exciting starts and he had a reputation for being fearless during the starts. Once we came in to the starting line from the course side on starboard tack which gave us the right of way. Everyone had to miss us and we ducked behind the line and tacked back over just after the starting canon.

The start is much more exciting than the actual race.
