Are you having trouble with bad reception or is my poor reception due to the LDS/NPR station (the only station I can get up here on the mountain) just censoring the news they can allow their faithful to hear again?
It seems like they are interrupting the audio on purpose, this happens a lot when he s being broadcast.

and I did see Chait on that segment of Hayes' show last night. the democratic process has been co-opted over the past three decades (or longer) and anyone who can't see that by now has little interest in their responsibilities as a citizen.
I suspect that we will go into default and a couple - few things are bound to happen:
1) the country will then be in an emergency situation whereby the president might be able to make some immediate corrections that would take some time to reverse (for good or ill) but could alleviate the possibility of this sort of thing taking place again during his presidency, at the very least.
2) the rest of the world markets will either help us correct the situation (though I am not sure how that would work since I am not a finance specialist) OR they will hasten the end of our financial dominance by making sure we are no longer the bully on the bridge to national solvency and financial sovereignty for much of the other societies on the planet and a detriment to many... perhaps some much needed correction is needed since whenever we come careening to any scene of discord, our shadow government has preceded the public knowledge and does under the radar damage control to keep we the little people from understanding that we are the perps thus maintaining that national hubris that the uninformed* teabaggers wave with the flag wrapped around it.
3) should the second part of #2 above take place it could redirect the world economy away from petroleum/carbon based economy to something more in line with saving ourselves from our polluting selves... maybe. Perhaps nationalizing the assets on US soil from all those polluters who are receiving all those subsidies... if they heed all that $$ in taxpayer provided subsidies perhaps we the people should just take them over and put them to use for the good of the people (which could provide the opportunity to restructure our economy and resource use).
In addition, I suspect that the other nations are pretty sick and tired of us driving the ship that keeps crashing them into austerity mode for the benefit of the "monied" who are set on enslaving the majority of the world population for the benefit of the very few.
*by uninformed I mean that they are only informed by the emotive plea driven RW media that keeps them ignorant of what is really going on not only in their front yard but regarding what is taking place in their stead around the globe thus creating a lot of hatred aim at us that is only presented to us as "they hate us for our freedom" so we have to shed our blood kicking their asses because they know the truth.
Just going over some things that have crossed my mind this past week + and wondering what are viable options in the minds of our rulers these days. I would like this resolved as much as the next person but I also like to look for opportunities to make much needed changes in the way this country deals with problems that include the far overdue restructuring many f us have been lobbying for but go unheard due to being shouted down by the oligarchy.
And I want to be able to stop clenching my teeth 24/7 before I ruin all that major dental work I just had done for a small fortune!
Edited to clarify in point #2 - "...OR they will hasten the end of our...."

Some may be aware of the logistics involved in where you enter and stay when visiting remote places like Yellowstone NP. Some tourists had the unfortunate experience of waking up in an unpleasant situation Monday as the discovered the Park was closed and they were unable to leave Cooke City by way of the park road (a potion which stays open year round for the residents of Cooke City because the only other way to anywhere is over a pass that doesn't stay open for travel in winter) because not only was the park closed, Chief Joseph Pass had received several feet of snow over the week-end.
Thanks, Tea Party!

is a fitting descriptive term in this instance. It is intentional and they have said so themselves on recorded media after all. They campaigned on this intention and basically because they are incensed that someone of color has been elected, twice, and actually brought to law policies that benefit the common-folk after being battered by corporate thugs and drug through two wars they objected to (well, one for certain).
I was reading a number of the comments within the previous OP from a couple years ago, very interesting indeed. It's so refreshing to see thoughtful discussion without all the character attacks we see of late.
One of the comments that really caught my attention ended with this:
In a larger sense, the GOP is committing treason and terrorism. But they are doing it at the behest of the corporations that have been committing it both here and around the world for years. And they are not going to allow their lackeys to be punished, unless they see some serious opposition, that will cost them.
As a verbal weapon, calling the GOP traitors can't be just about the budget and its partner the debt ceiling. You have to go after the entire cabal. Henry Wallace defined fascism and how it would come about in the USA. We are dealing with fascists, plain and simple. They don't take no for an answer. Here is what they did, how they did it, as predicted years ago:
This is what we are dealing with. And we don't know what to do. We are no longer permitted in political dialogue to even call them what they clearly are, as Wallace defined it. Our Founding Fathers and Abe Lincoln warned us.
As a rallying cry, call them traitors. But widen the definition of who they are. Legally, they aren't, because they are operating above our government, IMHO.
And was in response to a comment you had made about this OP's subject of focus. It is still true now and much more obvious. There has to be some method of recourse for citizens to take when a faction conspires to do harm to the government from within... but I suspect it's buried in one of Jefferson's Federalist Papers and I don't know which one at the moment. That might take a few days to ferret out along with cross referencing in the Constitution and subsequent ConLaw.
Apparently we will ultimately have to find a way to cost them in such a way that we can overcome and reverse the damage done by their faction, especially if we can't litigate their demise in power.
Something for me to do tomorrow since I can't be hired for work in the public sector until this storm blows over, there's certainly no work to be had in the tourist town near the NP I live next to while it's closed down. It will be like reviewing some of my college courses!

please view this piece presented by Rachel Maddow on 9/30 which has numerous instances on recorded media indicating the intent of these individuals to shut down the government...
and EarlG posted this lovely collage the other day too with quotes (though there are no dates included as to when these words were spoken)

this eloquent and well structured presentation!
I do think that a charge of malfeasance is appropriate but I can't help but think there are additional legal terms that would help frame the argument.
Last night I heard a Congressional entity call them "insurrectionists" and I thought that was an interesting term. So I looked up the Insurrection Act and found that it could, in part, be applicable but entails the use of the military on US soil during a natural disaster, public unrest or something similar by decree of the President. After some consideration I thought that would also be problematic.
I looked up the parameters within which the president could declare a national emergency and found that we are already in a declared national emergency that has been carried over since the previous administration. In the pile of text which I read about that it appears that such a declaration (they must be specific in identification of the national threat so there can be several simultaneous declarations in effect at one time) could be implemented by the President should the Tea Party faction also hold the debt ceiling issue hostage as well since they would be bringing intentional harm to the well being of the nation... in this case it would be economically, which is a valid condition for such a declaration.
A national emergency is an interesting condition to impose (many were really unhappy when GWB attempted to impose one after 9/11 but did not actually declare it in his language at the time, he eluded to one but never formally declared one and we all sort of pretended that he had) but probably the least difficult condition to implement.
Given that the TPs have in fact declared on recorded media that they had intended to shut down the government since before the 2010 election and to present time, they are guilty of collusion with intent to do harm to the economic well being of the nation as well as committing malfeasance by intending to do so while taking an oath of office whereby they swore to protect the Constitution of the government they have intended to destroy all along.
These are serious charges and I, for one, am tired of these individuals holding office and being funded not only the taxpayers whom the intend to harm but also benefactors who have purchased their seats in office for the specific purpose of harming the nation, its people and their government via insurrectionist maneuvers and doing so with impunity. This must end and immediately.
We the People are entitled to immediate recourse through legal means in order to preserve our government, our economic well being and the well being of this nation as a whole. These individuals should be removed from office and banished from holding office in any capacity for life.
I invite any legal professionals and academics to help us figure out which is the proper procedure for citizens to take action against the domestic enemies within our government. As Sam has mentioned above, waiting for recourse at the ballot station may be too late.

FYI (merely for those who might be interested)
The brothers' funded AFP (CA) branch is holding a misinformation conference in Salt Lake City, UT next month to promote the gutting of the Endangered Species Act and other environmental regulation so they can more easily destroy and/or privatize our public lands with impunity and for their profit.
They are attacking from every angle, as evidenced in their "issues" pages at the link. They will not stop until they own it all, apparently... or unless we find a way to stop them. Consider that they have no respect to the "commons" that belong to all citizens and they intend to foist their will upon us by "owning" our alleged representatives. The Endangered Species Act requires investigation into how development projects will impact wildlife (plants and animals). The issue with wolves is meant to fire up the wolf-hating, government-hating rednecks to help fire up their base of uninformed individuals.
Don't know what the answers are but WE need to change this program that is set to take even more from us under our noses and behind closed doors.

In the "debate" which seems more like a ram-rod event and all discussion sounds more like, "We're doing this and all you can do is watch"... I found this 17:34 minute opening segment of Chis Hayes' "All In" 9/3/13 show informative at two points in the segment.
1) Early in the segment is a clip of Kerry's testimony at the hearing held yesterday where he points out that this particular resolution he's selling at the moment doesn't include "boots on the ground" right now... as in that comes later and we'll deal with that part after we make the mess we're proposing right now.
2) the last three and a half minutes of this segment is a professor Bassam Haddad who succinctly points out (before he's cut off) that there is a political solution to this issue (but nobody wants to go there) and that a military action now ensures that there will be no political option thereafter for reasons he also points to.
So the take home message to this whole BS posturing is that dealing with this as a political argument is too hard so let's just start bombing so we won't have to deal with "talking" this out with the primary actors and allies of both sides of the argument.

SAN DIEGO — The 16-year-old California girl kidnapped by a close family friend suspected of killing her mother and 8-year-old brother says he threatened to kill her if she tried to escape and got what he deserved when he died in a shootout with authorities in the Idaho wilderness.
Hannah Anderson went online barely 48 hours after her rescue Saturday and started fielding hundreds of questions through a social media site. Many were typical teenage fare – she likes singer Justin Bieber and her favorite color is pink – but she also answered queries about how she was kidnapped, how she survived captivity and how she is dealing with the deaths of her mother and brother.

I wasn't sure where to put this but it is an important yet brief admission that should go viral, especially for those who wear uniforms or participate in national security actions... and I thought it should be a topic for discussion on a broad spectrum. I personally have bee waiting for someone to come out and do this - for a very long time - and gain some momentum among the rest of the "troops". I do hope this gets some serious coverage.
I Hereby Resign in Protest Effective Immediately
by Brandon Toy
I have served the post-911 Military Industrial complex for 10 years, first as a soldier in Baghdad, and now as a defense contractor.
I have always believed that if every foot soldier threw down his rifle war would end. I hereby throw mine down.At the time of my enlistment, I believed in the cause. I was ignorant, naïve, and misled. The narrative, professed by the state, and echoed by the mainstream press, has proven false and criminal. We have become what I thought we were fighting against.
Some will say that I am being irresponsible, impractical, and irrational. Others will insist that I am crazy. I have come to believe that the true insanity is doing nothing. As long as we sit in comfort, turning a blind eye to the injustices of the world, nothing will change. It is even worse to play an active part, protesting all along that I am not the true criminal.
I was only a foot soldier, and am now a low level clerk. However, I have always believed that if every foot soldier threw down his rifle war would end. I hereby throw mine down.
