Top Conservative Publication: Shooting Occurred Because Women Ran The School

Victoria Soto, 27-year-old teacher killed while protecting her students.

If there were fewer women and more “male aggression” in Sandy Hook Elementary School, the massacre there never would have taken place, according to a contribution to a leading conservative magazine.

National Review, whose in-house editorial suggested Newtown was the price of the Second Amendment, published a piece on Wednesday from anti-feminist Charlotte Allen suggesting the reason the shooter was able to kill so many students was because Newtown was a “feminized setting:”

There was not a single adult male on the school premises when the shooting occurred. In this school of 450 students, a sizeable number of whom were undoubtedly 11- and 12-year-old boys (it was a K–6 school), all the personnel — the teachers, the principal, the assistant principal, the school psychologist, the “reading specialist” — were female. There didn’t even seem to be a male janitor to heave his bucket at Adam Lanza’s knees. Women and small children are sitting ducks for mass-murderers. The principal, Dawn Hochsprung, seemed to have performed bravely. According to reports, she activated the school’s public-address system and also lunged at Lanza, before he shot her to death. Some of the teachers managed to save all or some of their charges by rushing them into closets or bathrooms. But in general, a feminized setting is a setting in which helpless passivity is the norm. Male aggression can be a good thing, as in protecting the weak — but it has been forced out of the culture of elementary schools and the education schools that train their personnel. Think of what Sandy Hook might have been like if a couple of male teachers who had played high-school football, or even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys, had converged on Lanza.

Anonymous Targets Westboro Baptist Church After Newtown Vigil Protest Threat (Video)

Source: huffpo

Members of the hacktivist group Anonymous have targeted the Westboro Baptist Church after the hate-mongering, quasi-religious group announced plans to protest a Sunday night vigil in remembrance of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, 20 of whom were just 6 and 7 years old.

On Saturday, Westboro Baptist Church spokesperson Shirley Phelps-Roper tweeted that the group would be protesting the vigil in Newtown, Conn., to "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."

Anonymous apparently vowed retaliation as part of #OpWestBor in a video posted to Vimeo under the handle KY Anonymous. "We will not allow you to corrupt the minds of America with your seeds of hatred," says the voice-over in the video. "We will not allow you to inspire aggression to the social factions which you deem inferior. We will render you obsolete. We will destroy you. We are coming."

On Sunday, Anonymous posted to Pastebin a list of data that it claimed belonged to Westboro members. The data included names, street addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, according to CNET.

The move was announced on @YourAnonNews, the collective's main mouthpiece on Twitter.

BREAKING: Michigan Gov. Snyder To Veto Bill Allowing Guns In Schools

Source: think progress

ne day before the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, the Michigan Legislature passed a bill to specifically allow guns into schools and other “gun-free zones.” This bill joined a so-called “right-to-work” law and an extreme abortion ban, the GOP-controlled legislature rammed through during its lame duck session.

Following the mass-shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, however, Gov. Rick Snyder (R-MI) promised to give the guns bill “extra consideration.” According to the Detroit News, Snyder has now decided to veto the legislation.

Gov. Rick Snyder plans to veto legislation allowing concealed weapons in public schools, according to bill sponsor Sen. Mike Green, R-Mayville.
The bill allowing highly trained gun owners to carry concealed weapons inside public schools was delivered to Snyder’s desk Tuesday.
“He’s not going to sign it,” Green told The Detroit News.

The Connecticut tragedy has already forced many strident gun supporters to re-examine their beliefs. Most notably, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who once cut an ad featuring himself literally shooting a piece of legislation, is now leading the push for gun control on Capitol Hill in Sandy Hook’s wake.

Joe Scarborough To GOP: If We Have To Defend Being ‘Party Of Glocks…We Will Lose’

link

Amid a discussion about gun control and culture, Joe Scarborough ventured to address the choice the GOP now faces. Two years from now, he said, does the Republican Party want to be known as the party of Glocks and Bushmasters — or the party of balanced budgets and smaller government?

If it’s the former, he said, “we will lose.”

POLITICO’s Jim Vandehei pointed to their story about the GOP’s demographic challenges. “When it comes to the GOP putting people in positions of power to actually change things, it’s still raining men,” the story reads. “the same older, white, straight ones that got the party into this jam in the first place.”

“There’s a lot of rethinking going on,” Vandehei said. Scarborough said Republicans have to figure out what kind of party they want to be seen as two or four years from now.

“Do they want to be seen…as the party of Glocks? The party of Bushmasters? The party of combat-styled, military weapons? Rapid-fire magazine clips?” Scarborough asked. “If they want to go around and debate that for the next four years, good luck.”

He continued to say that he’d prefer his party to stand for less taxes, smaller government, balanced budgets, and a restrained foreign policy. On those issues, “we’ll win.” But “if we’re having to defend” Glocks and Bushmasters, he said, “we will lose. We will lose.”

Private Equity Firm To Sell Sandy Hook Gunmaker

Cerberus Capital Management, one of the world's largest investment funds and a dominant player in the American gun industry, is getting out of the business, it said Tuesday morning, citing the horror of the shooting — not the commercial risk or negative attention — as the decisive factor in its decision.

Here's the company's full statement (at link):

We were shocked and deeply saddened by the events that took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT on December 14, 2012. We cannot comprehend the losses suffered by the families and friends of those killed by the unthinkable crimes committed that day. No words or actions can lessen the enormity of this event or make a dent in the pain that was inflicted on so many.

In 2006 affiliates of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. made a financial investment in Freedom Group. Freedom Group does not sell weapons or ammunition directly to consumers, through gun shows or otherwise. Sales are made only to federally licensed firearms dealers and distributors in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. We do not believe that Freedom Group or any single company or individual can prevent senseless violence or the illegal use or procurement of firearms and ammunition.

It is apparent that the Sandy Hook tragedy was a watershed event that has raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level. The debate essentially focuses on the balance between public safety and the scope of the Constitutional rights under the Second Amendment. As a Firm, we are investors, not statesmen or policy makers. Our role is to make investments on behalf of our clients who are comprised of the pension plans of firemen, teachers, policemen and other municipal workers and unions, endowments, and other institutions and individuals. It is not our role to take positions, or attempt to shape or influence the gun control policy debate. That is the job of our federal and state legislators.

White House Gun Control Petition Becomes Site's Most Popular Ever

A pro-gun control petition submitted on Friday through the White House's "We the People" platform has quickly emerged as the most popular cause ever championed on the website.

User David G. launched the effort hours after a shooter entered Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. and gunned down 26 people, including 20 young children. It quickly surged past the 25,000 signatures needed to warrant a White House reaction and has since secured more than 150,000 supporters. The petition, one of a number of similar efforts calling for action on gun control, calls for President Barack Obama's administration to "immediately address the issue of gun control through the introduction of legislation in Congress."

As National Journal reports, the gun control petition overtook a submission by a Texas resident last month calling for Obama to grant his state the right to secede in the wake of the president's reelection. That effort currently has 120,000 signatures attached to it.

Neither Obama nor his administration have announced any concrete steps on the issue of gun control, but the president addressed the nation twice since the Newtown shooting, calling for meaningful action to prevent future tragedies of this nature. On Monday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters that gun control was "part of" the equation to confronting the trend of mass shootings, but "far from all of it."

Private Equity Firm 'Dominant Player' Announces they are Getting out of Gun Biz

Kind of a weasel move on their part, washing their hands, or at least trying to.... but the big deal here is the money is moving away, which is a very good sign.

Oh, Holy Shit! South Carolina’s new senator once backed aborted fetus monument...

This Guy is Fucking Nuts!! Where do they get these people?

link

Pro-life groups couldn’t be happier with South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) for appointing a man to the U.S. Senate who supported erecting a monument for aborted fetuses in the state’s capitol.

Pro-life groups on Monday cheered the appointment of Rep. Tim Scott (R-SC) to replace retiring South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint (R), noting Scott had a 100 percent pro-life voting record with the National Right to Life Committee.

“At a point where our nation is hungry for leadership, Congressman Scott has demonstrated compassion and clarity on the abortion issue, never backing down when asked the tough questions,” Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said. “He has made it clear that defending the most vulnerable is an indispensible first principle in his own political philosophy.”

Scott, an evangelical Christian, has long been an opponent of abortion. While serving as a South Carolina state representative, he co-sponsored legislation in 2009 to create a “monument on the statehouse grounds to remember all the aborted babies in” the state.
