Boy killed by carbon monoxide while trying to keep warm

Source: us news

Among the deaths blamed on the gusting winter storm that buried parts of the Northeast under 3 feet of snow was an 11-year-old boy in Boston who was overcome by carbon monoxide while keeping warm in the car.

The boy had been helping his father shovel out the car and got cold, NBC affiliate WHDH of Boston reported. The father started the engine, and the boy got inside, a Boston fire official told the station. But the car’s exhaust pipe was covered by a nearly 4-foot tall snowbank.

“The car filled up with the carbon monoxide gases that weren’t escaping through the exhaust system, and the boy was overcome,” a fire official told WHDH.

The boy's father went into respiratory arrest.

“The father started screaming, ‘He’s not breathing, he’s not breathing,’” a neighbor told WHDH. “So the father brings the little boy into my hallway and lays him on the ground and then he comes back out and collapses.”

Fire officials arrived on the scene to find neighbors performing CPR on the boy. Father and son were transported to the Boston Medical Center, where the boy died. His father was undergoing treatment, WHDH reported.

Fox cuts ties to commentator Dick Morris

Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — Political commentator Dick Morris' prediction of a huge landslide for Mitt Romney didn't pan out. And now he's lost his job at Fox News Channel.

Network spokeswoman Dana Klinghoffer said Tuesday that Fox wasn't renewing its contract with Morris, who was steadfast throughout the campaign in his prediction of a big Romney win over President Barack Obama. He has made few appearances on Fox since the election.

Morris had also been criticized for accepting paid advertisements on his website from candidates that he discussed on the air at Fox.

‘Did You Say ‘F**k Me?’ Judge Sentences Florida Teen To 30 Days In Jail For Cursing At Him

18-year-old Penelope Soto taught an important lesson to millions of young Americans when she was called before a Florida judge yesterday on a drug possession charge. Soto laughed when the judge asked if she had consumed any drugs in the last 24 hours and then said “adios” after he set her bail at $5,000. She stopped laughing when he asked her to return and raised the bond to $10,000.

“Are you serious?” Soto asked. The judge replied, “I am serious. Adios.”

At that point, Soto apparently gave the judge the finger and shouted an expletive at him. He then asked Soto point blank, “Did you say ‘fuck me’?” When she said she did, he found her in criminal contempt of court and sentenced her to 30 days in a county jail.

Donald Trump sues Bill Maher

Source: Washington Post

Publicity stunts for Donald Trump are nothing new — but this one is just weird. Trump says he’s suing Bill Maher, claiming the acerbic comic failed to make good on a public bet. Last month, Maher told Jay Leno he’d give $5 million to Trump’s charity of choice if the businessman could prove he’s not “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump sent his birth certificate listing Fred Trump as his father — and now wants Maher to pay up. “He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” Monday. “Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity.” The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday

President Claims Shooting as a Hobby, and the White House Offers Proof (releases photo)

Source: ny times

WASHINGTON — When President Obama mentioned last week that he had picked up a new hobby — skeet shooting at Camp David — it was a surprising disclosure by a president whose main identification with guns these days is his effort to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.

To some, Mr. Obama’s newfound enthusiasm for shooting clay pigeons — he said in an interview that he did it “all the time” at his retreat in the Maryland mountains — also seemed a bit suspicious.

So on Saturday, the White House tried to silence the skeptics by releasing a photo of Mr. Obama shooting on the range at Camp David in August. In the photo, the president, wearing protective glasses and ear-muffs, is squinting down the barrel of a gun, moments after pulling the trigger. Smoke shoots out of the front of the gun.

The White House said the photo was taken on Aug. 4, which was Mr. Obama’s 51st birthday. But it offered no further details on whether his target practice was a regular hobby or a one-time event.

The Hill: Clinton backers launch ‘Ready for Hillary’ super-PAC in hopes of 2016 campaign

A group of Hillary Clinton supporters is launching a campaign to draft her to run for president — the first major push from an outside group for her to run.

The group, “Ready for Hillary,” filed as a super-PAC with the Federal Election Commission late last week and plans to roll out a website in the coming weeks.

It has already been active online, with nearly 50,000 Twitter followers and almost 30,000 people following the group on Facebook.

The effort is being spearheaded by Allida Black and Judy Beck, two longtime Clinton supporters who were on Clinton’s Virginia Women’s Steering Committee in 2008 and helped her raise more than $100,000.

The two also were behind Women Count, a political action committee that ran ads pushing back against calls for Clinton to drop out early from the 2008 presidential race.

A blinded fox cub left for dead by a speeding car has been helped back to health by his unusual pals

Love this pic and story... just had to share with my DU friends

found on fb: link

A blinded fox cub left for dead by a speeding car has been helped back to health by his unusual pals - a group of orphaned kittens.

The injured animal was found with severe head injuries by the side of a dual carriageway after he was hit by a car. These kittens helped nurse this injured cub back to health. While still unconscious, the fox was put into a cage with three orphaned kittens which were found in a box . Amazingly, the cats immediately began to groom the fox and snuggled up to him as he slowly came out of the coma. The cub, which was not even expected to survive the ordeal, then began to regain his sight and health after just five days. Now the fox has made a full recovery and formed an incredible bond with the feline friends. 'It was very sweet, the cats needed something to snuggle up to and they loved his fur. One of the owners of the rescue centre said 'One of them used to lick him all the time as he slowly came out of his coma. 'Once awake the four of them became best friends and the kittens acted like a guiding light to the fox as he regained his sight.' 'I think they all helped save each other's lives.' ♥

The cub was eventually sent to Fox Protect in Tunbridge Wells to complete his rehabilitation before he was released back into the wild and the kittens found a home. ♥
