I'll remember Senator Arlen Spector helping to pass the ACA &. I will always remember one more special time;

About a year ago he went to a comedy club in PA on "open mike night". No pun intended here but he went on stage & killed! He was so funny! Lawrence O'Donnell read about it online and had the reporter that happened to be there on TLW. He (Sen. Spector) just did what anyone does at an open mike night. He gave his first name & waited his turn. (did stand-up myself once upon a time) His jokes were original and his timing was on the money. I was blown away.

So dear Arlen, rest in peace & if you see Teddy or the likes of Groucho or Henny, say hi for us.

from us to your family.

This is the first Presidential debate moderated by a woman.

Women have moderated VP debates but Tues. will be a first.

This all came about due to a group of H.S. students (girls of course) from New Jersey, who didn't propose any specific woman...just A WOMAN. Not sure if it was a public or private school, but I saw them on Gov. Granholm's show I think. The 4 or 5 young women were asked if any of them had a political party preference & they said they did not. They launched this campaign specifically to have a woman host/moderate one or more of the Presidential debates. They had a petition, a Facebook page, twitter & used social media to make this large enough for the main stream media to take notice. It was only when I heard the announcement of Ms. Crowley that I realized how grassroots social media & committed citizens can help us move forward as a country. Keep in mind, the young women were not necessarily able to vote yet. They just wanted to see one of the 51%, moderate a Presidential debate.

They had one agenda and it was successfully completed. They were neither bipartisan, nor were they partisan.

They were totally above partisanship! A lesson to us all.

It is true. Greed IS NOT GOOD!

There are threads from yesterday (Saturday) on DU, & photos that shows the plant's main building with the Chinese flag waving in front of it. I believe I also read a post & saw a video of the workers where they talked about training their Chinese replacement workers. There was a gentleman on that video that stated he saw the Chinese flag raised & after the Chinese workers left to go back to China, seeing the stars & stripes going back up the flagpole. Check thread that says this "might be Mitt's undoing.

The stories are heartbreaking & real as real gets. The working conditions in China are horrible & one post told of 7 day work weeks, 12 hr shifts, & 99 cents per hour. The workers live on site in rooms for 3 or 4 per room.

I read that there is an employee that has been there 35 or so years & was about to retire. Now, Bain moved all jobs to China she will not get the retirement she has earned. Instead they are ONLY giving her 26 weeks severance pay. I do not know how to paste or use links or I'd post it here for you to see that horrid & punch you in the gut video to which I felt profound sadness. I can only assume she probably lost her health care since only the 26 weeks pay was mentioned.

How low can they go? Mitt knows & couldn't care less!

(This post is from my memory, so make sure my facts are indeed accurately quoted. It really tore me up inside.)

That does it, I'm moving to Ohio! (anecdotal story in post)

WOW! Wish I could go to any political rally like this. California is a gimme, so the only rally that come anywhere near me is too pricey. I've seen "The Boss" 3 or 4 times, but President Clinton too? That will be such a great event for sure!!!!!!

Memory of POTUS' past that you'll love !

When I was 7, in 1963, my Daddy took us to see President Kennedy in San Diego. He (my dad) had a friend who owned an auto muffler shop facing El Cajon Blvd. which was to be the route for JFK's motorcade. All of "us kids" got into the back of this wood framed bed type apple cider house style truck & the vehicle was lifted up high above the crowd lined street.

The President of the United States went slowly down the street as the crowds on both sides of the street cheered...We were so high up we saw the convertible (a Lincoln I think) and President John Fitzgerald Kennedy waved to ME! It was so much fun & it was my first introduction to politics.

My parents were democrats, but I didn't know that then. What I did know is that 1963 was the last year he was alive, & I was fortunate to have my first presidential or even political memory be this one.

My father used to explain the difference between republicans & democrats when I got a little older by saying this..."Democrats vote with everyone in mind. Republicans vote with themselves in mind."

Thank you DU for being here. I discovered y'all this past summer & after reading so much online, DU was & is a breath of fresh air. Once I began my Bruce,Bill, & OHio post this 49 year old memory popped into my head & for the 1st time in a while now, I knew y'all would appreciate the story.

Have a Grrrreat weekend & enjoy the "Biden afterglow!"

Replace the word "Government" and it substitute... three words..."WE THE PEOPLE"!

You are so right n/t. The video really spells it out

Being a native Californian, this hurts me & those of us that have been lucky enough to visit our national treasures. My family vacation memories growing up as well a those still to come are driving distance for a family, even on a budget. My Dad (rip Papa) found that once you hit age 65, you can get a senior pass that covers entrance fees in all 50 states. I remember how stoked he was when he read this in his AAA tour book. My folks took a cross country driving trip & had a ball! It was a while ago, but I believe that policy is still in place.

As far as gov vs people...John Fugelsang had a comment during the "Sexy Liberal Comedy Tour" said this: (paraphrasing) "Just substitute "we the people" wherever & whenever you see the word "government" in regards to spending, education, healthcare, & employment." Perspective wise, it makes good sense & doesn't require a "serious conservative wonk" to splain the math.

Think of it like a one size fits all Mad Lib!

I agree with everything you posted. Couldn't Even watch the news...

Then I came here & tried to find something less rabid than Chris or Ed...& over the days I have used my thoughts on this in a more strategic direction. I was thinking about what should President Obama & his team do besides prepare & definitely be more engaged in the next two debates?

Now we all know that that scum sucker Rmoney lied through his teeth, came out fighting and completely reversed his positions (on the surface) & walked over the moderator, & the President. So what to do?

We know that Rmoney gets flustered if he gets caught up. I don't know who reads DU but my idea is to make these next debates throw that SOB off his little game cause it's not little at all.

So what if POTUS uses his opening statement to slam that entitled prick? What if he argues using past lies, policy flip flops, etc for the first minute & pivot to what he wants to put forward in the debate. Zingers are only good if you are the one putting out the opening. Putting Rmoney on the defensive from the opening statement would fluster him & we know what happens when he offers 10,000 dollar bets.

Anyway, I am moving on, phone banking for our candidate for Congress, Mark Takano, & hoping that since our President saw the tapes of this last performance & will figure out how to kick this motherfucker's ass for the good of our country's future.

I have thought about this for days, & I believe there will be a turn around for the better. He just needs to come out presidential & aggressive. The country will be behind him if he respectfully takes the offensive and permanently wipes that fucking smirk off Willard's face...and his little wife too! (wicked witch cackle)

You all remember 2004, when we saw an Illinois State Senator give the "Keynote " address @ the DNC?

I first saw E. Warren in 2009 when she was on Bill Maher's show or perhaps it was The Daily Show, or Colbert...anyway...she came on to explain T.A.R.P. for those of us who wanted to know about the bailout. In fewer words than a short paragraph, she made sense to those of us (like myself) who are mathematically and/or financially challenged. She was someone that I'd watch grow into what I hoped to be Tim Geithner's replacement. *sigh* My niece was starting law school @ Georgetown. While she was visiting my Mom in San Diego we had lunch &I asked her if she'd ever heard of Elizabeth Warren & she hadn't. Flash forward...she now is a "daughter of Georgetown", & knows "who she is & doesn't remember her until she saw things re; her run for senate. (she never picked her head up from studying, pro bono, internships, et al) I don't remind her that it was me who talked about her but I am glad she knows her now. That leads me back to that big speech in front of the DNC..."THERE IS NO RED AMERICA, THERE IS NO BLUE AMERICA, WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!" "ONLY IN AMERICA IS MYSTORY EVEN POSSIBLE". (paraphrasing, but you get my drift) We know what we thought...or at least it IS.what I thought...and he was a state senator!

Now here we are...8 yrs later...President Barack Hussein Obama has been POTUS for four years. And we will vote...& when we do ..the 99% will be the difference...and spreading ddown-ticket not only nationally, but local & statewide as well. The power of our voices will be our votes! This is our chance to make the other side spend more than a billion dollars on the presidential race alone & God only knows how many more of their precious dollars will be spent...but one thing I do know is...OUR IDEAS ARE BETTER & without our VOTES, the lying, manipulating, job creating ladder pulling, door closing, I've got mine folks, the my God is better or more right than your God folks, the folks that try to legislate a woman's health, or those who use love as a "wedge issue" fuck... I got carried away this morning...(long story for later when I get offa my soapbox...( note to self...re: dinner last night & disagreement with a long time best pal of our family who is diehard rethug but sweet otherwise)...Anyway...we must elect all progressive or D candidates this November & make this year a reverse WAVE election! We need solutions & those candidates who are totally bought & payed for step aside for those who want to govern.

We need to be the 99%!

OCCUPY THE BALLOT BOX, THE EARLY VOTE, THE MAJORITY, & THEN WE CAN GET OUR COUNTRY BACK IN HANDS THAT MAKE IT...TOGETHER!!!

Thank you Elizabeth Warren, for helping me with the numbersnumbers. I know deep down, you will win Teddy's seat back & do what I know you will...to help our country get back on track.

(I just had to get it out even on my cell phone)

So in conclusion it seems sufficient to say...WE DON'T HAVE KANSAS ANYMORE!!!!!

Way to GP!!

Was going to state how I arrived at my views; Tonight, Rachel went point by point...

I don't know how to post links & text from my cell phone, but tonight Rachel went through when & why things happened. Our fallen Ambassador Chris Stevens had written a memo re; increased al queda presence in a neighboring city to Tripoli. Check out "The Rachel Maddow Show" tonight. I hope that will clear some of this up. In the next 24 hours investigators will arrive & shed more light on what led to this attack. The sophistication of this attack led to the working theory that this may have been more coordinated.

I wish I knew how to cut & paste from cell phone but I am not sure how to do it. Lost many a post attempting to. I am not someone who posts without doing my homework & hopefully will have my reg. computer up & running soon.
