Will Cell Phones Be able to See Through Walls? New research says YES!

It looks like Superman’s X-Ray vision might not just be for Superman anymore.

Thanks to new research coming out of the University of Texas at Dallas, we may be able to channel one of Clark Kent’s famed superpowers by using our cell phones to see through walls.

A team at the University of Texas at Dallas, led by Professor of Electrical Engineering Dr. Kenneth O, has tapped into two significant scientific advances that could open up this new technology. The first is an unused range in the electromagnetic spectrum, and the second is a new kind of consumer-grade microchip.

The electromagnetic spectrum characterizes wavelengths of energy and measures all ranges of light. Dr. O’s research is using the terahertz band, which has previously been inaccessible for most consumer devices. The band lies between microwave and infrared rays and can allow devices to “penetrate” through objects in a way similar to X-rays.

When signals on the terahertz band travel from your phone, they’ll bounce back — and that’s when the microchip comes in. The chips are manufactured using CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) technology, which is the basis of most of the electronic devices around you. A censor in the chip will pick up terahertz signals and then images can be created.

Photoshop elements 10

Help!

Adobe Photoshop elements 10 is on my list of photo editing softeware. I have read the writing on the box and have googled various review sources all to no avail. The capabilities I seek don't seem to be included in the program.

What do I seek?

I want something akin to Corel Photopaint 6, a program I have installed on my windows based unit. Photoshop elements would be used on my MAC.

Specifically, I want tools similar to the masking tools found in Corel as well as the intersection and welding functions.
Of course Jpeg and RAW are essential with import and export capabilities...

Does anyone out there have a handle on any of this?

You could be right...

What actually is being measured? Memory or the ability to apply logic and reason in the most efficient way? And to what environmental factor does high IQ play a role in supporting the survival of the fittest?

Could High IQ individuals survive in the jungles of the Amazon with no access to any of the gadgets and technologies that make up the world that spawned them? I fear that HIgh IQ would not be enough. Cunning, diabolical ruthlessness and physical strength would be necessary to supplement one's High IQ under those extreme circumstances.

If memory is the main ingredient of high IQ, an unfamiliar environment full of wild animals and hostiles would prove fatal in a short time. OTOH, if the erudite or gifted person in question had committed him/herself to learning about their new jungle environment beforehand, regardless of the circumstances that got them there, the chances for survival would increase.

I think all would agree that people with high IQ cannot and do not apply that tested intelligence in all situations one might encounter in life. The test measures only a portion of that. Math, music, art and comprehension of complex knowledge are rarely mastered by one individual. For instance, Einstein was a genius but he wasn't a concert pianist or great artist. Stevie Wonder is a musical genius but I doubt if he has a grasp of quantum physics equal to that of Einstein!

Cell Phones Suck II: They're Listening...

Source: Earthfirst!Journal

Rumor has it that cell phones aren’t very secure. Most cell phones nowadays have Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in them, and even older phones that don’t can still be easily tracked by triangulating their signals to towers. Every time you call someone or someone calls you, information about your phone, their phone, and the start and stop times of the conversation is recorded. Word on the street is that the feds can even remotely turn on the microphone in your cell phone and use it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations, in some cases even when your phone is turned off, all without you knowing. This is why Earth First!ers often take the batteries out of their phones before sensitive meetings. I’ve often wondered how much of this is true and how much is the product of paranoid, security-culture junkies. Turns out, it’s all true.

************************************

My curiosity about cell phone security peaked when I had to give my SSN over the phone to an IRS phone operator to verify something. A little research provided me with the above. In my wildest dreams I never imagined just how un-secure my cell phone is; and, in ways I never thought of. The prophecies outlined in the book 1984 have come to fruition through the devices we all love so well. Yes, that includes your computer with the ubiquitous spy cam built into it! But the cell phone is the most nefarious tool of all for keeping tabs on you and your associations without your knowledge!

Heidi Hankins from Winchester has a 159 IQ. She taught herself to read and was able to count to 40 at two years old.

British Mensa chief executive John Stevenage said Heidi's parents "correctly identified that she shows great potential".

The 2080 Census: The World As We (Don't) Know It

The 2080 Census: The World As We (Don't) Know It
by LINTON WEEKS (NPR)

April 15, 2012
Census data from the past is really hot. When the National Archives posted details from 72 years ago — the 1940 census — online recently, millions of Americans stampeded the website to try to learn more about their past.

But imagine how cool it would be if, by some twist of time, the National Archives were to make available detailed census information from nearly 70 years in the future — the 2080 census.

We asked James Dator, director of the Hawaii Research Center for Futures Studies, what kind of information census takers will be soliciting seven decades in the future. Dator says that possible questions might include:

—Do you have a home, or "biophysical domicile"? If so, is it on Earth, the moon, Mars or elsewhere?

—What is your current sex?

—What is your permission number for drinking water?

In a minute, we'll show you more suggested questions from Dator — along with John Sweeney and Seongwon Park, two Ph.D. candidates in the University of Hawaii at Manoa Alternative Futures program — based on their research.

Official: North Korea Missile Launch Expected in Next 24 to 48 Hours

North Korea is expected to launch a long-range rocket in the next 24 to 48 hours, according to a U.S. official.
The official says that based on the amount of fuel the North Koreans have pumped into the rocket, the trajectory could be very long. The rocket is now expected to travel south by southeast, crossing over the Philippines and, if successful, splashing down in waters not far from Australia.

Many of the countries along the route have asked for U.S. assistance in tracking the missile’s trajectory, which has sophisticated radars and a number of antiballistic missile ships in the region.

The White House and the State Department have stayed in close contact with Asian nations.
The primary focus, however, has been putting pressure on China to rein in North Korea, which thus far has shown little willingness to cooperate. “It is fair to say that the Chinese are spending most of their time telling the U.S. to relax,” the official said.

Angela Corey: Justice in high heels! Praise, praise praise

Angela Corey is impressive. I was thoroughly mesmerized by her bearing and delivery. My confidence in her and our justice system soared after hearing her remarkable news conference. There was not even an inkling of racism in her speech or appearance and I believe that as far as permissible, Ms Corey will see that justice is served one way or another. Still, im memory of the process that got Corey for us, I applaud Al Sharpton, Mr Crump, and the countless demonstrators of all races and creeds who cried out for and demanded justice!
