Donald Trump could 'do something mad' and provoke war, says ex-military commander
Source: Sydney Morning Herald
London: Donald Trump may prove "deeply dangerous" for the rest of the world if confronted militarily, says the UK's recently retired commander of the joint forces.
General Sir Richard Barrons said President Trump had inherited a "win-lose" attitude from the business world and his military and political advisors might not be able to pull him back from doing something "mad" that would provoke a war.
The warning came a day after the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moved its 'Doomsday Clock' 30 seconds closer to midnight, in response to Mr Trump's statements on climate change, expanding the US nuclear arsenal and the questioning of intelligence agencies.
It is the closest the clock has been to midnight in more than 60 years, since the hydrogen bomb tests by the US and USSR.

The Trump Organization's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, recently doubled its initiation fee after President Donald Trump indicated the members-only establishment would serve as his "Winter White House," according to reports that surfaced Wednesday.
Citing "people close to the Florida resort," CNBC reported that the initiation fee, which had been $100,000 since 2012 after being cut from $200,000, was lifted back to its former $200,000 price tag. This payment excludes thousands of dollars in annual dues.
Trump spent New Year's Eve at the Mar-a-Lago resort and has traveled there repeatedly since emerging from Election Day victorious. He tweeted earlier this month that he wrote at least part of his inaugural address at "the Winter White House, Mar-a-Lago."

The sources cited by CNBC indicated the increase took effect on Jan. 1 and that the club "had been considering an increase for some time." But the adjustment is likely to fan the flames of those concerned the Trump Organization is ratcheting up prices to cash in on Trump's presidential status.
Representatives of the Mar-a-Lago resort did not immediately return a request for comment.

Butch Trucks, Allman Brothers Band Drummer and Co-Founder, Dead at 69
Butch Trucks, one of the Allman Brothers Band's founding drummers, died Tuesday evening in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 69. Page Stallings, Trucks' booking agent, confirmed the veteran musician's death to Rolling Stone, but said a cause of death is currently unknown.
"The Trucks and Allman Brothers Band families request all of Butch's friends and fans to please respect our privacy at this time of sadness for our loss," Trucks' rep said in a statement. "Butch will play on in our hearts forever."
"I'm heartbroken," Gregg Allman said in a statement. "I've lost another brother and it hurts beyond words. Butch and I knew each other since we were teenagers and we were bandmates for over 45 years. He was a great man and a great drummer and I'm going to miss him forever. Rest In Peace Brother Butch."

This is for those folks who miss David Letterman.
Dave's voice can be heard in most of their tweets and observations--I just wish Letterman would come out of his retirement with a new show to dismantle Trump's spin machine. But until then here are a few of his hilarious writers from the NBC and CBS days.
Gerard Mulligan used to appear in skits with Chris Elliot on Late Night and the Late Show:

Bill Scheft recently lost his wife Adrianne Tolsch-- He hasn't tweeted much since her departure:

And of course Merrill Markoe-- She was one of the writers on Dave's NBC show who helped cultivate Letterman's style-- And Merrill is one of his ex gfs. Very funny lady:
