wow, i had a personal goal of never having a post hidden by a jury

but last night i crossed paths with a racist troll (who has now had their posting privileges removed - alled himself Bill O' Rights. Yeah that's right Bill O' started posting some bigotted garbage about non-english speakers, I called him a pendejo and a racista. He managed to get me booted from the discussion, have two of my posts removed and my jury eligibility dropped by ten points before he was sent packing from DU.

Live and learn I suppose.

Obama upbeat after Somalia raid, rising poll ratings and glow of State of the Union address

CHANDLER, Ariz. — If President Barack Obama is showing some swagger, it shouldn’t be a surprise.

His job approval ratings point to an uptick. The Navy SEAL unit that killed Osama bin Laden just pulled off a daring rescue that Obama authorized in Somalia. He’s fresh off a big speech before Congress, and the Republicans who want his job are criticizing each other probably more than they are Obama.

As he hits the road for three days of travel to important political states, Obama is on a roll

Could someone tell me what this TOS means?

When we are not in the heat of election season, members are permitted to post strong criticism or disappointment with our Democratic elected officials, or to express ambivalence about voting for them. In Democratic primaries, members may support whomever they choose. But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). For presidential contests, election season begins when both major-party nominees become clear.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but it really doesn't jibe with reality here. And maybe this isn't an appropriate place to discuss it. If I'm violating TOS by mentioning it, then I'm sorry.

I teach school for 40 grand a year before taxes.

I have a 2000 dollar deductible on my health insurance- better plans are available but I can't afford them.

My tax rate is about twice Mitt Romney's before deductions and still more than he pays afterwards. I won't argue here the worth of what I do for a living against the importance of his profession - shuffling money around and laying people off. But the fact that I am hit with twice the taxes he is, relative to income, is absolutely disgusting.

Ron Paul Was Implicated In Failed White Supremacist Island Invasion

"In 1981, a lawyer tried to subpoena Ron Paul to testify in the trial of Don Black, a Grand Wizard for the Ku Klux Klan who would later go on to found the white supremacist, neo-Nazi website, Stormfront. Black was charged along with two other Klansmen with planning to violently overthrow the small Caribbean country of Dominica in what they called “Operation Red Dog.” While a judge refused to subpoena Paul, Don Black would come back to haunt him many years later.

"In 1981 a group of American and Canadian white supremacists lead by Klansman and mercenary, Michael (Mike) Perdue planned on taking over a small West Indian country called Dominica by overthrowing the government and Prime Minister Eugenia Charles and restoring its previous prime minister, Patrick Johns into power. The group planned to create an Aryan paradise in Dominica and make money through casinos, cocaine and brothels."

In Egypt's New Parliament, Women Will Be Scarce

"It really hurts so much when the same people you were with in that square that day, who are fighting against the regime ... are now turning against you," says Dalia Ziada, an activist who ran for parliament. "It's like betrayal, betrayal from our companions."Like many Egyptian women, she was a victim of female genital mutilation as a child and that's led her to become an advocate of women's rights. But she found that changing attitudes toward women in politics is an uphill battle

"I tried to test how the society is thinking about women after the revolution," she says. "We went to three locations ... and we did a survey that was composed of only one question. Would you accept to see your president as a woman? One hundred percent of them said 'no.' This is what people think, it's okay to have democracy, but women are not in the equation of democracy."

'Get On Board!' Coast Guard Officer Rages At Italian Cruise Ship Captain

Dramatic audio has emerged of an irate Italian Coast Guard officer ordering the captain of the cruise ship Costa Concordia to "get back on board!" as the stricken vessel lay crippled off the coast of Tuscany on Friday night...As NPR's Sylvia Poggioli reports, in the telephone call Coast Guard Capt. Gregorio De Falco shouts as he accuses Costa Concordia Capt. Francesco Schettino of abandoning his ship. Schettino was apparently sitting in a row boat at the time.

"You've abandoned ship! I'm in charge now," De Falco rages. "Go back and report to me how many passengers and what they need. ... Perhaps you saved yourself from the sea, but I'll make you pay for this, damn it!"

I think Ron Paul can win the Presidency

of Nigeria. I don't know what most Nigerians think of The Federal Reserve System, Gold Standard or the works of Ludwig von Mises, but they are with him on this:

Same-sex sexual activity is punishable by death by stoning in the 12 states that have adopted Shari'a law, and by up to 14 years imprisonment throughout Nigeria. There is no legal protection against discrimination. Very few gays are out, and violence against LGBT people is frequent. Legislation is pending to criminalize same-sex marriage throughout Nigeria.

OMG Get a load of the guy's reason for wanting English as the official language

the guy Perry agreed with"

"I don’t know how the rest of the conservatives in the room feel, but personally, I’m fed up with seeing the directions on every single product on every single shelf of every single store written in four languages,” said the man, who didn’t give his name.

I don't even know where to begin with that one.
