Peter King on Ted Cruz: We have to cut this guy off now...it was fraudulent from the start

Republican congressman goes ballistic on Ted Cruz

Appearing on MSNBC on Friday, Congressman Peter King continued his epic verbal assault on Ted Cruz — and, to a lesser extent, Rand Paul — by describing the Texas Senator as a “RINO” (Republican in name only) and a “fraud.”

Speaking with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, King called the ongoing government shutdown “the strategy of Ted Cruz” and wondered aloud “why more Republicans around the country didn’t join me in denouncing Ted Cruz” before the shutdown began. “We cannot allow our party to be taken over by the likes of Ted Cruz and Rand Paul,” King continued, describing Cruz and Paul as “isolationists” and “RINOs” who “don’t represent traditional Republican principles.”

“Ted Cruz, what he did here, was lead the party into a dead end with no strategy, somehow convincing a number of House Republicans that we just sent this to through Senate as far as defunding and closing down the government, he would manage to get Harry Reid and President Obama to back down,” said King. “He never had a plan. It was fraudulent from the start. And we have to cut this guy off now.”

House of Cards

Just finished the first episode. Will there be any sympathetic characters? Don't get me wrong. It is a hell of a show. But everybody is such an SOB and remind me of why I quit the political consulting biz and started teaching. I like the teachers union guy, but so far he is peripheral.

time speeds up

day then another day
and then another year

Christmas with your family, or not
then all of sudden
its that same time again

when you were a kid
a year took forever
and you couldn't wait

not now
fast forward

What I really like about this

other than the fact that some seriously fucked up killers are no longer at large is the fact this president seems to understand that the AQ threat is a loosely affiliated group of assholes who do horrible things like 9/11 or the Nairobe mall killings and not an excuse to invade entire nation states and "roll them all up, involved or not" as Dick Cheney declared.

I think the drone program is part of that shift in strategy as well, but not as smart of one as these targeted capture/kill missions against terrorist assholes. I would guess many of the drone strikes were successful in taking out real bad guys, but were probably overused. Either way they were still preferable to the Cheney doctrine of outright imperialism leading to quagmire,

SEALs Capture (or kill) Leader of Militant Group Tied to Nairobi Mall Attack, also take down Qaeda

leader in Libya

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Navy SEAL team seized a senior leader of the al Shabaab militant group from a seaside villa in Somalia on Saturday in response to a deadly attack on a Nairobi shopping mall last month, the New York Times quoted U.S. officials as saying.

The SEAL team seized the unidentified target in a predawn firefight after approaching the beachfront house in the Somali town of Barawe by sea, the paper reported on its website

"The Barawe raid was planned a week and a half ago," the newspaper quoted an unnamed U.S. security official as saying. "It was prompted by the Westgate attack," he added, referring to a militant assault on a Nairobi shopping mall two weeks ago in which at least 67 people were killed.

edited to add:

A short time later, sources said that U.S. forces also had captured Anas al Libi, a longtime al Qaeda member, near Tripoli, Libya. Al Libi, whose real name is Nazih Abdul-Hamed Nabih al-Ruqai'I, has been wanted for more than a decade by the U.S. and has a $5 million reward on his head."

OK so now somebody set themselves on fire in a DC park.

The navy base shooting, the woman in the car with the baby and now this are like the opening scenes of some Manchurian Candidate-like movie. No link yet, but CNN reporting.
