NY Times Book Review Scorches Matthews' "Tip and the Gipper"

More: http://www.mediaite.com/online/ny-times-book-review-scorches-chris-matthews-tip-and-the-gipper/

Reviewer David Greenberg describes Matthews as a cable news “snarling head” who fundamentally gets his history wrong when describing the relationship between President Ronald Reagan and House Speaker Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill Jr., for whom he worked as an aide. “For those familiar with his brand of confidently asserted overgeneralization,” Greenberg writes of Matthews, “the book is about what you would expect.”

Greenberg goes on to debunk the notion that Reagan and O’Neill “put politics aside at 6 o’clock” to make compromise deals that would help both Democrats and Republicans. “It’s a nice idea for a book,” he writes, “if only it were true.” He questions the “false symmetry” Matthews sets up between the two men, who he says were not on the same level in terms of political influence. Mocking Matthews’ emphasis on Reagan’s “Irishness,” Greenberg concludes, “He has a fine appreciation of blarney.”

Did anyone else watch tonight's Simpsons episode?

It was an episode where Lisa befriended a girl named Isabel, and she found out that Isabel was a conservative, and then they both ran for 2nd grade rep. I'm not going to spoil the ending for those who didn't watch, but it was interesting. The Simpsons definitely seems to have gotten more political than it used to be, at least in my opinion.

From 2007: Guy swipes FOX reporter's mic during iPhone live shot

I have come to the conclusion that...

many prominent Republicans are genuinely crazy and extreme. At first, I was a little skeptical about this notion and thought that they are just paid liars who intentionally mislead people so that they'll vote for more tax cuts. But after hearing Limbaugh, Palin, and now Glenn Beck decry the idea of Chris Christie becoming the GOP nominee, I'm now starting to think maybe they really ARE as crazy and ill-informed as they sound. IMO, no real political swindler would ever advocate sitting out an election if someone becomes their party's nominee because that would just boost the odds of the other major party to win. Furthermore, when looking at Christie's agenda, he has essentially done what the GOP wants him to do in NJ, whether it's union-busting, blocking tax hikes, or opposing minimum wage increases. He works with Pres. O ONCE during an emergency, and all of a sudden, these people threaten to sit out 2016. Smh...

P.S. Here is Glenn Beck suggesting that conservatives sit out the election:

“I really will not vote for another person––never before in my life have I said this––I just voted in a stupid local election… for the love of peet, I vote! I will not vote for another Republican like Chris Christie or Mitt Romney. I will not vote. I will skip it. I will not cast my vote for that!”

Either Rick Perry is very chummy with Chuck Todd, or he doesn't know Chuck Todd's first name.

@RalstonReports
"Good morning, Todd, how are you?" -- Rick Perry greets @chucktodd just now.

@mtomasky
Rick Perry wears glasses all the time now? And I think he just called Chuck Todd "Todd."

@aterkel
Rick Perry also ended with, "Thank you, Todd!" to @chucktodd

@NoahCRothman
Pretty clear Rick Perry has no idea who Chuck Todd is.
