Who else here thinks the GOP should change their platform from "pro-life" to "pro-fetus"?

GOPhers like to call themselves pro-life. But if they are truly pro-life, then why do most of them favor the death penalty? And for a party that supposedly values the sanctity of life, some of them actually vote against an anti-rape amendment:

IMO, all they are is pro-fetus, since they care more about fetuses than they do about whether or not a woman has the means to take care of a child once it is born.

Obama's European Socialist Empire

It has been a long time since Europe has featured so prominently in an American presidential race. Republicans, in particular, have seen the crisis plaguing the Eurozone as an opportunity to attack president Obama, who—they claim—is leading America away from its core values and towards the sickly collectivism prevalent in the European Union. Mitt Romney, in one of those hilarious-but-horrifying Republican debates last September, spoke of a president “taking his inspiration from the socialist democrats in Europe," before pointing out that he, in contrast, believed in America. His vice-presidential pick, Paul Ryan, was complaining to the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza about the lurch towards a European style of government in March 2009, before the crisis in Greece had begun, and has continued invoking the frightening specter of the Europeanization of American as the Eurozone’s woes have deepened.

Is there any hope in the future for election reform in the U.S.?

I think this country is way overdue for election reform. It's obvious that with the system we have now, voting for 3rd party candidates is pointless and essentially equates to a vote for the major political party you'd least like to see in office. As a result, some voters become disillusioned when they don't get everything they want from one candidate in an attempt to vote against another candidate.

How long does everyone here think it will take before we ditch the winner-take-all system, and possibly get something like a parliamentary system or instant run-off voting?

Lieberman rips Romney and Obama for high negativity in the campaign

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman slammed the Obama and Romney campaigns Tuesday for engaging in what he considers record-high negativity during this year’s presidential race.

Mr. Lieberman, an independent former Democrat, made his comments on the same day that a pro-Obama political action committee debuted an ad that features a former steelworker linking Bain Capital’s closure of his plant to his wife’s death from cancer.

The senator, who will retire at the end of this year, challenged both candidates to shift their focus toward laying out their own plans for the country and argued that increasing divisiveness in the campaign is only working to shake voter’s confidence in their nation and its government.

“It’s exactly the opposite of what our country needs,” he said on CNN’s “Starting Point.” “Part of what our country needs now is a healthy dose of vision of what both of these candidates will do if they get elected, instead of trying to scare us into how terrible the other one .”
