The World According To Reagan

Is it true that former presidents become more popular the longer they're out of office?

I remember hearing this in a POSCI class once, and that had me thinking...would more people really start to approve of Bush ll the longer he is out office? On one segment of The Cycle less than an hour ago, they mentioned his approval rating being somewhere in the mid 40s now. Considering how much he raised UE and how he had the country fighting in two pointless wars, I just find it incredible that his approval rating is even that high less than 5 years after leaving office.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Rand Paul: "There is a perception that Republicans don't like people of color"

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) defended his performance at Howard University last week in a 48-minute session with reporters on Wednesday morning, and said that he will continue his efforts to speak with minority groups because he wants to change what he said is a widely held view that the Republican Party is racist.

"There is a perception that Republicans don't like people of color, they don't like black people, brown people or people of different color skin. It's not true, but that's the perception that we have to overcome," Paul said at a breakfast organized by the Christian Science Monitor. "And the only way to overcome that, I think, is by showing up and saying over and over again that it is not true."

Paul said he will continue to speak at places like Howard about the Republican Party's "rich history in civil rights."

"I'll keep trying. I don't give up easily," he said.

So my sister thinks that I am too much involved in politics...

Today I showed her an article of Rand Paul's visit to Howard, and she liked it, but then she asked me if politics is my only interest, since I frequently show her political videos and articles I find on DU. She said that I should find something else to become interested in because most people are very sensitive when it comes to politics, and prefer not to discuss it much, so I risk walking on eggshells and not having much to discuss when having conversations. She might have a point, but I just have become so interested in politics the past several years and there's not much else that stirs up my interest as much.
