yes, thats true. but Iranian tactics have improved

Well, perhaps IF mines is ALL Iran has and IF they just roll over and give up immediately.

But what if - a much more likely scenario - they have supersonic anti-ship missiles dug into hidden bunkers all along their side of the Straights of Hormuz and able to hit any point within the Straights within less than one minute?

Even US carriers wouldn't be able to live on that waterway.

And then there are strikes against Saudi oil installations.

There are multiple critical facilities where a single hit would close down Saudi exports for a long time.

What price oil then?

It is delusional to imagine that anyone - and that includes the Israelis - would win from a middle east conflagration.

Isaac Thread #1 From New Orleans

20:00
Like most here in the path of Isaac, having some trouble sleeping so I thought I would makes some observations of things prior to Isaac's landfall

Starting to look like a the beginnings of a Science-Fiction movie down here in New Orleans. I keep thinking of "Independence Day" for some reason...

The populace here are very calm and collected, everyone is busy updating each others contact points.

In the stores bottled water is now gone from the shelves (I went to two stores), canned food is running low.

Lines around the block at gas stations.

I am pretty well stocked, water is a bit low will make another run for some tomorrow and gas. Also want to get a five gallon back up. Will go for all that tomorrow after work, along with another bottled water run.

I am looking warily at the fact, that I am on the first floor and the apt complex I live in is bordered by canals that lead to lake Pontchartrain on three sides. The closest canal in not 75 yards away.

Govt (I work for the Govt) just sent me a 2nd alert testing my cell phone.

They are starting to check all the hurricane shutters at the Michod Shuttle facility but everything is still go for work today. They might let us off early considering the situation.

Michod is a fortress, and rode Katrina out with the National Guard stationed there. It is high value, since over a third of the govt agencies gets paid through it. Not to Mention on the NASA side it looks like that's where the Saturn stage booster will be built for the replacement for the shuttle...the new SLS.

An acquaintance who is in the Navy and stationed here, says he likely will be evacuated today with his family.

Looking at being in my first on land hurricane (was in the Navy). I just moved to New Orleans from New Mexico.

Queen Elizabeth II asks James Bond to open the Summer Olympics

The 30th Summer Olympics will kick off with an appearance from 007.

After a special invitation from Queen Elizabeth II, James Bond star Daniel Craig reportedly filmed scenes this week at Buckingham Palace that will be used during the opening ceremony of the London Games. Craig and the ceremony's creative director, Danny Boyle, were given unprecedented access to the Queen's private quarters to shoot the scenes.

The Sun reports that the Bond character will play a large role during the July 27 extravaganza. Details are sparse, but the fictional MI6 agent will receive orders from the Queen to open the Games and will parachute into Olympic Stadium by helicopter in the short film, which is being known as, "The Arrival."

"They wanted the most iconic British film character inside the building most associated with London and with the monarch and they got it," a source told the British newspaper. "It will be a magical scene for all watching at home and inside the stadium on July 27."

If it was a coup for the Olympics to get James Bond and the Queen, it's an equal coup for MGM. Craig's newest Bond film, "Skyfall," is scheduled to be released Nov. 9. Having more than one billion people see the character at the opening ceremony won't be bad for marketing.

In response to the popularity of the movie "The Hunger Games", The Queen has asked the US for an armed nuclear device that Bond could disarm at halftime, after fighting off a metal toothed henchman, to the delight of the crowd.
