About Me

Unapologetically tree-hugging squirrel petting liberal.

Journal Archives

Albeit only remotely connected to my LGBT status, I"m finally glad to leave the midwest.

I've been on a 6 month inteventional mission to my elderly parents self destructive wind-down. Got the worst problem placed in nursing home care, set up home care and meals on wheels for mom. I also considered this sort of a depraved sabbatical for myself after severe injuries sustained in a brutal mugging just over 4 years ago.
But frankly even going to a "red" area of california for work now has desirability over this. Between the load of hateful bumperstickers sighted daily, and Fox Noose delusional Zombies driving hundreds of monster pickemuptrucks complete with smokestacks to ensure as much carbon pollutant effluent into yet still relatively pristine air to drive one fat ass and one bag of groceries 30 miles round to work... cough, cough,... as the "one man, one woman" bumpersticker cuts a stinky self righteous fart on my "Love conquers hate" equality flag.
There still, but never see the ratio of this beyond that california border. Ever.
Yet I leave here with the most disturbing thought. That the likes of my mom exist in this area where the media pounds in all kinds of "drive your fucking cars to hell, burn more fuel in the name of X oil company's "good deeds" *coughing more*" but look at all those terrible faggots wrecking our way of life!!!!" televised brainwashing that still has her 87 year old brain convinced it is still post-WWII, and the repugs will save us all from tyranny. No amount of reality will soak her delusional soul, evidence from practically every major university and reliable institute of higher learning, even albeit a product of one, The oceans radical change in pH, nothing soaks because the box has her convinced to vote for the likes of Newt fuckwad Gingrich or whatever red one runs. I assure you the televisionus mesmerizing rays do not enter my own home, haven't since RayGun totally deleveled that playground, and never will in the unwilling and pervasive fashion it bombards and sickens me with on nearly a daily basis when intervening with my mom's problems.
Yet it stirs so much anger at the Kock brothers, and other 1 percenter's efforts to cause this. The number of misinformed, delusional or downright militant hoardes are just palpable here in a way that disturbs my dreams. Tomorrow I leave it behind me in my rear view mirror. Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. Namaste.

Finally, thanks to the ACA implementation, the ancillary medical job market is thriving again. BUT..

Shocked, I tells ya, shocked many of my patients would be to find out how much of my life has been spent by this caregiver sleeping on park benches as a student, and my car when the damn repugnants control our government offices and wrecks the job market.
I'm 54 years old now, and not able to physically handle these economic downswings upon which my travel job is dependent. Since this last period of unemployment, despite having a good financial resume until shortly after the GWB years, my health has suffered, I have no retirement funds or even a hope to be able to save up one again thanks to the long unemployment periods I've had between job assignments and still retire at the age of 64 I had planned on.
Thanks to my republican parents who are reaping now what they have sowed over the years for non-support of their gay son since 16 years of age since I ran away from them to survive on the streets, the financial fluctuations I've experienced for myself with the tide of economic conditions and employment availability, This last stretch of austerity I've had to live through has been a devastating one. I don't bounce back as easily as I did, health-wise or financially from scraping for every penny between jobs.
2016 is truly going to be a turning point for me should any REPUGlican control happen again. I cannot survive another period like the GWB years and after, period. I will give up my whole life's plan, sell my home and maybe move to Sao Paulo. I'm working on learning Portuguese just in case.
Sorry if sometimes I'm redundant in my thoughts here. Finally, I'm going back to work soon, and maybe able to get back on track. But with my life and retirement plans totally blown, no possibility now of recovering ability to retire at 64 as planned, still only now have an empty piece of property with no home on it thanx to this, I can't even think straight anymore. I certainly have learned a hard lesson, and most certainly will take whatever money I can save over the next couple years, revoke my U.S. citizenry, sell my home and move out of the U.S. should any republican control like the GWB years happen again.
Frankly, the more I look at Sao Paolo and other places along the Brazilian coast, nationalized heathcare for citizenry there...

Coach Daubenmire whines christians are being bullied by not being allowed to bully

I site searched D.U. for Daubenmire, didn't turn this one up, so apologies if I am behind the times here.
But this one makes me want to just split my seams. I was a teenage runaway at 16 from a redneck town where bullying of the one known "faggot" (guess who!) made me choose life on the streets over being punched, shoved, kicked, degraded and treated like shit every day. No it did not make me tougher. The streets did, it just made me hungry when I couldn't dumpster dive for enough food.
I was major PTSD'd for years, and sort of still am, but have had some major therapy about past traumas that was very helpful.
I hope the video will work here, it keeps getting removed for copyright infringement. If not, just paste:
Dave Daubenmire bully
into You Tube and it will come right up.

Fan-freekin-tastic Jon Stewart... love me some Jon!

Fan freekin tastic. Jon and Alan lay it on the line. No BS about the gov't pampering the investor class over workers, deregulation that began even before Glass-Steagal repeal, how it set us up for disaster, implication of how re-regulation must occur for U.S. to get out of peril. Highy recommended. Watch both clips. Jon may be a comedian in title, but an informed and accurate journalist as well. Hats off to Jon!

Let me try this again! I don't know what is wrong:

Vote republican, take two tax cuts, roll back regulations and take a permanently relaxing swim in

45 million gallons per day of toxic sludge flowing towards our oceans. Enough to kill all marine life.

copy/paste reply from same article appears to offer a safer alternative:

I live about 4 blocks from one of their mills. In my time here it has been Crown Zellerbach, Fort James, Georgia Pacific, and now Georgia Pacific/ Koch.

The Koch brothers gained control of our mill and others in this area via the Enron power scam which sent every mill of any kind in this area into a death spiral as our power rates climbed some to some 3 times what they had been/

When the Koch brothers gained control their first order of business was to attempt to bust the union by playing hard ball. Every time the union would refuse a contract that was for up to 30% less in benefits they would shut down a few machines open up the side of the building and move them out.

We were sure the mill would close, this made some very happy specifically the well to do folks up the hill who built their houses in the path to the smoke coming from the stacks.

But our mill, it seems is special, built in 1860, it has it's own hydro power plant which generates not only their power by that for the down town area of this town as well. It seems now they are saying it is one of the most profitable mills in the western hemisphere.

This is the State of Wahington and there are people testing the water every single day for the slightest violation but our little old mill makes the grade mainly because the people that work there know their stuff it is not uncommon for the union to blow the whistle on changes they feel will be a detriment to the community.

Interesting.

This is a mill town 19% of the population works in this mill. Down from nearly 70% some 30 years ago.

Becuase of this old mill we have a very great town, ball fields, public parks, some wonderful public facilities, and schools built by the former companies particulurly Crown Z.

Our High School name is the Papermakers.

We hate the Koch brothers as much, if not more than anybody else who has had to put up with their petty, greedy garbage and underhanded ways. But my neighbors, the mill workers, need my support.

A suggestion for those in need of alternatives to GP for products that wish to also buy and support american jobs. Port Townsend Paper is now a worker owned operation.

So, anyone can fact check this? I'm going to look for this label instead cause it sounds promising!

Maybe an emergency broadcast system message might get through how about this breaking into FOX news

"This is a test of the emergency broadcast system. Your local broadcaster in cooperation with federal authorities have developed this test to keep you informed in the event that you're being lied to. This is a test. This is only a test."

To the tune of the Beatles

if unfamiliar with tune.

Isn't anybody going to listen to my story
all about the one and fateful day
Well, Dave and I were a pair, was hunky-dory
Until he interviewed at Chick Fil A
ah, Zealot.... Zealot....
When I think of how hard it was at twenty-something
just to get a job and eat today
but the manager wouldn't let us in to fry a chick wing
just because Dave and I were gay
ah, Zealot... Zealot...
It's the kind of place that puts you down cause your not straight you feel a ghoul
When they serve their Chick Fil A it comes with side of bigot it's not cool
ooh-ooh ooh-ooh ooh-ooh ooh-ooh
Zealot... Zealot...
They've been told since they were young that gay will lead to hay-ell
they didn't understand it when he said
That he couldn't help just what he was despite their bi-bell
and they'd rather gays just all be dead
Ah, Zealot... Zealot...
Zealot... Zealot...

I'm a living example of why we need healthcare reform

As a medical professional, 20 year experienced Xray/CT technologist at the time of my catastrophy, I'd like to share my story.
December 17th, 2009 is a day I wish I could erase. I was riding my bicycle for exercise near my home in Arizona. I was hit by a truck door, obviously, knocked to the ground and knocked barely concious. I became aware that my attackers were kicking me repeatedly in the head and face, did my best to protect my face with my arms to little avail. My backpack, I-pod, bicycle disappeared with my muggers. I stumbled to my house, where I fumbled for my old TracFone and dialed 911. (My new phone was in the backpack)
So, I ended up on the CT scanner that I worked on, scanned by the tech I'd trained to do her job. I had several facial and cranial fractures, partial blowout fracture of the right orbit, three blown disks in my neck.
After taking care of emergency needs at the time, began to follow up... here's where it gets stinky!!
Shortly after having the MRI that diagnosed several surgeries I would need to correct my problems I lost my job to very suspicious circumstances and my work-provided insurance sent a COBRA letter stating continuance of my plan would cost me a little over 3500 a month. Xray jobs in very short demand. I applied for state crime victim assistance--- DENIED. My inability to identify my attackers leaves the state of Arizona no way to recover the funds. I later found out the conglomerate healthcare organization and my previous employer at the time enjoy a very cozy relationship... when letters from both come from the same building adress?...
I've traveled for work since. I applied to every health insurance company I could find online, all turned me down c/o preexisting conditions. I only could qualify for a "catastrophic care" coverage plan I still carry that won't pay for "preexisting conditions".
Nearly three years later I've paid off the debts this cost me. I still walk around and work with a partially numb arm, chronic dizzyness, horrible repeat nightmares I've been through treatment trials for (and did help with that considerably), a partially detached retina, chronic ear infections, cognitive difficulties, sciatica, headaches... I won't even begin to discuss the PTSD.
What kind of "Best healthcare system in the world" can healthcare professionals NOT afford?
