The Shock Doctrine: Aurora

I do not for one minute believe Mitt Romney's public "condolences" for the families of the victims of the Aurora theater shooting. The shooting and the resulting political and media cease-fire is the best thing that could have possibly happened for him. Anyone who thinks that the GOP isn't taking full advantage of the situation is absolutely kidding themselves. This isn't a football game, it's a war. A real war. In disaster situations like this, conservatives have again and again throughout US history pulled off their most damaging stuff while the public is in a state of shock.

Kochroaches are people, my friend...

This was originally posted in the DU Lounge, but after much soul-searching I decided it is better posted in GD...

Edit: Given Romney's recent "unmasking" in the MSM, I figured this would be a good time to kick this post.

DogKnob's official contribution to Campaign 2012 is here!

So far, we have BUTTONS and HOODIES* ready for you to add to your political fashion repertoire!

Edit: I'll do bumper-stickers if anyone is interested, but if Rmoney somehow steals the election, please contribute to my "Get DogKnob The Fuck Out Of The Country ASAP" fund.

My entries in the Henri "feel-alike" contest...

If you have not seen the "Henri" films, they are very funny (https://www.facebook.com/henrilechatnoir). The first two are better than the new third one IMO.

During the "Henri Fever" that broke out after the second film, I saw many posts about him here on DU.

Anyway, the ennui-filled (yet adorable) zoomorph, in a half-hearted, shark-jumping effort to reach the 16th minute, is having a photo caption contest on his Facebook page.

These are my entries, featuring the corpulent (yet cuddly) Molly. You may "like" them. You may "ignore" them. Molly doesn't care...

Thinking about building my next computer. Can you point me to good resources/help?

I'd love to build a laptop, but if I can put together a compact enough desktop that is easy to move around, then that's not out of the question.

I need top graphics, top audio and lots of high-speed ports for connecting audio hardware (lowest possible latency is the goal here -- and most pro audio gear plays badly with hubs).

I had a mac back in the snow leopard days, but I'm now using Win7. Any system I build will probably be a dual-boot Linux/Win7 -- I just don't like where Apple is going in their attempts to dictate everything; they've sort of become what Microsoft was like before Firefox kicked their ass and Vista shamed them into humility. Once Apple gets the ass-kickin' that's definitely coming to them, I might consider OSX again.

If anyone here can point me to useful resources/advice for building my own rig, I'd be much obliged.

P.S. I know my remarks about Apple are going to incur the ire of many. Let me say in advance "point taken." I'd like help building a computer, not a "less filling/tastes great" debate thread.

How FOX News resolves contradictions.

Bill O'Really is either on vacation or regenerating in that energy pod over at Rush Limbaugh's house that's powered by children's tears. Either way, one of the Hooters waitresses is hosting his show today. She just did a story about Jose Vargas, an illegal immigrant who managed to become so successful that FOX is willing to interview him.

On FOX, the Myth of the Bootstraps trumps tough immigration policy.

Up next (I'm not kidding), why comparing Republicans to bullies is a bad idea.

An Important Message From Dupert Doomcock!

"I've noticed how liberals ALWAYS want proof..." (1.1MB graphic)

So ends this beautiful Facebook thread in which a very dear friend of mine completely shut down an OP whining about how the Obama regime is fixing gas prices.

My pal doesn't usually end up in FB discussions like this, but sometimes the temptation to watch a few mental circuits go pop-sputter-kaploing is just too great. My friend, one "Darren Cassidy" comes in near the end...

The truly sad part is that fact-proof people like the OP are getting ready to fight.

Banker Leaves 1% Tip On $133 Lunch Bill In Defiance of 'The 99%'

Typical. I used to sling coffee in SF's financial district (Half-decaf nonfat latte with extra foam and some child's tears). The only thing new here is the brazen elitism.

Clown Car Strategy?

The GOP Primaries.

While this big obnoxious reality show is going on, the GOP is quietly working on their real objective: taking over the Senate and keeping the house... and it's an easily achievable goal -- especially if nobody's watching.

The Democrats are defending 24 seats in the Senate.

The GOP has TOTAL control of gerrymandering (remapping congressional districts) in 15 states. Of the 113 seats in the House that will be up for grabs in 2012, the Democrats currently hold 44 and must gain 25.

It would make the GOP vary happy if we all just continue to watch their clown car. Then in January 2013 we can watch for the next 4 years as a united Congress spends all of its time on impeachment hearings; crashes-and-burns the Federal Government; publicly hangs responsibility around the neck of an "ineffective" Democratic President and, thanks to the passage of NDAA; takes the White House back in 2016 with the tools for a military dictatorship already in place.

Ever play Sid Meier's "Civilization?" If your citizens start gettin' rowdy, you can change your government to despotism with one click.
