Attorney: SAFE Act Pulls Client's Pistol Permit due to Medication

A Western New York man is taking legal action after Erie County suspended his pistol permit. His attorney says it has to do with the SAFE Act and medication his doctor prescribed.

The man turned in his guns, and now he is trying to get them back.

"He has seven pistols, and he is a target shooter, and he is a person who is engaged in competitions with his firearms," says attorney James Tresmond.

According to Tresmond, his client is a Western New York professional with no criminal record - not even a speeding ticket - who wishes to remain anonymous. He says the man received a letter dated April first telling him he must immediately surrender his seven handguns and pistol license to the Amherst Police Department.

US Teargas Arrives İn Egypt For Muslim Brotherhood Use

US teargas arrives in Egypt for Muslim Brotherhood use
Teargas canisters from the United States have been sold to Egypt, arriving on Sunday in the Abadeya port in Suez

A shipment of teargas canisters from the United States arrived at the Egyptian Abadeya Port in Suez on Sunday, according to official documents obtained by the Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper.

Five containers carrying around 140,000 teargas canisters were apparently shipped to the Egyptian Interior Ministry by the Aramex International courier service.

The Egypt Independent reports that the shipping documents state that only the Egyptian government may use the canisters, and that they are forbidden to re-export the shipment or sell it to third parties.

The documents state that the shipment set sail from the port of Wilmington in Pennsylvania on 14 March on board the SS Jamestown. A letter of credit was forwarded without specifying the name of the bank. The Egyptian government paid the freight fees.

Witnesses: Man drove 90 mph with genitals hanging out the window

Three women testified against former Mount Carmel Vice-Mayor William Blakely, graphically recounting times he exposed himself while driving. News Channel 11 had the only reporter in court for Thursday's preliminary hearing in Kingsport.

"I was scared that I was gonna wreck, he was gonna cause me to wreck," witness Deborah Sturgill said.

"It seems that every victim would tell the same story. But I knew all the victims did not know each other," Kingsport Police Detective Terry Christian said.

Personal accounts in Thursday's testimonies started the same - Blakely allegedly waving to get the drivers' attention, then escalating to honking and partially crossing over into the drivers lane.

"At over 90 miles per hour, he had his penis out [the window]... he was masturbating... and that's when it got really, really bad. I wouldn't look over any more, and I wrote his tag number down on my hand, which I believe he noticed, and he exited very quickly," Street said.

Lutheran bishop suspected of killing runner in Sun Prairie while drunk

The bishop who leads 145 Lutheran congregations in south-central Wisconsin remained Monday in Dane County Jail on allegations that he drove drunk and killed a 52-year-old Sun Prairie mother of three who was on a training run.

The Rev. Bruce H. Burnside, 59, of Madison was arrested Sunday on allegations of hitting Maureen F. Mengelt at the northbound exit ramp of Highway 151 at Windsor St. in Sun Prairie. Mengelt was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Sun Prairie, where she died from her injuries, police said.

Kevin Mengelt said Monday that his wife, an avid runner, was preparing for the Syttende Mai 20-mile race in May in Stoughton, which she had run more than 20 times. The couple have three children: Megan, Andrew and Allyson.

She was a former City of Madison police officer and teacher who became a full-time mother after the birth of the couple's daughter almost 20 years ago.

Sheena Cornwell, Iowa woman, arrested for allegedly killing, hanging boyfriend's dog in garage

DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa woman was charged with animal torture after she allegedly killed one of her boyfriend's dogs and hung it in the garage, CBS affiliate KCCI reports.

Sheena Cornwell, 28, was arrested Saturday evening for allegedly killing Lilly, a 10-year-old pit bull mix that belonged to Joshua VanDyke.

VanDyke told KCCI that Cornwell became annoyed when she heard the dog barking. He said she walked outside and, before he knew what had happened, he heard Lilly banging against the garage door.

Police said he found the dog hanging in the garage by her collar, with the leash strung up on the rafters. VanDyke reportedly told police he wanted to get a restraining order against Cornwell, who he said didn't seem remorseful about her actions.

Two charged in police scuffle at Miami crime scene

Two men have been charged in connection with a police scuffle that was captured on a controversial video, which some say shows a high-profile Miami police detective losing control and battering a suspect.

Anthony Ezel Carl Walker, 28, has been charged with resisting arrest with violence and battery on a police officer. Walker was charged with the same offense during a scuffle with Miami police in 2001, according to his rap sheet.

Carl Walker, 33, was charged with resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct.

The two men were collared by police after they apparently rushed a murder scene, crossing the yellow tape meant to keep onlookers from contaminating a crime investigation.

Circus elephant injured in Tupelo drive-by shooting

Source: The Clarion-Ledger

An elephant with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus was injured in an early morning drive-by shooting in downtown Tupelo on Tuesday but is expected to make a full recovery.

The elephant, one of several performing with the traveling circus, was in an enclosure outside the BancorpSouth Arena when it was hit by a bullet in the shoulder, said the arena’s marketing director, Kevan Kirkpatrick.

“We have had the circus once a year since 1995,” Kirkpatrick said. “Absolutely this is the first elephant shooting we had.”

A security guard on the scene was able to provide some information to the Tupelo Police Department, which is investigating but “leads are pretty slim,” said Tupelo Police Capt. Rusty Haynes. “We’re dealing with a victim that can’t talk.”
