Quinnipiac: Clinton leads by 5 among likely voters, 2 in 4-way race

Down from 10 in the last poll, but not nearly as bad as we had feared.

Poll was conducted September 8-13, so Sunday's events partially but not fully reflected.

POLL: Clinton/Trump tied in 4 way, Clinton +1 in 2-way among LV (Reuters/Ipsos)

2 way LV: Clinton 40, Trump 39
4 way LV: Clinton 39, Trump 39, Johnson 8, Stein 2

2 way RV: Clinton 43, Trump 37
4 way RV: Clinton 40, Trump 36, Johnson 8, Stein 3

As you can see, Hillary does better among registered voters than likely voters. So some of the tightening we have seen may be because it's usually around this time that pollsters switch to the likely voter screen.

Additional notes:
Poll conducted September 8-12, so mostly before the incident Sunday
Poll puts party ID with leaners at 43 D, 33 R

Politifact rates President Obama's assertion re. Trump Foundation TRUE

Obama said that Trump’s "foundation took money other people gave to his charity and then bought a six-foot-tall painting of himself."

Fahrenthold verified the anecdote about the painting with the painter, and his reporting found that, at the time the painting was auctioned, the vast majority of funds in the foundation’s coffers were from other people, not Trump. Based on the information available, the story seems solid.

We rate Obama’s statement True.

New York attorney general opens 'inquiry' into Trump Foundation

Source: Politico

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has opened an investigation into the Donald J. Trump Foundation “to make sure it’s complying with the laws governing charities in New York," he said Tuesday.

A source familiar with the matter confirmed Schneiderman’s remark and said the New York Attorney General’s office “has opened an inquiry into the Trump Foundation based on troubling transactions that have recently come to light.”

Schneiderman -- who for months has tangled with Trump over a fraud lawsuit his office filed against Trump University, the Manhattan billionaire’s real estate seminar program -- told CNN’s “The Lead” that the GOP nominee’s charitable foundation is also under scrutiny.

I am proud of the New York's tradition of vigorous AG investigations. Unlike his Florida counterpart, I don't think Schneiderman will be bought off.

"I need you to work as hard for Hillary as you did for me"

President Obama said that in his speech today, and I just realized that she said the exact same thing in her concession speech 8 years ago. Kind of cool how things come full circle. Do you think it was a deliberate reprisal of the line or just a coincidence?

Maybe Hillary should take a page from the Matt Santos playbook

Remember in Season 7 of the West Wing, when Josh decided that Santos should brief the press every day, with the hopes that they would get sick of it? I think Hillary ought to try that. I think a lot of the reason she gets less favorable coverage than Trump is that Trump is constantly making himself available to the media. They reward him with easier coverage. Given how opaque he has been in other areas, such as not releasing his tax returns, Hillary ought to claim the high ground on transparency by 1) briefing the press frequently, maybe even once a day; and 2) releasing detailed health records and making her doctors available for questioning.

I don't think she should have to do either of those things, and I understand that she values her privacy. But I think she has an opportunity to showcase how untransparent Trump is being by giving the media nothing to gripe about, and it would probably improve her coverage.

Help take back #ThanksObama on twitter

It was trending with positives right after the speech but now of course the right has hijacked it with negative, often racist crap. Let's take it back!
