NOt sure if this is the forum I should be posting in, but;

I'm thinking of getting a semi exotic house cat.

I'm leaning toward a Savannah but are there better choices?

At first I thought about breeding but for f1s and f2s the cost from reputable sites are in the low 5 figures, WAY out of my range.

For 'fixed' the range is less than a $1,000 and doable.

Another possibility is the Maine Coon Cat (don't worry, there's no racism involved), or maybe the Serval or Serengeti Cat.

Any thoughts/advice/suggestions.

BTW, I have a 2 1/2 yo Tabby and it may be possible to introduce one of these exotics byo an animal rescue but I don't want the existing cat to drop of an embolism.

Right now I am 'boarding' my daughter's 70 lb Huskie in the basement and my cat almost never goes downstairs except to be let out and jumps at any sound, even upstairs.

You just can't make this up; Florida man accidentally shoots self in leg after gun safety class

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/02/22/florida-man-accidentally-shoots-self-in-leg-after-gun-safety-class/

"Police in Boynton Beach, Florida responded on Friday to a call from a man who claimed he had accidentally shot himself. According to the Palm Beach Post, officers found the man in the bed of his pickup truck nursing a gunshot wound to the leg.

The injured man explained that he was headed home from a gun safety class and had stopped on the side of the road to inspect his Glock pistol. He told officers that he had removed the ammunition clip, but failed to remove the bullet in the weapon’s chamber. As he was manipulating the slide, the weapon discharged.

Police provided emergency first aid treatment at the scene, then transported the victim to a local hospital."

You'd think he'd have stayed awake when the instructor said to "make sure there is not a round in the chamber and ALWAYS keep the safety on".

Just sayin.

That is so funny.

Right-wing pastor: Pat Robertson committed ‘blasphemy’ by mocking creationism.

"A pastor affiliated with the American Family Association has accused religious broadcaster Pat Robertson of “blasphemy” for mocking creationism.

Robertson responded to last week’s debate between Bill Nye, “the Science Guy,” and Creation Museum founder Ken Ham by flatly denouncing the idea that the Earth was only 6,000 years old.

“Let’s be real,” Robertson said on his “700 Club” program. “Let’s not make a joke of ourselves.”

Rev. Mark H. Creech, executive director of the Christian Action League, argued God established all scientific laws, so “good science will always point to Him.”"

I remember the late 60s and something was just 'getting off the ground'; televangelists.

Now, Pat Robertson HIMSELF, who founded the Christian Broadcasting Network (which features HE as the host), what was later to become ABC Family Channel and Regent University (the FUCKING Regent Hospital) and others is now FUCKING BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is so fucking funny!"

"Lawmaker fires handgun in Kentucky Capitol: ‘I am a gun owner… It happens’"

The usual, one of the growing number of media worthy nut jobs.

I would not have posted but what caught my eye, and hence the reason for the post is the picture of said lawmaker and it looks as though it is the official photo, the one taken on maybe the first day of office, but, well, just take a look.

It's Hermann Rorschach's 129th birthday;

And Google has an interactive Home Page today;

https://encrypted.google.com/

It does seem to repeat but there are quite a few of the inkblots but a lot of them are too 'real' to say there are random blots.

Be that as it may, a good way to spend a few minutes (you may/may not want them back) but I don't.

"And Koch (Brothers) Carbon isn’t talking."

And what aren't Dave and Charles talking about?

"Final destination for refinery waste a secret"

"A four-story mound of black, gritty refinery waste that recently was ordered off the banks of the Detroit River likely was moved to Ohio. Where? Those who know aren’t saying."

"Since the spring of 2012, the pile at Detroit Bulk Storage had grown and grown. After complaints from neighbors and environmental groups, the situation finally was resolved last week when Detroit Mayor Dave Bing ordered Wichita, Kan.-based Koch Carbon to move its mountain."

"Brad Wurfel, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, said he was told that the pile was shipped to Ohio. But he said he didn’t know where. And Koch Carbon isn’t talking."

"Wurfel said pet coke is similar to coal but has a higher sulfur content. A power plant that burns it without a scrubber or other filter would release pollutants that contribute to smog, soot and acid rain."

Me thinks AEP may know where this mountain of Koch's pet coke went.

Just had a HUGE 'what if' moment.

What if the prevailing wind and current went west instead of east from Fukushima...

I'll posit one;

Radioactivity fears causes China to shut down their 17 existing plants and cancels the 32 currently under construction.

This would leave China needing coal/natural gas/oil to supplement the loss of their nuclear program.

This would bring about a large increase of anything that comes from a petrochemical and an increase of fracking.

I am not a nuclear power person.

I am not a nonrenewable person.

But WTF is a person to do?

I just thought of a second scenario that would build upon the above;

China could take the release of radioactivity reaching their shores as an act of war.

dun da dun tah dun da dun tah DAAAAAAAAAA!

" Dengue Fever Found on Florida's Treasure Coast"

"An outbreak of dengue fever linked to a neighborhood on Florida's Treasure Coast has caused Mosquito Control officials to go door-to-door in an effort to get rid of possible disease-carrying mosquitos.

Three dengue fever cases were confirmed two weeks ago, Martin County Health Department spokeswoman Renay Rouse said. A fourth case was uncovered after a review of previously unconfirmed cases in the area.

All four cases are linked to people living or working in the Rio neighborhood of Jensen Beach in Martin County, Rouse said."

snip...

"Dengue is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. A person can contract with dengue fever or a more severe form, dengue hemorrhagic fever, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 100 million dengue cases are estimated each year in most tropical areas of the world."

http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/dengue-fever-found-on-floridas/16967121

It was only a matter of time before more and more of the world's mosquito borne diseases came ashore.

As the temps rise, the mosquitoes' range moves northward.

I am not sure at what temperature this species dies but I would imagine most of the eastern FL coast is possible.

And that is not even speaking of anything south and east, into the Gulf.

Now THIS is Cool!

"Timelapse: Satellite Reveals 10 Years of Weather in Three Minutes"

Watch as hurricanes fly across 2,000 miles in almost a blink of an eye.

I did not particularly notice Sandy, or any of the large ones but I'm sure you can see them; just correlate the day/year and slow/stop the video.

Also, watch the El Ninos/La Ninas as they pile up against Peru and then head NE.
