"Oh, the Iraq war. Are you still stuck on that topic?"

That's the gist of a post just aimed at me.

Yes.

Yes, I'm still stuck on that. Millions of casualties, hundreds of thousands killed, and a key contributor to the horror of ISIS. I think it was an unbelievable disaster, spurred purely by low politics. And those responsible have more of a place in The Hague than in high political office.

Rigid thinking on my part, I know.

Sorry.

Oh, Hell, no I'm not sorry.

Do YOU stand with Hillary? Part 1

Did Obama allow ISIS to happen by not supplying shadowy Syrian rebels with advanced weapons?

Does anyone else find it interesting

that some "Democrats" think that Hillary is to the right of Bernie Sanders? When clearly, they are indistingushable from one-another other than their hair styles. And Hillary wanting human rights for ALL people, even bankers and billionaires.

Just wondering aloud what the agenda of these "people" might be?

TWM

Hillary has more than 200 economic advisors. Why doesn't Warren?

Let me start by stating that Howard Fineman, currently editorial director of the Huffington Post and former Chief Political Correspondent at Newsweek, is the most despicable "journalist" working today. I have no idea of why that's true, but I'm sure that after I write this piece, some helpful DUers will come along to tell us. (And to point out that it's very telling that I chose to air his views on DU.)

OK, so I was just listening to a really interesting podcast of On Point, a great NPR program that comes out of Boston.

Democratic Soul-Searching In 2016

The host, Tom Asbhrook, spent 45 minutes discussing our Democratic Party's agita* with a panel that included Fineman, the campaign manager of Ready for Warren, and one of the founders of the DLC.

It was a hoot.

Fineman mentioned that Our Next President™ has more than 200 economic advisors, which he said sounds great until one realizes it means that she has no particular idea of her own as to the right way forward, i.e., she's totally flailing. Totally stumped. Which is why we aren't hearing from her.

As to the current agitation by us pesky "Progressives" in any way slowing Our Next President™ in her quest to gain that which is rightfully hers, the DLC woman said that it would be totally unfair to associate Hillary with policies that happened 25 years ago: times are different now and so is Our Next President™! That got the verbal equivalent of an eye roll from the host (who does that maybe once a month), and Fineman indicated that it seemed implausible that Our Next President™ could be credible as a non-DLCThirdWayer, because that's what she is.

Of course, things quickly devolved into a discussion of Hillary vs. Warren. The DLC woman said that none of this Progressive crap matters anyway because Hillary and Warren would do the same same things as President. Finemen wasn't buying it, at all: he said that Warren was about going after a system that's corrupt to the core and which needs to be blown to smithereens and rebuilt, whereas Hillary was basically OK with the way things are - maybe a few changes, but nothing fundamental.

That's it. That's exactly the difference.

Now Fineman wasn't at all sure that Warren could get the thing done. And he was in no way discounting her running for President, he seemed to think there was a reasonable chance that it would happen. But here's the thing: you could tell he was sick of the status quo, sick of the limitless corruption that has replaced the souls of both political parties. And you can tell that he sees Warren as the light that might lead us out of this bottomless shit-filled pit we've been sinking into.

So that's the question, fellow DUers: do we have a system that's basically good and needs a few little tweaks? Or do we need to tear the roof off the sucker?

If you think the former, then Hillary's your candidate. But if you think we need change, real change, then you're Ready for Someone Else™.

============

*This agita doesn't actually exist, as we're also about to be told. Only a few malcontents on DU, maybe one other on Kos.

Game over, Warrenistas!

Your Massachusetts hero had a meeting with Our Next President™. Can there be any explanation other than Warren swearing a blood oath to Team Hillary?

No! No other possible explanation! OK, some other explanations sound reasonable on their face, but for technical reasons that you Lumpenproletariat wouldn't understand, anyone who meets with Hillary must have sworn to support her. No, Hillary didn't do it to shut you Firebaggers up, that's a really hurtful thing to suggest.

Looks like even that difficult woman from Massachusetts realized that there is not a sliver of daylight between her own views and those of Hillary 6.0, and she didn't want to be Left Behind by the Hillary Zeppelin as it leaves its mooring mast at Lakehurst NJ. (Left Behind! See how I was able to slip in a Rapture reference to attract our friends in the Faith-Based Community? That's why they pay me the big bucks, of course.)

So now that Warren has secretly sworn loyalty The Next One, how about you moonbats doing the same? We totally promise to totally respect your opinions, and we'll fight for income equality and all the other crap that you people like.

Regards,

Third-Way Manny

Most elected Democrats voted *against* war in Iraq

Including half from New York.

I can't see any excuse, whatsoever, for voting for that damned thing. It was either profound ignorance, or profound sociopathy, to sentence so many people to death and devastation .

We can forgive. But we must never, ever forget.

ReadyForSomeoneElse.org, for comment - draft "opening statement"

The following is a draft of what I'm thinking about for the home page of ReadyForSomeoneElse.org, as provoked by this mess. Comments deeply appreciated!

Also please let me know, via DU Mail if you'd prefer, if you have any interest in participating. I'm not sure what "participating" means, but I'm open to suggestions. The goal is to build something that helps other understand why we think that the Democratic Party needs to be overhauled, with FDR Democrats put at the helm.

=============================

No, this isn’t a site filled with pictures of Hillary with Hitler mustaches drawn in, or stories about how the Clintons had people secretly murdered, or any of that kind of stupid/crazy stuff.

This is a site maintained by Democrats who believe that nominating Hillary Clinton to be the 2016 Democratic candidate for President would be a pretty bad idea. The details of our arguments are presented on this site, but here’s the short version:

Hillary, and her fellow Third-Way Democrats have run our Party for more than 20 years. During that time, things have certainly worked out well for the wealthiest Americans – heck, they’ve never done better – but things have gone very badly for the rest of us who aren’t wealthy.

Whether you believe that Democrats or Republicans have been responsible for the rich getting richer and everyone else having to work harder to scrape by, we cannot escape the fact that Hillary and her fellow Third Wayers have led our Party during this terrible time. Either they have actively contributed to our woes, or have been unsuccessful in stopping Republicans, or (as we believe) both.

Instead of continuing the same ideas and policies that have failed us, we must return to ideas and policies that work. Ideas and policies that have worked for Americans in the past, and which continue to work in other countries where they’re followed today.

Hillary and her branch of the Democratic Party represent a failed past; it seems obvious that a different future is needed to turn things around for the rest of Americans, for those of us who aren’t wealthy.

Questions and Answers
Q: Aren’t you just telling people why they should vote for the Republican in 2016 if Hillary’s the nominee?
A: No. We think Hillary as the nominee is a bad idea for many reasons, but it’s almost impossible to conceive of a Republican nominee that would be better for America. If Hillary is the nominee, we will vote for her; slow decline is preferable to quick decline. The exception would be if there’s another candidate who 1) has a track record of fighting for traditional Democratic values and 2)has a reasonable chance of winning the election.

Q: Aren’t you just creating ammunition for Republicans to use if Hillary’s the nominee?
A: It’s pretty hard to believe that a few of us messing around on a web site in our spare time will be able to unearth any information that the Republicans won’t be able to obtain on their own with many millions to spend on “opposition research” and so forth.

Poll: Should videos from Russia Today be allowed on DU?

IF those videos are of known Leftists, such as Noam Chomsky?

What is it with you people?

I'm sure that anyone who's given any thought to the subject realizes that I gave myself most of these hearts. But not all of 'em. It turns out that some very, very kind people, and some very, very cruel people, gave me hearts, too!

Thank you!

To reward both the kind and the cruel in a way that is appropriate for each, I'll be donating two bucks to Elizabeth Warren for each heart that I have right now. This offer does not apply to future hearts, so you moonbats should stop looking at me like some sort of magic multiplying cash register.

Have a good night!

I guess resistance really *was* futile

I'm sorry.
