About Me

I am a fulltime chaperone to an aging pit-bull. She loves pigs-ears purchased from Stewerts Meat Market, long walks anywhere, feeding time and tummy rubs. We both enjoy disc golf, (golf with baskets instead of holes and fancy frisbees instead of golf balls), but for entirely different reasons. Fortunately for all she never acquired a taste for frisbees but she is a sucker for thrown rope-toys and balls. Her goal in life is to see an end to the nuisance that causes some toys to squeak when pressed by her chaperone. After the squeak has been eliminated, the toy is safe to be played with by anyone else because regardless of price it holds no further interest for her. Lastly: that is my real last name! I can get away with calling myself a card carrying chick and often get a chuckle out of folks when I do that.

Need help regarding gender choices in MMOs, maybe help in how I handled a child online too.

Although at age 60 and a gamer since HALO 1 came out I am new to the world of MMOs. When Destiny came out I could either not play it or join in with countless other gamers in this MMO. So I took the plunge and signed up. I am male but years ago I started using female characters where I could in my RPGs, (I mainly like RPG's and FPS's). In Destiny I chose to run 3 female characters. Sadly today, my choice to run females may have just traumatized a 13 year old young man.

The story is as follows:
When I signed up for Destiny I went ahead and filled out my personal bio, stating clearly that I am a 60 year old Viet Nam Era "MALE" vet. Soon after signing up I discovered that I was having a glitch in the game, (still am btw), and added to my bio that I would appreciate any help in fixing that glitch. Destiny has been out a few months now and this glitch prevents me from maxing out my three characters. When other players try to get me to participate in non-solo activities I inform them that I can't, that I have this damned glitch. Should they ask further I explain it further and request any help. So far nobody has offered any help.

Yesterday a fellow player tried to befriend me, I was burning dinner so I told the player that I couldn't chat, that I had to go, and then I logged off. This morning I left this player a message stating the usual that I would make for a lousy friend because I couldn't participate in team things, besides which I didn't even have a microphone, (mic's seem to be a standard request for those team get-togethers). The gamer persisted saying a mic was not necessary. I tried to explain to him/her that I truly wasn't interested in anything other than soloing, that I was happiest doing just that, A couple hours later this player starts asking me tons of questions, (it was kinda annoying because it's hard to keep ducking into hidey-spots to chat while being shot at). Eventually this player said he thought it strange that I was such an experienced gamer and yet such a shy 'girl'. Well that made me go huh?!? in a big hurry so I texted back setting the record straight, that it was in my bio: 60 year old MALE!, that furthermore, after years of gaming I had switched to female characters because I got tired of seeing the backside of my macho-male characters. I get back WTF! When I ask "Huh?" He returns "That's weird, I am 13 bro!"

Well now I am shocked. FWIW up to that point I was sorta thinking I had someone from BUNGIE, (Destiny's creator) asking me stuff about my gaming, my glitches and stuff like that but being coy about it. I even asked outright during our conversation if the person I was talking to was an employee of Bungee and got back "No, just reporting your bugs to Bungee" After hearing that I was talking to a 13 year old, I got REAL CAREFUL with my next response because #1 I did not want to traumatize him further and #2 I didn't want him or his parents thinking I was some kind of internet creep out fishing for kids! I apologized for any misunderstanding, I suggested that should anyone in the game offend him that he needs to hit the ignore button and I ended with my goals all along being that I wanted help with my glitch, that I sincerely meant nothing else. I apologized again for the offense and hit the send button.

It's been about an hour now and I've not heard back, (a good thing I hope), so I have to ask fellow gamers here: Is it non-customary or even strange to use a gender opposite yours when playing in an MMO? If so, it may explain some other issues I have been having, specifically periodically Destiny male character-players shooting at me and bashing me with swords and etc. for no reason that I can discern. (It has no affect, we can not harm each other at all, our bullets and such only hurt the bad-guys).

Need a smile? Blond and 'dumb' and quite proud of it!

Blast from the past warning but guaranteed to make you smile:

Hopefully you now understand that I meant no disrespect with my title. Goldie Hawn puts the 'A' in 'Adorable' here.

Jackie Evancho: My Immortal

Today felt like a good day to post a song, this one:

"My Immortal"

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face—it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice—it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

...me, me, me.

Gov. Perry. Now that you have Ebola in your state are you willing to expand on Health Care?

Question needs no further explanation, needs a response from Gov. Perry.
(edited to add: Thank you Thom Hartmann for suggesting this be asked of Gov. Perry)

Raiders fire Dennis Allen

The Oakland Raiders have fired head coach Dennis Allen, according to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports. There is no word yet on who will replace him.

The Raiders dropped to 0-4 on Sunday after a 38-14 loss to the Miami Dolphins in London. It was Oakland's ninth consecutive defeat under Allen reaching back to last season. Allen, whose one season as the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator in 2011 was the highest level of coaching on his resume when he was hired as the Raiders' head man in 2012, went 4-12 in each of his first two seasons in Oakland and leaves with a combined record of 8-28.

I love football. For the past few seasons I have come to feel sorry for the Raiders and their fans. I don't know what the problem is but I suspect it isn't really the coaches or the players or even their fans which appear to be as loyal as any team could ask for. I wish this storied team and their fans all the best going forward.

I am deeply disturbed regarding these words by Osama bin Laden in light of current events

I am a fan of The Thom Hartmann Show. When discussing what may result in another costly involvement militarily over in the Middle East, Hartmann has been quoting this segment of a speech given to Al Jazeera by Osama bin Laden. The premise is a strategy map for defeating the US economically by a relatively small group of 'terrorists'.

from: http://www.aljazeera.com/archive/2004/11/200849163336457223.html
(this is a few paragraphs down in that speech and is in regards to the Bush Administration)

".....All that we have mentioned has made it easy for us to provoke and bait this administration. All that we have to do is to send two mujahidin to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qaida, in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic, and political losses without their achieving for it anything of note other than some benefits for their private companies.

This is in addition to our having experience in using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers, as we, alongside the mujahidin, bled Russia for 10 years, until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat.

All Praise is due to Allah.

So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah.

That being said, those who say that al-Qaida has won against the administration in the White House or that the administration has lost in this war have not been precise, because when one scrutinises the results, one cannot say that al-Qaida is the sole factor in achieving those spectacular gains.

Rather, the policy of the White House that demands the opening of war fronts to keep busy their various corporations - whether they be working in the field of arms or oil or reconstruction - has helped al-Qaida to achieve these enormous results.

And so it has appeared to some analysts and diplomats that the White House and us are playing as one team towards the economic goals of the United States, even if the intentions differ.

And it was to these sorts of notions and their like that the British diplomat and others were referring in their lectures at the Royal Institute of International Affairs. for example, al-Qaida spent $500,000 on the event, while America, in the incident and its aftermath, lost - according to the lowest estimate - more than $500 billion.

Meaning that every dollar of al-Qaida defeated a million dollars by the permission of Allah, besides the loss of a huge number of jobs.

As for the size of the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars. "

I am very much interested in your opinions DU: Regarding the beheadings of our fellow Americans and in light of Citizens United and the foreign monies that can influence (and profit from) American foreign policy in the Middle East, is it possible or even likely that our government is being hand delivered to further economic disaster along these very lines? Is Thom Hartmann giving us a fair warning here?

I got to see Lindsey Stirling's show last Tuesday

I really should be too old to be a geeky fanboy but I am what I am: I loved the show. The show had none of the bells n whistles from this past summer's tour, no fancy/shmancy lighting, no dancers, just Lindsey and her two bandmates. I was at first a little disappointed but soon grew to appreciate the intimacy this kind of show offered up.

Late in the show Lindsey took some time explaining to us how important it is to be inspired by ourselves, that the seeking of approvals of others can become a trap. She used herself as an example. She told us how she had to battle with anorexia, how she would look in the mirror each day and see something ugly! She further detailed how she put herself in a bubble of what she thought the world expected of her, of how trying to live up to those expectations was bringing her the opposite of happiness. She finished her explanation by telling us that her latest album, 'Shatter Me' and in particular this the title song, is a metaphor for these feelings and her struggles over the past few years.
