A judge has dismissed charges for more than half of the 19 people arrested last November as Salt Lake City police evicted members of the Occupy movement who refused to abandon a tent village that had sprung up in Pioneer Park.
In all, Salt Lake City Justice Court Judge L.G. Cutler dismissed about 20 infractions Monday for 10 people accused of disturbing the peace and violating park curfew. One 22-year-old man was convicted of disturbing the peace and ordered to pay a $100 fine for allegedly resisting officers as they arrested him.

Taxpayers in Europe (and the United States) who have been terrorized since 2008 by government officials warning about economic armageddon, catastrophe, and pestilence should look to tiny Iceland for a taste of how little there is to fear when the experts can't save the people.
Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, recently branded Icelands economic performance "impressive." In the last few years the small island in the north Atlantic has managed to shrink its deficit, reduce unemployment, and allow its economy to grow.
Meanwhile, on mainland Europe, there is hardly any economic growth to be seen, and countries that pledged to make necessary austerity reforms have almost certainly failed to do so.

?[020] BREAKING: Labor unrest is spreading across South Africa. From 10,000 to 15,000 South African miners are striking today.
In the last two weeks, the street marches have grown from a few hundred to thousands. This is the most active labor protests since the end of apartheid. Apartheid ended, but brutal capitalism didn't.

Smaller banks pushed to OK foreclosure deal
U.S. state attorneys general are pressing four banks to accept a legal settlement over botched foreclosures similar to a deal reached with larger competitors this year, according to three people briefed on the matter.
U.S. Bancorp, PNC Financial Services Group, SunTrust Banks and HSBC Holdings have held talks with state and federal officials who investigated claims that loan servicers mishandled foreclosure documents, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the talks are private.
State attorneys general began an investigation of mortgage servicers in October 2010 after reports that practices including "robosigning" had led to improper foreclosures. The probe led to a settlement in February among the five biggest servicers - JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Bank of America and Ally Financial - and 49 states and the federal government.

No? Well tough. The Democratic National Convention for some reason selected California Attorney General Kamala Harris to speak Wednesday night about leadership in the midst of our housing crisis:

Foreclosure moratorium needed as Bank of America gets ongoing federal bailout
http://www.workers.org/2012/08/29/foreclosure-moratorium-needed-as-bank-of-america-gets-ongoing-federal-bailout/
The nationalization of the U.S. mortgage industry by the federal government a takeover implemented by the Democrats and Republicans to bail out Bank of America and other banks at the expense of homeowners and their communities opens the door for activists to demand a reversal of these anti-people policies.
The first step in stopping the massive, ongoing foreclosure crisis is to demand that President Barack Obama immediately declare a moratorium to stop all foreclosures and foreclosure-related evictions, and then move to implement a plan to reduce the amount owed on the 11.1 million homes currently underwater to reflect their real value.

Homeowners, advocates want bank reps jailed for foreclosure fraud
http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/19465592/homeowners-advocates-want-bank-reps-jailed-for-foreclosure-fraud
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -
Homeowners and anti-foreclosure advocates are calling for bank officials and foreclosure attorneys to be criminally investigated and jailed for using fraudulent documents to force families from their homes.
Despite settling claims of foreclosure fraud with the U.S. Justice Department and 49 states, no bank official has been held criminally responsible for the submitted false documents in untold thousands of foreclosure proceedings.
"It makes mafia's organized crime look like fifth-grade math," said Patrick Powell of Cumming.
