to be expected from anyone on the political horizon, no matter the party.
We have allowed the party of the people to devolve into a co-conspirator that would have us all as slave labor feeding the wealthy, a country where those that have nothing to contribute to the wealth of the few are left to perish as useless eaters. A country where bloody empire for the profit of of an out of control military industry and a thriving new mercenary industry are gorged on the blood of those that are no threat to us in any military sense. A modern form of feudalism that is developing before our eyes.
Without a party to protect us from the unwavering desire of some to re-create this nation as a neo-feudal fascism it's rebirth will continue unabated on it's course toward the neo-feudal goal.
The 99% are beginning to see that they are on their own now against the purchased post-partisanship that will lead us to that goal faster or slower, but on the same course, ever rightward ever more cruel and ever more a threat to their well being and happiness.
We are almost there and there appears to be nothing to stop it.
I blame us that are on the front of liberal thought for allowing our party to so easily be taken over by the republican castaways that dare claim to be more than what they are, purchased lackeys of the wealthy elite.
I blame myself for allowing myself to be used as shamelessly as any poverty stricken GOP member that would support and vote for what is demonstrably against their best interests and the interests of over 99% of the citizens of this country.
I blame the party faithful for so easily adopting and even cheering well known and deeply damaging right wing policy simply because they follow the party line (policies that they are well educated about and once fought against).
I blame the party itself for being so easily bought and co-opted by the policies of the Heritage Foundation and The Chamber of Commerce simply for a pittance in campaign contributions.
Without a party to oppose the neo-feudalists, what is left to stop them?
What can we do?
What can YOU do?
WHAT THE HELL CAN I DO!
The last sentence describes not only my feelings, but also the feelings of a growing number of citizens that can not help but see what is happening because it grows more blatant every day.

Sure, you can go to prison for stealing food if you are a serf, you can go to prison for growing a plant even. But the rule of law only applies to peasants. If you are a high government official, a thug doing their dirty work (rape, murder, torture, kidnapping, anything really) or are a billionaire that profits those in high public office (stealing billions in money or real estate, killing people by denying procedures and medicines as the "gatekeepers of health", or imprisoning people for the sake of profit) you are above the law, the law simply doesn't apply to you.
Once when these same facts were true in a monarchy that made the same distinctions regarding royalty and serf classes, there were those that rebelled against such an immune royalty which were allowed to abuse the people, steal everything from them (there homes, their health, even their lives) and face no consequences. Revolutions were fought and promises were made by the victors, Promises such as the rule of law applies to all or it applies to none. Promises that now ring hollow as the champions of a fair government slowly over time devolved back into what was and what always had been, a system of an elite few above laws possessing nearly all the wealth while laws were used exclusively against their victims - the majority that go hungry and grow sick under the rule of that elite.
We have come full circle now. Now it is common for a financial and political higher class to never have to fear laws that would imprison any commoner and we are supposed to accept this, cheer it even as the lord of our castle defeats the lord of some other castle. But the bread and circuses grow ever more scarce. The illusions of fairness ever more transparent, and the cruelties ever more severe.
If we are to follow laws that do not apply to our masters. If our masters are given the fruits of all of our labors while we search our dirt floors for crumbs as they laugh in their mansions discussing ways to extract even more from their impoverished serfs. Perhaps we are less than serfs, perhaps we are dogs that now only lick the hands of the masters that beat us. Perhaps the dream of shared prosperity and happiness has finally died within our hearts and our minds.
Perhaps we deserve our fate because we so meekly, even proudly in some cases accept it.
*this OP was inspired by this one that went largely unread as well as what is common knowledge regarding the financial elite in the speculative and banking "industries" that break laws with impunity and the blessing of our government

with many within the base unhappy with the rightward policies and appointments that have become common under Obama's leadership. Of course he had to fill appointments with Republicans and adopt policies created by the Heritage foundation, all for the same reasons he needs to employ the great wisdom of the Chicago school of economics and a more pragmatic view of ancient constitutional freedoms that simply do not apply to the new American century.
Why? because he is not a moonbat unkempt hippy that thinks even the lower classes matter as much as the producers that keep the party flush with donations and are the only hope if prosperity is to trickle down on our lessers, thereby raising their filthy little boats enabling them to get much needed baths and haircuts. .
There is no split. the base is behind our sagacious leader 99.9% of the time because they know he is smarter than all of us combined, the liars that claim any of the base is unhappy are not even part of the base!
What firebaggers like Sanders and the pathetic paleo-Democratic, Libertarian far left, Anarchists for Putin that have taken over this site need to understand is they are fake "Democrats" suffering from a clinically undetectable mental disorder called ODS, and as such, are not real Democrats, and certainly not his base
they are really mostly (nearly all in fact) libertarians registered as Democrats that only voted for him to advance a master plan the goal of which is to "bring him down" because ODS.
Their end game after bringing down the best President of all time (past and future) is to finally herald a new administration with a Rand as president (whom they love almost as much as Putin).
They are clever and embedded (many of them operating sleeper cells of so called "Democrats" for 30 or even up to 60 years).
Real Democrats like Obama, Baucus, anyone named Nelson, Rahm Emanuel, Lieberman (before the firebaggers forced him to run as a party of one) and Ed Rendell are under constant attack by racist libertarians that claim to vote for Democrats as a cover and who must be destroyed.
Their ODS inspired plot also includes discrediting great thinkers - true progressive thinkers like Milton Friedman and collaborative progressive thinkers like Will Marshall, Al From and others who were so pragmatic that they got an incredibly smart billionaire set of brothers named Koch to help fund their DLC. If billionaires as brilliant as they backed their progressive plans, all I can say is the DLC were top notch geniuses that had been working since the eighties to bring us a Democratic utopia of REAL liberal policies and we MUST carry their torch onward into the future.
The Paulite conspiracy runs so deep here at Neo-DU, that the only way to be sure of backing true Democrats is to check to make sure they are connected to the third way think tank, the progressive policy institute, are former DLC alumni, or in the case of posters on this site - Boggers in good standing with the group.
We true Democrats must have Obama's back no matter what he says or does!
We are NOT frustrated by revelations about the Obama administration's secret government spying programs or the president's support for military action in Syria and we support visionaries such as Summers and that hero Brennan just as we hope to do more for banks and for free trade. We promote kill lists and indefinite detention without rights because all these things are the true Democratic agenda and are all attempts to further the interests of the common working man and his right to be allowed to lose rights and job security in order to enable them to patriotically provide the US with the ability to be competitive on the global labor market and to also allow for a nation secure from the many domestic threats of the disgruntled far left and libertarian terrorists before they become organized. We want these things for our lessers because we love them and have their backs and know what's best for them.
If what is best for them is to reduce their earned benefits like SS and Medicare when they are whinny old farts that can't earn money for their betters anymore, we will support such cuts BECAUSE we love them and want to help them find ways not to be the useless takers that they are. The same for the poor that claim that cutting programs like food stamps will hurt them, in the reality based world if they are not hungry and useful to their betters then we have failed to help them find the bliss in working three min wage jobs to help an economy that is wisely designed to funnel cash to the only people with the ability to trickle success down upon them. I mean, how can we help them if we don't help the rich that may decide to help them at some point eventually?
In conclusion, 99.9% of true Democrats support President Obama on everything all the time and those that do not provide such complete and trusting blind support are not really Democrats or "the base", but rather ODS racist libertarians with an agenda going back to the days of that 'bagger FDR and his hatred of those financially secure enough to shower their wealth down upon us with their unfettered ingenuity. We have already paid a great price for the suffocating regulations that held back the prosperity of the nation until Rubin and Summers under the very liberal Bill Clinton removed the regulatory handcuffs that impedede the creation of true and lasting prosperity that only unfettered capitalism can provide.
Obama's true base loves him, support his every decision 100% and always will, do not believe the lies of the firebagging Putin lovers that not only never really loved him but actually hate him and always will because ODS and their worship of Randian libertarianism.
We need to stick together and go on the attack against what so many falsely see as his Democratic base, our numbers are small, but we are right, have the best funding, and will win in the end bringing to fruition our Progressive Koch inspired Democratic agenda that was so well articulated by our founding DLC heroes. We pragmatic few, ARE THE ONLY true base!
Lets rally! Lets Win!
Are you with me!!!!?

the avoidance of More children killed by OUR chemicals in Syria like they have been killed in Fallujah - adding gasoline to a raging fire only sears more souls to the core. One cannot quench the thirst for peace by gorging vengeance with yet more blood. It is always the innocents caught between raging warriors that kill for power, vengeance, "face", or profit, always the children and families just trying to survive and love and grow that pay the most in pain, loss and death. Hawks do not save children, they execute them - in the end it matters little to the dead what "noble intentions" launch the weapons of destruction that consume their bodies, in the end all they know is suffering, mourning and death.
Let the hawks pretend they were dove's all along, let them stroke their "egos" with that absurdity rather than stroke them with blood.
We did not avoid the death carnival of choice that was Iraq quite so easily, if all it took to avoid all those people dying was to stroke Bush's ego with claims of his brilliance by his sycophants and the reluctant silence of myself concerning his lack of cloth's - I could have spent my wife's last two years of life simply loving and being loved by her rather than spending it with the two of us opposing an absurd war that our conscience demanded we oppose and hopefully stop.
Perhaps another couple will have a chance at a few more months of love together now, without the horrors of war driving them to waste that time trying to stop mad men from killing.
What matters the most is we have avoided some bloodshed, at least for now. I don't care that the Hawks dance and spin and dress as doves and even take credit for a course they did not argue for, I will hold my tongue and allow them to admire the nonexistent cloths "judiciously as they will" while the emperor creates yet another reality for them to admire as only they can.
Spin is meaningless, the lives spared are not. All we can do is loudly decry the hawks when they squeal again as the surely will, the voices of many that opposed the hawks was part of this chance at peace.
When they seek peaceful political solutions, no matter the reason, I will not argue with them. I will let them pretend whatever they need to if it serves MY agenda.... Peace.

You need to study up on the topic if you wish to discuss centrists issues. Because in fact those are
centrist positions by design and definition.
A quick primer below: (there is much more to know about the 30 year "Reaganization" effort against our party which is responsible for shifted us so far to the right of center regarding all but social issues, but a few key facts should get you started on understanding "Centrists" and how much damage has been done by them).
New Democrats, in the politics of the United States, are an ideologically centrist faction within the Democratic Party that emerged after the victory of Republican George H. W. Bush in the 1988 presidential election. They are identified with centrist social/cultural/pluralist positions and neoliberal fiscal values. They are represented by organizations such as the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), the New Democrat Network, and the Senate and House New Democrat Coalitions.
After the landslide electoral losses to Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, a group of prominent Democrats began to believe their party was in need of a radical shift in economic policy and ideas of governance. The Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) was founded in 1985 by Al From and a group of like-minded politicians and strategists. They advocated a political "Third Way" as a method to achieve the electoral successes of Reaganism by adopting similar economic policies (Reagan Democrats and Moderate Republicans would provide burgeoning new constituencies after adding these new economic policies and politicians to our tent they contended) While hoping to retain, woman, minorities and other social issues allies with long ties to the party. Such would be their new Democratic coalition forged between fiscal right and social left under the "New" Democratic banner.
The term Third Way refers to various political positions which try to reconcile right-wing and left-wing politics by advocating a varying synthesis of right-wing economic and left-wing social policies. Third Way was created as a serious re-evaluation of political policies within various centre-left progressive movements in response to international doubt regarding the economic viability of the state; economic interventionist policies that had previously been popularized by Keynesianism and contrasted with the corresponding rise of popularity for neo liberalism and the New Right. In a sense, 80s Moderate Republicans are almost identical to "Third Way" Democrats, one reason I found Obama's statement that he was, policy wise, closest to an 80's Republican refreshingly honest and at the time I gave him kudos for his honesty.

Your proposal would have her take money out of her medication to subsidize an INCREASE in expenditure due to having to buy food stuffs and pay the extra energy costs to cook.
You really think lowering her meager check via Chained CPI will do anything but harm her? I know you neolibs loved the chained CPI and think of course, she's is living high on the hog, it is this person that must find cheaper alternatives for everything (neat trick with medication as the chained CPI ignores the cost INCREASES there. Also you geniuses pretend you don't realize that having found the cheapest (rice and beans that you think is good enough for old people, even cat food being out of reach), what then? Having already chosen the cheapest alternative this scam ASSUMES that they will be able to chose yet cheaper, each year into infinity even tho there is nothing cheaper than the cheapest.
Your statements thus far reveal a cold hearted "pragmatist" that would cut what has already been paid for just to pretend to save money from the budget by not having to redeem SS's investments via the 3 trillion dollars these people have accrued with their money (not the budget's) in T bills to cover these already meager checks.
Centrists are cruel and heartless bastards. IMNSHO

From my perspective, the party I joined thirty five years ago was a party I believed in and so gave my loyalty, It was the party of The New Deal, The Great Society and at the time I joined also the party of civil liberty and equal rights. I see a party in 2013 that is not that party. The question of my loyalty now becomes murky. I think my loyalty now only belongs to my class.
So many here and in the party leadership are comfortable and this place of comfort has made them cold to the reality that is daily life for a great many people.
They make many assumptions from ivory towers of middle class or wealth with little awareness it would seem of those that are lower middle class (quickly falling into poverty even tho they work harder with multiple McJobs than they did before lower middle class meant poverty).
As to the poor - they seem completely oblivious to them and convince themselves that welfare reform didn't harm anybody, it did and does to this day I assure you, it was not a pragmatic solution to a "welfare queen" problem handled well because a Democrat helped to all but destroy it. It will not be a brave pragmatic solution to "earned benefit queens" as they collude yet again with republicans to begin to shred these last vestiges of the new deal and great society.
They cause the poor to become poorer still while applauding the politicians responsible. Their applause and support are what make them just as responsible as their political idols.
They think this is a game, or a sport with my team and their team, not realizing or caring that the ball that is tossed around in this sport is a child that only gets to eat at school and will soon lose that food, or the ball is an elderly widow or widower that can only afford to take their medicine every other day or maybe will freeze to death in a small flat during a winter they could not pay their gas bill (this happens ALREADY).
There are many other balls tossed around for their sport and amusement, too many to list them all here, some are dead or dying, some are living under a tarp in a vacant lot hoping the cops don't roust them or the suburban teanagers don't decide to slum it and amuse themselves by assaulting them while laughing and taunting the "bum" for cell phone footage. Some of these comfortable people give advice to "the poor that in fact do ok". One of them suggested dumpster diving as a viable and reasonable option.
Too many of them applaud policies and politicians that make all these problems worse, they need to get it through their heads, many are dying and more will die of poverty, this is no game and the poor aren't doing ok, they are doing worse all the time with less help available all the time.
It is not serious, pragmatic, or brave to cause more people to suffer and die in poverty because it is referred to flippantly as "eating peas" or "being adult". It is not pragmatic even when the ones shipping away the jobs or destroying welfare "feel your pain". It never was bravery, but cowardice. It is not balanced when an increasing number of people fall into poverty and die while others become wealthier at an exponential rate.
The punditry, politicians, and comfortable may think it is a fun sport full of serious brave adults that make hard decisions.
Cowards all really, making easy decisions, easy because their decisions don't harm them, but rather the poor they barely acknowledge exist for the profit of the wealthy.
Sometimes they even have the gaul to pat themselves on the back and reassure each other "the poor in fact do ok".
I feel very sincerely about these class and poverty issues, I give my loyalty completely to the forgotten, struggling and increasingly poor working classes that birthed me. You decide if that makes me disloyal to this board or the party that has all but forgotten us for donations and pyrrhic election victories, because I will fight tooth and nail against any one of you or any elected Democrat that is harmful to my class, in other words harmful to most of America.
