"We must reinstate Glass-Steagall & HOLD BANKS ACCOUNTABLE WHEN THEY BREAK THE LAW"

Without question or reservation!!!!

Unfortunately, due to statements I foolishly believed in 2008, I don't know if I can believe such rhetoric in this modern political age where 180s are common and there are such stark differences in policies those we elect actually fight for as compared to the policies they promised they would fight for while they ran for the office..

It makes me wonder if we can take any absolutely agreeable statements such as this (which I personally would back 100%) with anything other than a grain of salt.

Our candidates need to gain our trust again unfortunately, I must not be alone in such feelings after watching the past couple of decades unfold. I can't be the only one that feels it is more common that candidates are trying to con us rather than state what they would do if we elect them.

I hate my cynicism, but to be honest, the way I worked and how I felt about the party in '08 and what I thought I was fighting for, my energy my hopes, my trust, where brought to great heights and then mercilessly crushed by the reality that followed.

I haven't felt such cynicism since iran contra proved that great crimes could be committed, were being committed and yet people were held above the law as even the most damaging crimes began to be swept under the rug habitually with few exceptions as if a new caste was born that were to be held completely above our laws.

There is also the cynicism born of believing a party would support workers, our rights, our liberties and our prospects of achieving prosperity through our hard work only to watch even our most cherished representatives sell out our futures enabling instead the continued policies that ever favored capital over labor, greed over the law and which sold our well being to those that now hold so much of the wealth created by our labor and increased productivity that we have not seen such disparity since the gilded age.

Also, the cynicism of watching as our war on poverty became the war on the poor often worsening the plight of those with the least in the most bipartisan of callous lawmaking even in the face of an ever increasing rate of poverty and despair.

I wish I was young enough to hear those perfect words and other such great words and react with the positive energy of one that hears a voice of reason fighting for me in a wilderness of corruption, but I will never be that young again, or that able to trust again.

I may believe some of what they say, but only if their actions have proven consistently that they would do as their words claim, only then could my trust be had again I think, hopefully not to be crushed yet again.

It appears I am not the ony one deeply pissed off and irritated by "rich 'splainin'"

I often resist the urge to poorsplain to the obviously financially secure posters here that keep telling us how well we are all doing, how we are in recovery, how we are on the right track.

What about access to not worrying about your electricity being cut off because you are juggling bills?
What about access to a dignified, well-funded mass transit system?
What about access to education and opportunity?

Are questions I ask on a daily basis, and what might shock some of the cheerleaders here is that those are the most common thoughts to enter the minds of the average American in this day and age, yes, I said average, but it really is more like the majority of Americans. The majority of us have been left behind in an economy where we lose more each day as the well to do gain more each day, what makes matters worse is that we no longer appear to have much in the way of representation no matter how we vote.

I would give what little remains of my life for a party of the people, a labor party, a party that is concerned about the rising and rampant poverty all around the insulated bubbles of the few remaining middle class members that love to tell me how great we are doing, how progressive our party is, how our leaders "feel our pain".

I would poorsplain to them what the true reality is as a party that once represented the people has for the past thirty years abandoned us to decay as a people as completely as they have abandoned the crumbling bridges roads and empty factories that once were the life blood of a people first marginalized, then ignored, and now completely invisible. - it is as if the majority of Americans do not exist.

I would do this splainin' but such is condescension and anger does not translate well as condescension but rather rage repressed becomes expressed, and this insulated bubble of cheerleading "sports team" enthusiasts that do not have the worries of the common man are quite fragile and easily offended, they would ban me from this site were I to attempt to poorsplain to them the nature of the reality of the suffering all around them they are blind to as my condescension would turn to rage before the first paragraph were completed.

You see, it is not just the rich that keep 'splainin to us "how we need to be" to not be struggling and losing, but also those that carry their water from the insulated middle class that are the only ones spoken to by our representatives, the house servants to the rich that exist within our party that are skeeved out by a class they fear they will one day join if they don't ally themselves to the rich splaining servants of the upper crust that call themselves representatives to the people.

If any of them truly cared about anyone but themselves, if any of them cared about most of their fellow citizens, they would not cheer on and idolize those that have shaped a party that once served the people into a golem fit only to further enrich the already rich using nothing more than soft rhetoric and broken promises to the middle class that carry their water while ignoring the rest, the majority, the struggling .... the invisible that are losing or have lost everything to policies chosen by those that they swoon over and adore as if they were teenagers smitten by a heart throb.

There are exceptions within these insulated bubbles of middleclassdom that do see us and do see with deeper insight how their class too shall fall to the greed of the wealthy that own our representatives, there are exceptions as well within our representative bodies that can see the invisible majority, they are the ones that have my respect as advocates that show true empathy and disgust at the indefensible state we find ourselves in and who would, like statesmen of a time now past, attempt to effect change that will perhaps not make the majority wealthy, but at least comfortable enough to survive without the constant dread of becoming homeless and dead. But alas, they need no one to explain to them because they already have eyes to see.

To the rest, you are cowards or complicit idiots that perhaps feel you will one day rise above your middle class status to trample us beneath your feet like the heroes you idolize that have brought this country to a state where an economic recovery is now defined as the rich gaining much more of the monetary resources they will never need or likely spend while the majority fall further into poverty. House servants are what they are, and could only maybe learn from working in the fields for a bowl of gruel and a hope that the next day they will be able to break their backs yet again for yet one more bowl, one more day alive. I do not respect such individuals and attempts to 'poorsplain to them would more likely result in a lynch mob directed towards me than a change of mind or heart.

This is a bad day today (as perhaps evidenced by my lengthy rambling response), one more acquaintance went homeless today and we are all of us trying to help around here but with little success save temporary floor accommodations and calls to the mostly ineffective representatives that work within a tattered and barely existent safety net apparatus ravaged a few decades ago with bi-partisan support and a well adored sports team favorite named Clinton.

New Democrats, The DLC and the Third Way

President Bill Clinton with Al From, president of the Democratic Leadership Council, at a conference in 2000.

New Democrats, in the politics of the United States, are an ideologically centrist faction within the Democratic Party that emerged after the victory of Republican George H. W. Bush in the 1988 presidential election. They are identified with centrist social/cultural/pluralist positions and neoliberal fiscal values. They are represented by organizations such as the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), the New Democrat Network, and the Senate and House New Democrat Coalitions

After the landslide electoral losses to Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, a group of prominent Democrats began to believe their party was in need of a radical shift in economic policy and ideas of governance. The Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) was founded in 1985 by Al From and a group of like-minded politicians and strategists. They advocated a political "Third Way" as a method to achieve the electoral successes of Reaganism by adopting similar economic policies (Reagan Democrats and Moderate Republicans would provide burgeoning new constituencies after adding these new economic policies and politicians to our tent they contended) While hoping to retain, woman, minorities and other social issues allies with long ties to the party. Such would be their new Democratic coalition forged between fiscal right and social left under the "New" Democratic banner. The DLC disbanded in 2011 during an apparent re-branding of the New Democrat movement when money ties to the Koch bros. and Koch representatives placed on the DLC's board embarrassingly became common knowledge among the Democratic left. The DLC is survived by the Third Way, The New Democrat Coalition, and Al From's Progressive Policy Institute among other corporate funded groups that continue to sell their Economic-Right/Social-Left brand of "Centrism" to America.

The term Third Way refers to various political positions which try to reconcile right-wing and left-wing politics by advocating a varying synthesis of right-wing economic and left-wing social policies.

Third Way was created as a serious re-evaluation of political policies within various center-right progressive movements in response to international doubt regarding the economic viability of the state; economic interventionist policies that had previously been popularized by Keynesianism and contrasted with the corresponding rise of popularity for neo liberalism and the New Right. In a sense, 80s Moderate Republicans are almost identical to "Third Way" Democrats.

I strongly believe it's time for a serious re-evaluation of political policies within various center-left progressive movements in response to international doubt regarding the economic viability of the neoliberal corporate policies previously popularized by Reagan and Thatcher! For thirty years we have all but abandoned liberal solutions to economic problems, chasing instead the snake oil of supply side economics, austerity and neoliberal trade policy. These right wing policies have failed miserably, and rather than learn from the New Democrats failed experiments, the center-right faction of the democratic party has chosen instead to double down on failure with more free trade and austerity measures (to include cuts to Social Security).

In the face of a new gilded age of extreme wealth contrasted by an exponentially growing rate of poverty,  a rapidly shrinking middle class and the emergence of an elite class of  bankers, politicians and other predatory behemoths that are held firmly above the law and enabled to steal the remaining crumbs of wealth held by the masses without repercussion, it is not only time to return to Democratic principles of old that created the strongest most prosperous middle class in our history, it is time to reverse the damage done by the right thinking "New" Democrats and their failed policies with a new populism based on the needs of the people over the elite.

We do not need a "Fourth Way" to accomplish this, all we need is a return to the fundamentals of Keynesianism, a strong commitment to labor, increased spending on social programs (rather than cuts), progressive taxation, and an end to the cancer of privatization that would reduce the commons and the basic needs of the populace (such as health care and drinking water etc.) into the cash cows of profiteers of human suffering

Time to dump the "Third Way" for the unquestionably effective "Democratic way" made successful by the New Deal, The Great Society, and civil liberties. Our party can not serve two masters, the choice is clear, they must serve the financial elite, or the economically struggling populace

My choice has already been made.

With the economy improving exactly as planned, those that NEED THE MOST

Are thankfully getting the help they should.

More and more people are becoming aware of how screwed we the 99% are with no help

to be expected from anyone on the political horizon, no matter the party.

We have allowed the party of the people to devolve into a co-conspirator that would have us all as slave labor feeding the wealthy, a country where those that have nothing to contribute to the wealth of the few are left to perish as useless eaters. A country where bloody empire for the profit of of an out of control military industry and a thriving new mercenary industry are gorged on the blood of those that are no threat to us in any military sense. A modern form of feudalism that is developing before our eyes.

Without a party to protect us from the unwavering desire of some to re-create this nation as a neo-feudal fascism it's rebirth will continue unabated on it's course toward the neo-feudal goal.

The 99% are beginning to see that they are on their own now against the purchased post-partisanship that will lead us to that goal faster or slower, but on the same course, ever rightward ever more cruel and ever more a threat to their well being and happiness.

We are almost there and there appears to be nothing to stop it.

I blame us that are on the front of liberal thought for allowing our party to so easily be taken over by the republican castaways that dare claim to be more than what they are, purchased lackeys of the wealthy elite.

I blame myself for allowing myself to be used as shamelessly as any poverty stricken GOP member that would support and vote for what is demonstrably against their best interests and the interests of over 99% of the citizens of this country.

I blame the party faithful for so easily adopting and even cheering well known and deeply damaging right wing policy simply because they follow the party line (policies that they are well educated about and once fought against).

I blame the party itself for being so easily bought and co-opted by the policies of the Heritage Foundation and The Chamber of Commerce simply for a pittance in campaign contributions.

Without a party to oppose the neo-feudalists, what is left to stop them?
What can we do?
What can YOU do?

WHAT THE HELL CAN I DO!

The last sentence describes not only my feelings, but also the feelings of a growing number of citizens that can not help but see what is happening because it grows more blatant every day.

We no longer have the rule of law in this country

Sure, you can go to prison for stealing food if you are a serf, you can go to prison for growing a plant even. But the rule of law only applies to peasants. If you are a high government official, a thug doing their dirty work (rape, murder, torture, kidnapping, anything really) or are a billionaire that profits those in high public office (stealing billions in money or real estate, killing people by denying procedures and medicines as the "gatekeepers of health", or imprisoning people for the sake of profit) you are above the law, the law simply doesn't apply to you.

Once when these same facts were true in a monarchy that made the same distinctions regarding royalty and serf classes, there were those that rebelled against such an immune royalty which were allowed to abuse the people, steal everything from them (there homes, their health, even their lives) and face no consequences. Revolutions were fought and promises were made by the victors, Promises such as the rule of law applies to all or it applies to none. Promises that now ring hollow as the champions of a fair government slowly over time devolved back into what was and what always had been, a system of an elite few above laws possessing nearly all the wealth while laws were used exclusively against their victims - the majority that go hungry and grow sick under the rule of that elite.

We have come full circle now. Now it is common for a financial and political higher class to never have to fear laws that would imprison any commoner and we are supposed to accept this, cheer it even as the lord of our castle defeats the lord of some other castle. But the bread and circuses grow ever more scarce. The illusions of fairness ever more transparent, and the cruelties ever more severe.

If we are to follow laws that do not apply to our masters. If our masters are given the fruits of all of our labors while we search our dirt floors for crumbs as they laugh in their mansions discussing ways to extract even more from their impoverished serfs. Perhaps we are less than serfs, perhaps we are dogs that now only lick the hands of the masters that beat us. Perhaps the dream of shared prosperity and happiness has finally died within our hearts and our minds.

Perhaps we deserve our fate because we so meekly, even proudly in some cases accept it.

*this OP was inspired by this one that went largely unread as well as what is common knowledge regarding the financial elite in the speculative and banking "industries" that break laws with impunity and the blessing of our government

This is an important post regarding recent comments by Sanders and others that the base is split,

with many within the base unhappy with the rightward policies and appointments that have become common under Obama's leadership. Of course he had to fill appointments with Republicans and adopt policies created by the Heritage foundation, all for the same reasons he needs to employ the great wisdom of the Chicago school of economics and a more pragmatic view of ancient constitutional freedoms that simply do not apply to the new American century.
Why? because he is not a moonbat unkempt hippy that thinks even the lower classes matter as much as the producers that keep the party flush with donations and are the only hope if prosperity is to trickle down on our lessers, thereby raising their filthy little boats enabling them to get much needed baths and haircuts. .

There is no split. the base is behind our sagacious leader 99.9% of the time because they know he is smarter than all of us combined, the liars that claim any of the base is unhappy are not even part of the base!

What firebaggers like Sanders and the pathetic paleo-Democratic, Libertarian far left, Anarchists for Putin that have taken over this site need to understand is they are fake "Democrats" suffering from a clinically undetectable mental disorder called ODS, and as such, are not real Democrats, and certainly not his base

they are really mostly (nearly all in fact) libertarians registered as Democrats that only voted for him to advance a master plan the goal of which is to "bring him down" because ODS.

Their end game after bringing down the best President of all time (past and future) is to finally herald a new administration with a Rand as president (whom they love almost as much as Putin).

They are clever and embedded (many of them operating sleeper cells of so called "Democrats" for 30 or even up to 60 years).

Real Democrats like Obama, Baucus, anyone named Nelson, Rahm Emanuel, Lieberman (before the firebaggers forced him to run as a party of one) and Ed Rendell are under constant attack by racist libertarians that claim to vote for Democrats as a cover and who must be destroyed.

Their ODS inspired plot also includes discrediting great thinkers - true progressive thinkers like Milton Friedman and collaborative progressive thinkers like Will Marshall, Al From and others who were so pragmatic that they got an incredibly smart billionaire set of brothers named Koch to help fund their DLC. If billionaires as brilliant as they backed their progressive plans, all I can say is the DLC were top notch geniuses that had been working since the eighties to bring us a Democratic utopia of REAL liberal policies and we MUST carry their torch onward into the future.

The Paulite conspiracy runs so deep here at Neo-DU, that the only way to be sure of backing true Democrats is to check to make sure they are connected to the third way think tank, the progressive policy institute, are former DLC alumni, or in the case of posters on this site - Boggers in good standing with the group.

We true Democrats must have Obama's back no matter what he says or does!

We are NOT frustrated by revelations about the Obama administration's secret government spying programs or the president's support for military action in Syria and we support visionaries such as Summers and that hero Brennan just as we hope to do more for banks and for free trade. We promote kill lists and indefinite detention without rights because all these things are the true Democratic agenda and are all attempts to further the interests of the common working man and his right to be allowed to lose rights and job security in order to enable them to patriotically provide the US with the ability to be competitive on the global labor market and to also allow for a nation secure from the many domestic threats of the disgruntled far left and libertarian terrorists before they become organized. We want these things for our lessers because we love them and have their backs and know what's best for them.

If what is best for them is to reduce their earned benefits like SS and Medicare when they are whinny old farts that can't earn money for their betters anymore, we will support such cuts BECAUSE we love them and want to help them find ways not to be the useless takers that they are. The same for the poor that claim that cutting programs like food stamps will hurt them, in the reality based world if they are not hungry and useful to their betters then we have failed to help them find the bliss in working three min wage jobs to help an economy that is wisely designed to funnel cash to the only people with the ability to trickle success down upon them. I mean, how can we help them if we don't help the rich that may decide to help them at some point eventually?

In conclusion, 99.9% of true Democrats support President Obama on everything all the time and those that do not provide such complete and trusting blind support are not really Democrats or "the base", but rather ODS racist libertarians with an agenda going back to the days of that 'bagger FDR and his hatred of those financially secure enough to shower their wealth down upon us with their unfettered ingenuity. We have already paid a great price for the suffocating regulations that held back the prosperity of the nation until Rubin and Summers under the very liberal Bill Clinton removed the regulatory handcuffs that impedede the creation of true and lasting prosperity that only unfettered capitalism can provide.

Obama's true base loves him, support his every decision 100% and always will, do not believe the lies of the firebagging Putin lovers that not only never really loved him but actually hate him and always will because ODS and their worship of Randian libertarianism.

We need to stick together and go on the attack against what so many falsely see as his Democratic base, our numbers are small, but we are right, have the best funding, and will win in the end bringing to fruition our Progressive Koch inspired Democratic agenda that was so well articulated by our founding DLC heroes. We pragmatic few, ARE THE ONLY true base!

Lets rally! Lets Win!
Are you with me!!!!?

That's all I care about, the avoidance of more war, of more blood on OUR hands

the avoidance of More children killed by OUR chemicals in Syria like they have been killed in Fallujah - adding gasoline to a raging fire only sears more souls to the core. One cannot quench the thirst for peace by gorging vengeance with yet more blood. It is always the innocents caught between raging warriors that kill for power, vengeance, "face", or profit, always the children and families just trying to survive and love and grow that pay the most in pain, loss and death. Hawks do not save children, they execute them - in the end it matters little to the dead what "noble intentions" launch the weapons of destruction that consume their bodies, in the end all they know is suffering, mourning and death.

Let the hawks pretend they were dove's all along, let them stroke their "egos" with that absurdity rather than stroke them with blood.

We did not avoid the death carnival of choice that was Iraq quite so easily, if all it took to avoid all those people dying was to stroke Bush's ego with claims of his brilliance by his sycophants and the reluctant silence of myself concerning his lack of cloth's - I could have spent my wife's last two years of life simply loving and being loved by her rather than spending it with the two of us opposing an absurd war that our conscience demanded we oppose and hopefully stop.

Perhaps another couple will have a chance at a few more months of love together now, without the horrors of war driving them to waste that time trying to stop mad men from killing.

What matters the most is we have avoided some bloodshed, at least for now. I don't care that the Hawks dance and spin and dress as doves and even take credit for a course they did not argue for, I will hold my tongue and allow them to admire the nonexistent cloths "judiciously as they will" while the emperor creates yet another reality for them to admire as only they can.

Spin is meaningless, the lives spared are not. All we can do is loudly decry the hawks when they squeal again as the surely will, the voices of many that opposed the hawks was part of this chance at peace.

When they seek peaceful political solutions, no matter the reason, I will not argue with them. I will let them pretend whatever they need to if it serves MY agenda.... Peace.

You need to study up on the topic if you wish to discuss centrists issues. Because in fact those are

centrist positions by design and definition.

A quick primer below: (there is much more to know about the 30 year "Reaganization" effort against our party which is responsible for shifted us so far to the right of center regarding all but social issues, but a few key facts should get you started on understanding "Centrists" and how much damage has been done by them).

New Democrats, in the politics of the United States, are an ideologically centrist faction within the Democratic Party that emerged after the victory of Republican George H. W. Bush in the 1988 presidential election. They are identified with centrist social/cultural/pluralist positions and neoliberal fiscal values. In a sense, 80s Moderate Republicans are almost identical to "Third Way" Democrats, one reason I found Obama's statement that he was, policy wise, closest to an 80's Republican refreshingly honest and at the time I gave him kudos for his honesty.

the woman in the example can only afford to eat free meals at the center

Your proposal would have her take money out of her medication to subsidize an INCREASE in expenditure due to having to buy food stuffs and pay the extra energy costs to cook.

You really think lowering her meager check via Chained CPI will do anything but harm her? I know you neolibs loved the chained CPI and think of course, she's is living high on the hog, it is this person that must find cheaper alternatives for everything (neat trick with medication as the chained CPI ignores the cost INCREASES there. Also you geniuses pretend you don't realize that having found the cheapest (rice and beans that you think is good enough for old people, even cat food being out of reach), what then? Having already chosen the cheapest alternative this scam ASSUMES that they will be able to chose yet cheaper, each year into infinity even tho there is nothing cheaper than the cheapest.

Your statements thus far reveal a cold hearted "pragmatist" that would cut what has already been paid for just to pretend to save money from the budget by not having to redeem SS's investments via the 3 trillion dollars these people have accrued with their money (not the budget's) in T bills to cover these already meager checks.

Centrists are cruel and heartless bastards. IMNSHO
