New York library lends out ties, briefcases and handbags for job interviews

Most libraries around the country provide much more than books — they have computers, printers and some even have telescopes and microscopes for patrons to check out. Several lend American Girl dolls so kids can check out the highly coveted and pricey toys for a few weeks at a time.

And starting last month, a New York library branch began experimenting with new offerings: neck ties, bow ties, handbags and briefcases intended for people with limited resources who are heading for job interviews, auditions or any other events for which they need to dress up.

“They can use it for a school performance, or prom if they want a tie,” said young adult librarian Michelle Lee, who came up with the idea for the Riverside branch of the New York Public Library. “It doesn’t matter what size you are, anybody could use them.”

The concept came to her in 2016 when she was teaching a free class at the library about job seeking and résumé making. She told the high school students in attendance: “You want to look professional. You shouldn’t be bringing a backpack to a job interview."

Poland used to be okay with Trump. Then, he posted a photo.

The Polish government did everything it could to turn Tuesday’s visit into one of Trump’s more enjoyable moments.
Yet, somehow, Trump managed to offend the Poles so deeply that the fallout was all over Polish news sites on Wednesday morning.

What happened? At the end of their meeting, the two leaders agreed to sign a strategic partnership pact to boost defense, energy, trade and security ties. But what could have been a peaceful moment for both presidents immediately took an awkward turn.

SNIP

While signing the document, Trump sat comfortably in his chair while the Polish leader was forced to stand next to him and awkwardly reach over the table to sign. Poland’s Duda still somehow managed to smile at the camera, as Trump looked on with a stern face. The scene was captured on camera by the White House and was tweeted out shortly after — much to the bewilderment of Polish journalists, politicians and researchers.

The message is clear: Americans do not respect Poles,” Sibora told the Polish news outlet. “If we sign such an important document in that way, we should ask ourselves whether this wasn’t detrimental to the honor of Poland.”

Let's see if got this right, Kavanaugh assaulted a girl in high school and that means:

1. The Democrats should have done something
2. The Washington Post should have investigated more.
3. Diane Feinstein is the devil.
4. The Democrats are to blame.

Sorry, but lots of transparency here in GD today.

Jack Chalker

I've only ever read his Well World Books and a stand alone novel or two. What series by him do you recommend I read next?

TIA.
