SAN FRANCISCO -- British regulators are investigating a psychological experiment Facebook conducted on 700,000 unsuspecting users.
The regulators are working with data protection authorities in Ireland, headquarters of Facebook's European operations.
They want to know if any British citizens were subjects in the controversial experiment. They are also probing whether the data gathered in the experiment maintained the anonymity of users.
The Facebook experiment was conducted for one week in 2012. It manipulated the content users saw in their news feeds to see if emotions could be spread. Some users saw positive updates from friends, others saw negative updates.

North Carolina DU'ers, are you prepared for Arthur ?
The present storm track models seem to estimate it will give you the most trouble out of all states. Best wishes !

Target is "respectfully" requesting that shoppers not bring guns into their stores.
The retailer posted a notice on its website Wednesday and quickly drew attention on Twitter.
"Our approach has always been to follow local laws, and of course, we will continue to do so," the notice says. "But starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target even in communities where it is permitted by law.
"We've listened carefully to the nuances of this debate and respect the protected rights of everyone involved. In return, we are asking for help in fulfilling our goal to create an atmosphere that is safe and inviting for our guests and team members."

LONDON Something completely different was never going to be on the menu. The record-breaking ticket sales generated by the news that members of the fabled comedy team Monty Python would be reassembling here for a rare onstage reunion were surely not generated by hopes that the old boys had come up with new tricks.
No, the many-thousand-strong fold that assembled at the O2 Arena, where the show, which is running for 10 nights, opened on Tuesday, arrived in the spirit of pilgrims in search not of revelation but reassurance. And Im presuming that is what they received, in a program that had both the pomp and familiarity of a high church ritual.
For it can indeed be said that Monty Python lives! Or to cite the disarmingly accurate title of this expensive-looking collection of vintage sketches, what we have here is Monty Python Live (mostly).
That parenthetical qualifier resonates. Of the six original Pythons they who in the early 1970s redrew the map of whats funny on this planet only five still walk the earth: John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. The sixth, Graham Chapman, died in 1989, though his sacred name and image is evoked throughout. It should also be noted that a good stretch of the show is no more live than Mr. Chapman is, which is not to say that its dead.

CNN) -- Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier held captive for five years by militants before his release a month ago, has ventured several times off an Army base in Texas as part of the effort to get him used to everyday life in America, a military spokeswoman said.
His release on May 31 in exchange for five Taliban being held by the U.S. military has rankled some, including former members of his unit, who said he was a deserter who endangered colleagues searching for him. Yet while investigating circumstances surrounding his departure, the military has also said it's focused on making sure Bergdahl gets better mentally and physically, so he can gradually readjust to normal life.
Since being freed, Bergdahl has been carefully monitored at a military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, and his home since June 13, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
He recently transitioned from inpatient care at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas to outpatient care, the Army said on June 22

The stereotype of a computer gamer is of a single man playing alone in his bedroom or basement.
But the reality is that women also play - and get obsessed with - massive multi-player online role-playing games. And thanks to technology it no longer has to be an isolating experience.
Molly and Pete lived hundreds of miles apart in the US and would probably have never met were it not for their shared obsession with World of Warcraft. Now they're married.
They spoke to the BBC about the stigma of finding real-life love in an imaginary universe.

I know the map and NHC are at odds, but I'll take the NHC take. eta02: Apparently when NHC says no tropical cyclone formation, that apparently means no NEW storms.
