What if images of the Republican celebration air alongside shots of a hurricane striking New Orleans

Katrina’s specter: While Tampa has avoided a direct hit, Isaac risks presenting an even bigger problem for the convention planners here -- becoming a hurricane and slamming into Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle on Tuesday. And politically, it has raised the specter of Hurricane Katrina. The New York Times: “Republicans were wary of the optics of television coverage split between the revelry and partisanship surrounding Mr. Romney’s nomination and the threat of the storm making landfall in Louisiana or Mississippi seven years to the week after Hurricane Katrina left an American city in ruins.” The paper adds, “It is the second consecutive time Republicans have had their conventions disrupted by the August storms.”

What does this image of Romney make you think of?

For me it looked like something from the Communist era of Russia.

Dee Snider blasts Romney camp's use of Twisted Sister hit

Another election year and the Republicans are illegally using music:

Are there any recording stars not named "Kid" or "Jr." who are willing to let the Mitt Romney campaign use (or like) their music? A week after Silversun Pickups issued a cease and desist order to the GOP candidate for playing one of their songs at events, Twisted Sister's Dee Snider has now spoken out with a similar objection.

After getting word that Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, used the band's biggest hit at a recent rally in Pennsylvania, Snider issued a statement to website
"I emphatically denounce Paul Ryan's use of my band Twisted Sister's song, 'We're Not Gonna Take It,' in any capacity," Snider said through his manager. "There is almost nothing he stands for that I agree with except the use of the P90X."

"We're Not Gonna Take It" spent 15 weeks on the Hot 100 in the summer of 1984, topping out at No. 2, making it the band's biggest hit.

I hope the Starship and the writers of We Built this City are paying attention

You can bet your dollars that the GOPers will play that song next week and my money would be on them not paying for the rights to play it.

That is what they do!

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/starship/we+built+this+city_20129679.html

Songwriters: PAGE, MARTIN GEORGE / TAUPIN, BERNIE / LAMBERT, DENNIS / WOLF, PETER F.Chorus:
We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

Say you don't know me or recognize my face
Say you don't care who goes to that kind of place
Knee deep in the hoopla sinking in your fight
Too many runaways eating up the night

Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

Chorus:
We built this city, we built this city on rock and roll
Built this city, we built this city on rock and roll

Someone always playing corporation games
Who cares they're always changing corporation names
We just want to dance here someone stole the stage
They call us irresponsible write us off the page

Why Akin probably doesn’t exit today or tomorrow

http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/21/13393834-first-thoughts-the-chickens-may-have-come-home-to-roost?lite

About 1/3 through the piece on nbcnews.com

As much of the party is pressuring him to exit the race, Akin is up with a new TV ad asking for forgiveness. “Rape is an evil act,” he says to the camera. “I used the wrong words in the wrong way. And for that I apologize. As the father of two daughters, I want tough justice for predators. I have a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault. And I pray for them… The mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold. I ask for your forgiveness.” Here’s our guess for now: Akin isn’t withdrawing today or tomorrow. He might eventually (before that final Sept. 25 deadline, at which point he would have to ask a court to take his name off the ballot), but it won’t be now. Why? Put yourself in Akin’s shoes. No one in Washington wanted him as the GOP nominee in the first place (even if they didn’t try to get the person they wanted), and so he owes them nothing because -- in his mind -- these folks asking him to get out didn’t help him get there. And isn’t it perfectly rational in HIS mind that he take longer than 24 hours to decide whether to stay or go? It may not be comfortable for the powers that be, but given how hard U.S. Senate nominations are to come by, it seems nuts to think he’ll simply walk away from this in 48 hours, especially since he doesn’t believe he did anything wrong other than use the wrong word. And by the way, be careful of any polls claiming the race is still close. That is probably true now, but make no mistake: This race is NOT WINNABLE for Akin anymore, period. All Claire McCaskill has to do is run ads featuring every quote from uttered yesterday by every prominent Republican in the country denouncing Akin as unfit to run.

Has anyone reminded Romney that the British did an excellent job on the Olympics?

And their security was very good as there were no attacks.

Job well done Brits!
