Proposal for gun safety...

We create a national arms database we can call it NADs

Every firearm manufactured or imported would be registered in the database, manufacture, manufacture data, seller, sold date, owner(s).
The database would identify what type of weapon it is, and where it is located, how it is stored (locked in gun case, hung in the back window, set in the corner of the dining room).

As well, every piece of ammunition would likewise be registered, where made, sold, owner, expended.

Owners would be required to report an inventory either on line or through a mail in survey for the really back woods rednecks. This could be an annual task or whenever there is a transaction or ammunition use.

Freedom ain't free and citizenship requires some responsibility! The gun owners need to man up and take responsibility for their right to bear arms.

Our automobiles are in a database, we have to keep that information current and take responsibility for our automobiles, so why not guns?

End-of-world rumors prompt Michigan officials to close 33 schools

Michigan education jumps the shark:

More than 30 Michigan schools closed for the holidays two days early, in part because the Mayan calendar predicts the world will end on Friday, an official said.

Matt Wandrie, superintendent for Lapeer Community Schools, said doomsday "rumors" are running rampant in several districts, adding to fears raised by last week's school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

"Given the recent events in Connecticut, there have been numerous rumors circulating in our district, and in neighboring districts, about potential threats of violence against students," Wandrie wrote on his website.

"Additionally, rumors connected to the Mayan calendar predicted end of the world on Friday have also surfaced," he added.

For us future retirees, Social Security will only be coffee money.

It will not be a the safety net we expected.

We have paid into this program for 40 or more years and the rich fuckers need it worse than we do.

Tried to do street view to show the sign for D and U intersection but Google Earth was not clear and Bing did not have a street view for this area as it is extremely remote.

Mom says 'I am Adam Lanza's mother,' details life with terrifying son

In the post-Newtown debate over mental illness, a distraught and exhausted mother has written a chilling article describing life with her troubled son and the health care system's shortage of options. The boy, "Michael," remains undiagnosed, and despite medication he continues to exhibit a hair-trigger temper. His mother says Michael shares characteristics with gunman Adam Lanza and other mass killers, and during his unpredictable episodes he makes frightening and violent threats. The mother's lack of help is typified by her meeting with a social worker who informed her that their best option is to get Michael charged with a crime, because "That’s the only way you’re ever going to get anything done. No one will pay attention to you unless you’ve got charges."

The entire article is republished below with permission from "The Blue Review."

Friday’s horrific national tragedy—the murder of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in New Town, Connecticut—has ignited a new discussion on violence in America. In kitchens and coffee shops across the country, we tearfully debate the many faces of violence in America: gun culture, media violence, lack of mental health services, overt and covert wars abroad, religion, politics and the way we raise our children. Liza Long, a writer based in Boise, says it’s easy to talk about guns. But it’s time to talk about mental illness.

Three days before 20 year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother, then opened fire on a classroom full of Connecticut kindergartners, my 13-year old son Michael (name changed) missed his bus because he was wearing the wrong color pants.

“I can wear these pants,” he said, his tone increasingly belligerent, the black-hole pupils of his eyes swallowing the blue irises.

“They are navy blue,” I told him. “Your school’s dress code says black or khaki pants only.”

“They told me I could wear these,” he insisted. “You’re a stupid bitch. I can wear whatever pants I want to. This is America. I have rights!”

With state-run treatment centers and hospitals shuttered, prison is now the last resort for the mentally ill... What does that say about US as a country?

When this nation finally bans assault weapons, do not blame any elected official

It will be the fault of all these lone gunmen who have slaughtered innocent people, many of them children. It will be a nation that has finally had enough of this senseless killing, the mass killings and the daily street shootings that will have caused the ban.

It will be a knee-jerk reaction by many to simply blame the administration in power at the time of the eventual ban. Make no mistake about it, it will be the result of the nation reaching a breaking point and demanding that something be done.

Lake Erie wind farm proposal wins $4millionin federal funding

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Wednesday that Northeast Ohio's Project Icebreaker is one of seven proposals nationwide to advance in the high-stakes competition to prove the promise of offshore wind power.

LEEDco, the Lake Erie Energy Development Corp. formed in 2004, created the Northeast Ohio public-private-academic partnership behind Project Icebreaker. The organization's proposal called for the installation of nine 3-megawatt turbines seven miles off the shore. The challenge now is to determine the details of drilling into the lake's floor, transporting the structures out into the water, and finally getting them to stand – and stay – upright.

Ultimately, the goal is to demonstrate how to build a wind farm that provides power at the same cost as traditional electric plants when the cost of construction, maintenance and energy production are averaged over the 20-year life of the wind turbines.

"There are 8,000 parts in a wind turbine and every little thing we can do to reduce the cost or increase the energy produced is in play," said David Matthiesen, a professor of materials science and engineering at Case Western Reserve and the research team leader for Project Icebreaker's research and development group.
