Sandy took the HMS Bounty but returned another from the depths...

A wrecked schooner long buried on Fire Island — a barrier island off of Long Island, N.Y. — now lays fully exposed following Hurricane Sandy's attack on the beach.

The weathered hull of the shipwreck lies about 4 miles (6 kilometers) east of Davis Park, between Skunk Hollow and Whalehouse Point, in the Fire Island National Seashore, as first reported by Newsday.

The remains are thought to be the Bessie White, more than 90 years old, said Paula Valentine, public affairs specialist for the park. Historic photographs and news accounts don't agree on the year of the ship's grounding, but here is an outline of its story:

The ship, a four-mast Canadian schooner, went aground in heavy fog about a mile west of Smith's Point, Long Island, in either 1919 or 1922. The men escaped in two boats. One capsized in the surf, injuring one crew member, but everyone (including the ship's cat) made it to shore safely. But the crew couldn't save the 3-year-old ship or its tons of coal. The ship was salvaged in the following weeks.

Letter to the Red States in regard to your secession

Dear Red States:

We're ticked off at your Neanderthal attitudes and politics and we've decided we're leaving.
We in California intend to form our own country and we're taking all the other Blue States with us.

In case you aren't aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, New York and the rest of the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of our new country, The Enlightened States of America (E.S.A).

To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Andrew Cuomo and Elizabeth Warren. You get Bobby Jindal and Todd Akin and "Legitimate rape."

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Apple, Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom and Halliburton..

We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama and the Dallas Cowboys..

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the fresh vegetables, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines, 90% of all cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh and Bob Jones University.

We also get Hollywood, Yosemite and the Pacific Ocean, thank you.

Oh, and we're taking the good weed too. You can have that crap they grow in Mexico.

Sincerely,

Citizens of the Enlightened States of America

Seven states qualify for secession response from White House

The petitions for secession from the U.S. filed by Texas, Louisiana, and five other states have collected more than 25,000 signatures each, which the White House website says is enough for review and response.

WASHINGTON - Citizens from more than 40 states have filed petitions with the White House seeking to secede from the union, and by Wednesday, seven states had gathered enough signatures to qualify for a response to the largely symbolic protest.

The petitions, which have been signed by a small percentage of state residents, have virtually no chance of succeeding. The United States' bloodiest conflict, the 1861-1865 Civil War, erupted after 11 states withdrew from the union.

The White House has set up a "We the People" page on its website that allows Americans to file petitions on issues of concern. If a petition collects 25,000 signatures, the website says, the administration will review and respond to it.

I wonder how many of these petitions my moronic brother has signed.

Also, I love this one from the article: A counter-petition has been filed calling for the state capital Austin to secede from Texas and remain part of the United States.

Probably the same 25,000 on all seven petitions.

The company I work for is shedding 1500 jobs and closing plants and it's Obama's fault?

I am hearing from all my right wing brothers and reading on the replies to news about the company that I work for and the downsizing and they are blaming it on OBAMACARE.

The decision was made last June when some corporate slob decided that not doing business with WalMart was the right decision. Then proceeded to cut the company down due to the loss of sales.

So now we are hearing that it is all because of OBAMACARE.

Jesus, these people are FUCKING CLUELESS and they make dumbass conclusions from reading a headline that the company is cutting 1500 employees.

I need to add this:

Motor Trend: Tesla Model S Car of the Year

Electric sedan takes the coveted crown after Motor Trend's rigorous testing.

The Tesla Model S is the 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year. The luxury 5-door electric sedan fought off 10 other finalists for the Golden Calipers trophy, acing the magazine's six judging criteria in the process. Eleven judges reviewed the contenders, including three guests, and for the first time in the award's history all 11 voted unanimously for the winner. Each car was evaluated on advancement in design, engineering excellence, efficiency, and safety and value. While 25 vehicles were eligible to win, judges narrowed down the field to the final few over two weeks of solid testing.

I was lucky enough to see one up close as close enough to touch one, this is a sweet ride.

And electric too!
