President Obama condenses argument against Romney in new ad

President Barack Obama's campaign wants voters to "remember" Mitt Romney when they cast their ballots.

But the image of Romney isn't the image the Republican presidential nominee's campaign is pitching.

Obama's latest ad is a 30-second digest of the arguments he makes against Romney.

"Mitt Romney's plan rolls back regulations on the banks that crashed our economy," the narrator says. "Medicare: voucherized. Catastrophic cuts to education. Millionaires will get one of the largest tax cuts ever, while middle class families pay more."

President Obama warns GOP not to undo Wall Street law

Source: Boston.com

President Barack Obama is warning congressional Republicans not to undo financial regulations he signed two years ago, taking specific note of the work of a consumer agency created by the new law.

In his Internet and radio address Saturday, Obama drew attention to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, noting that it and other regulators recently cracked down on three credit card companies, ordering them to pay $400 million to people who were misled into making purchases they didn’t want.

‘‘Sadly, that hasn’t been enough to stop Republicans in Congress from fighting these reforms,’’ Obama said. ‘‘Backed by an army of financial industry lobbyists, they've been waging an all-out battle to delay, defund and dismantle these new rules.’’

(snip)
Obama, sounding much like a consumer advocate, also informed listeners that they can now contact the consumer bureau to seek redress over problems with credit scores.

Weekly Address: Protecting the American People with New Wall Street Reforms
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/10/27/weekly-address-protecting-american-people-new-wall-street-reforms

In this week’s address, President Obama highlighted the work of the new independent consumer watchdog he fought to create, which stands up for consumers and protects Americans from mistakes made by the companies who determine your credit scores. Republicans in Congress have tried to roll back consumer protections that help prevent big banks from creating another financial crisis, but the President refuses to let that happen and will continue to fight for working Americans as we move this country forward.

President Obama on Mourdock: Male politicians shouldn't make abortion decisions

(snip)
Obama said the string of maligned abortion comments from Republicans was a sign they should remove themselves from the conversation.

"This is exactly why you don't want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women's health care decisions," Obama said. "Women are capable of making these decisions in consultation with their partners, with their doctors, and for politicians to want to intrude in this stuff often times without any information is a huge problem."

The president went on the frame the issue politically, saying the next president would have the opportunity to appoint justices to the Supreme Court, which could potentially hear a challenge to Roe v. Wade. Mitt Romney, Obama's Republican challenger, has said that he would appoint justices to the court that would support overturning the 1973 decision affirming a woman's right to have an abortion.

"Roe vs. Wade is probably hanging in the balance," Obama said.

President Obama On Mourdock: ‘I Don’t Know Where They Come Up With These Ideas’

Jay Leno asked President Obama about Indiana Republican Senate nominee Richard Mourdock in an interview set to air on Wednesday's "Tonight Show." According to the pool report, Obama was baffled by Mourdock's remarks about rape, pregancy and God's will.

(snip)
When Leno asked Obama about Mourdock's remarks, Obama said "rape is rape. It's a crime."

"I don't know how (they) come up with these ideas...rape is rape. It is a crime," Obama said. "These various distinctions about rape don't make too much sense to me, don't make any sense to me."

"This is exactly why you don't want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women's health care decisions," he told Leno. "Women are capable of making these decisions in consultation with their partners, with their doctors, and for politicians to want to intrude in this stuff often times without any information is a huge problem."

Feds investigate phony letters warning Florida voters they're not eligible to vote

The FBI and U.S. Postal Service agents are investigating bogus official-looking letters sent to voters in at least 28 Florida counties questioning their citizenship and their eligibility to vote, NBC News has learned.

David Couvertier, a spokesman for the FBI in Tampa, said his office opened up an investigation into the possible attempt at voter intimidation on Wednesday after receiving reports that eligible voters throughout the state have received the letters.

"We're taking it as a serious situation," he said. "We're looking at everything from civil rights violations to election fraud -- to everything in between."

Chris Cate, a spokesman for the Florida Secretary of State's Office, told NBC News, "We believe these letters appear to meet the standard of voter intimidation," Between 50 and 100 such letters have been reported to state officials so far, "and those are only the ones we know about. We're encouraging people to come forward."

Biden: I'm 'surprised' Romney agreed with us on foreign policy

Appearing on TODAY, Vice President Joe Biden said that he was "surprised" by Gov. Mitt Romney's agreement with the president on foreign policy issues in the debate, eschewing his previous criticisms of the administration on international affairs.

"Just a couple weeks ago when I debated Congressman Ryan, Congressman Ryan was laying out the foreign policy with regard to what he and what Gov. Romney believed; the overwhelming criticism of our positions in Syria, Iraq, Iran, and across the board. And tonight, Gov. Romney seemed to be rushing to agree with everything the president had done already."

"I was surprised," he added.

(snip)
"I think we will win Ohio," he told Matt Lauer in the interview, which aired Tuesday. "I think we're going to win Florida."

Chris Coons: ‘Once Again, A Completely New Governor Romney Showed Up Last Night’

Freshman Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), appearing Tuesday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," offered his take on the foreign policy debate on behalf of President Obama.

"There was only one commander in chief on stage last night," he said. "It is too late for Governor Romney, once again, to move his positions dramatically. ... What was striking was that yet again, a completely new Governor Romney showed up last night."

Political Wire:Reaction to the Third Presidential Debate, President won hands down

The third and final presidential debate was President Obama's best moment in the campaign so far. He was prepared on every issue and knew Mitt Romney's record of past statements just as well.

Obama succeeded because he conveyed his unique view of the world from the Oval Office. For undecided voters watching, all they probably heard was that he's the commander-in-chief. And that's what Team Obama wanted.

For the most part, Romney made an effort to look presidential by not attacking. He was exceedingly careful and desperately tried not to make a mistake. In fact, despite his rhetoric for the last two years, he now apparently agrees with most of the Obama administration's foreign policy.

As a result, Romney's biggest opponent was not the president, it was his own words. Obama did a brilliant job of bringing up past Romney statements -- on Iraq, on the nation's biggest adversary, on Afghanistan, on Osama bin Laden -- to make him look unprepared for the presidency.

As the debate went on, Romney tried many times to move the international affairs discussion back to the economy where he was more comfortable. It was as if he had only 30 minutes of foreign policy talking points for a 90 minute debate. As a result he seemed to string together random thoughts which often made him sound incoherent.

Obama won the debate hands down.

Bob Schieffer started off doing a good job as moderator, framing questions but still letting the candidates engage each other. But he lost control of the debate as both Romney and Obama often preferred to talk about the economy. It's clear that both candidates know that most voters don't care much about foreign policy.
