Welcome, Everyone, to THE Official 11//12/13 14:15 Celebration Thead

That's right, where we take time out for this special, once in a lifetime moment, the very last day/month/year sequential date of the century. The likes of which will not be seen again until your great-great grandkids' time.

Take some time out to post what you're doing, or just your thoughts at this special time for posterity. Spread some joy and laughter with your fellow DUers. Your entire life had led up to this moment, so use it well.

Last month we had the 12 December 2013 thread for those of you who go by the less accurate mm/dd/yy method. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024019112

Didn't have a lot of input there, so clearly, everyone is saving up for now... This is a thread for the more proper dd/mm/yy date. This is the place where we're havin' all of the fun.

The celebration will begin in the Eastern Time Zone and will sweep across our great nation for every subsequent hour, until it reaches parts out West.

So it's time to party, everyone... All virtual drinks are on the house. So slap a lampshade on your head and boogie down in your boogie shoes. These are special times upon us.

I'm watching "They Live" again, this time On Demand

This movie could have been made yesterday, instead of 25 years ago.

Frank: The steel mills were laying people off left and right. They finally went under. We gave the steel companies a break when they needed it. You know what they gave themselves? Raises.

It IS Out Of Control.

The Grifter Train Rolls On!

The U.S. Continues to Be One of the Least Taxed of the Developed Countries

The U.S. was the third least taxed country in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 2010, the most recent year for which OECD has complete data.

Of all the OECD countries, which are essentially the countries the U.S. trades with and competes with, only Chile and Mexico collect less taxes as a percentage of their overall economy (as a percentage of gross domestic product, or GDP).

This sharply contradicts the widely held view among many members of Congress that taxes are already high enough in the U.S. and that any efforts to reduce the federal deficit should therefore take the form of cuts in government spending.
