She's just truly lovely. Elegant, classy, tasteful, a shining light of grace and charm - FABULOUS as an ambassador of the U.S. And make no mistake, the First Lady and the President, too, are also, among their many responsibilities, ambassadors representing this country to the world whenever they step outside our geographical boundaries. Hell, anymore, with the international extension of the media and internet, you don't even need to step outside the border to be a representative of your country.
But Michelle Obama takes it to a whole 'nother level that's simply sublime. We are extremely well-served. THAT is the face of The American Woman to the world. And that makes me VERY proud!
On another matter, I wouldn't mind having shoes like hers in your collection of photos. Those I'd definitely wear!

I do appreciate the tone of your question here - you don't sound like you're spoiling for a fight or anything.
You know, it's funny about writing these things down. No one hears the vocal inflection, or sees the facial expressions or eyebrow tilts or winks or whatever - that add lots of other meaning and subtext. Often it's easy for someone to read something there on the flat page and misunderstand. I'm sure you've seen a few posts by now where somebody's asking - "did you forget the 'sarcasm' (one of the smilies)?" That happens a lot.
I'm sure you didn't mean offense, since this sounds pretty sincere, and it's good to hear from the small-business-person's side. However, your post may have read as possibly negating the point of the OP. The "some grain of truth" may sound, to some, as demeaning and belittling in nature. After all, everyone recognizes that a "grain" is a rather minute object. Hard to quantify this stuff, of course, but I think the OP does make a legitimate point - a LOT more than a "grain" of truth in there just talking sheer size. No one discounts that small business owners work their asses off. But they do so standing on many other shoulders - of those who ALSO worked their asses off - to build the roads, build the bridges, process and deliver the mail, build the aqueducts and water systems that enable the sanitation of each small business, build AND staff the public schools in which the small business owners were educated as children and their employees for the most part probably are, too. And even if they went to private school, the construction and staffing and maintenance of same STILL required the products of public investment, whether in transporation, sanitation, electrical systems and infrastructure - all those are public things. Public utilities they're called, sometimes. And that's no "grain's" worth, it's actually a rather substantial, and ongoing, contribution.
I think that's what's known as a social contract. We all pay in and we all get value back out. We all invest and we all share the benefits.
Could this be part of what John Donne meant when he soliloquized that "no man is an island"?

That's the CEO mindset at work, and on display.
The "how dare you ask me that." As though we're not permitted to dare such a thing. Which is how it is when you're a CEO in a big company and YOU are the 800-pound gorilla in the room and what you say is law and is not to be questioned unless you wanna risk getting yer ass fired for being insubordinate. Such is life in Corporate America, where you don't talk back to the boss. You keep your mouth shut, or you open it only so far as to say "yes sir!" Because he's at the top of the heap and you - and everyone else around him - is BENEATH him. He's accustomed to out-ranking you. And as CEO he's used to being the one people bow to and obey without question, because they all know he's the guy who can hire and fire. And we all know he likes being able to fire people who serve him.
And the President of the United States is NOT a CEO. He is the highest-ranking PUBLIC SERVANT in the land. All elected officials are PUBLIC SERVANTS. THEY work for US. It's NOT the other way around. And romney doesn't get that. He's never been in a position to get that - except in Massachusetts where, as I understand it, people thought he lost interest after two years in. (Hmmm... like palin?) And he didn't like answering questions back then, either, OR being transparent OR accountable. Which is what you have to be when you work for THE PEOPLE. And it's regular flesh-and-blood people, not the "corporations are people, my friend" people.
The CEO mindset is incompatible with the office of President of the United States. Because the POTUS very much IS INDEED accountable and answerable. The CEO thinks he isn't answerable to anybody. And at the top of the private corporate zigurrat, that's true. Government, however, is neither private nor corporate. And it IS accountable and answerable - to the public. In ways corporations aren't. The object of government is NOT to make a profit. That's what businesses are set up to do. The private sector. NOT the public sector. They're just fundamentally different. And romney doesn't get that. He can't. He has no template for it. Always the boss who never has to answer anybody else's questions because HE's the one who ASKS the questions of everybody lower-ranked than he is. The President, on the other hand, IS answerable to EVERYBODY.
That's the CEO mentality talking.
That's what he's used to as a businessman. That's all he knows - the CEO whose word is absolute and who can hire and fire at will without having to answer to anyone. He's the CEO, so everybody else has to answer to him. And he likes firing people who serve him. As the self-anointed king he fancies himself to be.
One more time - a President of the United States is the top PUBLIC SERVANT in the United States. The President works for US. It's not the other way around! And he is hard-wired not to get that - at all.

It's that CEO mentality talking. He's the chief executive. So might as well say "king."
The latter day version of absolute monarch as a "captain of industry." To whom everyone beneath him (and as CEO, that means EVERYONE is beneath him) bows and scrapes.
The CEO's word is law and no one questions it, especially since he likes firing people who serve him.
That alone leaves him extremely ill-equipped to be a public servant, which the President of the United States is.
