She was against it before she was for it.

Swerengin Voices Support for Gay Marriage

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin has announced that she now supports gay marriage. Swearengin, a Republican who is running for state controller had been a supporter of Proposition 8. She announced her new position last week at a meeting of an LGBT conservative group in Southern California.

Swearengin: "It's not been a focal point of my campaign. it's unlikely I would ever have any opportunity to address the issue as state controller. So for the most part I'm staying focused on the two issues I'm campaigning on, the fiscal health of the state and economic development throughout California."

In a written statement released this week Swearengin said she recognizes that same sex marriage is now legal in California and that it is "time to move beyond this issue."

When she had to kiss up to the local religious right goobers she was a staunch supporter for Prop. H8. But because California's Republicans can't be quite as fanatical as their brethren in the rest of the nation (for example, you cannot run for statewide office, be anti-choice and expect to win), she's done 180 degree turnaround.

It's a miracle I tell ya!

Hemp-Fuels - Environmentally friendly fuel sources

Oil is owned/controlled by the .0001% and here we're spending indefensible amounts of resources for the benefit of the.0001%. Why do we do that? We know the answer. Too many alternatives are available but are not given adequate media and/or funding, at least by the government who has tied up OUR money for tax write-offs and subsidies for Big Oil. I think we need to start demanding that more resources be invested in those alternative energy sources, one of which is hemp. I found the following article interesting and thought it might be a good read.

Hemp-Fuels - Environmentally friendly fuel sources:"

The basics: Hemp can provide two types of fuel.
1. Hemp biodiesel – made from the oil of the (pressed) hemp seed.
2. Hemp ethanol/methanol – made from the fermented stalk.

To clarify further, ethanol is made from such things as grains, sugars, starches, waste paper and forest products, and methanol is made from woody/pulp matter. Using processes such as gasification, acid hydrolysis and enzymes, hemp can be used to make both ethanol and methanol.

In this day of oil wars, peak oil (and the accompanying soaring prices), climate change and oil spills such as the one in the gulf by BP, it’s more important than ever to promote sustainable alternatives such as hemp ethanol. Hemp turns out to be the most cost-efficient and valuable of all the fuel crops we could grow on a scale that could fuel the world.

And as it turns out, the whole reason for hemp prohibition – and alcohol prohibition – may have been a fuel the realization that OIL production is threatened by any competing fuel source, especially one that requires no modifications to your car!

We haven't seen rain since last March. WooHoo!!!!!

Both Feinstein and Boxer voted "Yes" to fund Obama's newest war in the ME

Read 'em and weep:

This is who voted "No." Boxer and Feinstein names are conspicuously absent.

Baldwin (D-WI)
Barrasso (R-WY)
Begich (D-AK)
Brown (D-OH)
Coburn (R-OK)
Crapo (R-ID)
Cruz (R-TX)
Enzi (R-WY)
Gillibrand (D-NY)
Heller (R-NV)
Leahy (D-VT)
Lee (R-UT)
Manchin (D-WV)
Markey (D-MA)
Moran (R-KS)
Murphy (D-CT)
Paul (R-KY)
Risch (R-ID)
Roberts (R-KS)
Sanders (I-VT)
Sessions (R-AL)
Warren (D-MA)

Feinstein, I would expect nothing less, but Boxer? I am VERY disappointed. I really would not like to think it's because she's up in 2016 and is doing it for political reasons.

Part 3 of "The Roosevelts" will blow you away

The reasons Teddy ran as the "Progressive" candidate was because his own party (Republicans) wouldn't allow him to be the nominee. Listen to his diatribes claiming that the monied interests have taken over both parties and that no one was on the side of the working class. The similarities to our own times are chilling.

PBS has all 7 parts of "The Roosevelts" on their website as of this evening.

Reform candidate closes gap in race to be California schools chief

A former charter school executive aiming to unseat California’s education chief has closed the gap in a race shaping up to be a proxy war between school reform advocates and the state’s powerful teachers unions, a new poll shows.

The poll released Tuesday by the San Francisco-based Field Research Corp. showed Marshall Tuck, who has the backing of former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and funding from billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad, three points ahead of incumbent Tom Torlakson.

Among likely voters polled by the organization, Tuck had support from 31 percent, compared to 28 percent who favored Torlakson as the campaign begins in earnest prior to November’s election.

This Year's Fair Entries:

Ruby Boysenberry Jam
Blueberry-Basil Vinegar
Macrame bracelet
Macramé earrings

Was going to enter an Apple-Caramel Butter and Butternut Squash Pie too but took a tumble and mangled up my elbow pretty good so couldn't get to those this year.

Will know on Oct 5th if I won anything.

Fingers crossed!

On Amazon Prime: "Alpha House."

This series is hysterical. Written by Gary Trudeau, it takes no prisoners with Republicans. John Goodman stars.

Highly Recommended on Netflix streaming: "Stolen Summer"

One of those movies made awhile back but that you've probably never heard of. Starring Aiden Quinn, Bonnie Hunt and Brian Denehy.
