Filipino priest suspended after using hoverboard during Mass

The Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna has punished an unidentified priest for using a hoverboard during Christmas Eve mass. A video that has been shared widely online shows the priest gliding down a church aisle in a rather, um, holy manner? He rode the hoverboard while performing a Christmas song to top off the stunt.

The righteous hoverboarding was a major no-no in the eyes of the Diocese, according to a statement.

“It is the Church’s highest form of worship," they said. "Consequently, it is not a personal celebration where one can capriciously introduce something to get the attention of the people.”

Let us pray for the family of Tamir Rice and for all victims of crime and injustice.

God, you are just. You are perfect in all your judgments. You balance every scale. In time, all the accounts will be settled. All truth will be told. All debts will be evenly scored. For now, in this world, we can push for justice and labor for truth and fair payment, but we must often settle for less. We pray for those who have suffered a grave injustice, for those who have had something precious taken, broken, destroyed. We pray for their souls, that the loss, which cannot be replaced, will be filled with a miracle of comfort. Give the victims of crime the assurance that you stand with them, that you hate injustice even more than they hate it. Come close to the broken hearted. Console and join them in their anger. Teach them how to be angry without turning bitter. Show them how to transfer their demand for justice into your hands, in an act of forgiveness, which is not dropping the charges, but trading the responsibility for pressing the charges to your eternal court of heaven. God, be with those who have stood by as the wicked seem to survive their wickedness. Give them patient hope that in the span of eternity all truth will be told and all scales will be balanced. And as they collapse into your perfect love and wisdom, teach them that sorrow alone is the way into your deepest heart. And may they find you in their sorrow, and find from you what only you can provide… A hope that does not disappoint.

Pope's visit to Juarez will include cross-border Mass

According to Chicago's Catholic Extention society, Pope Francis plans to celebrate an afternoon Mass near the U.S.-Mexico border during his visit to Ciudad Juárez in Mexico on Feb. 17. The 4 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at the Benito Juárez Stadium "right next to the border." The Mass will be the culmination of the pope's visit to Mexico. Also today the Diocese of El Paso, Texas announced that the Mass will include a cross-border component, adding that those details are still being worked out.

According to a statement at its website: "The Diocese of El Paso is working with local, state and federal agencies to celebrate the Papal Mass at the U.S/Mexico border, specifically along Loop 375/César Chávez Highway within eyesight of the Papal Mass. Because of the anticipated crowds for this Mass, remote locations are also under consideration."

Parishes in the two U.S. dioceses across the Rio Grande river from Juárez—El Paso and Las Cruces, New Mexico—will also receive tickets for their parishioners to attend the Mass in Juárez. Pope Francis’ plan to celebrate Mass at the border is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from both the U.S. and Mexico. The Catholic Extention release suggests it "will be a significant milestone of the trip’s itinerary."

Today's update on the pope's itinerary during his Mexico visit still leaves open the question of whether or not the pope's proximity to the border suggests that he will make a personal visit to the border fence at Juarez. A spokesperson for Catholic Extention would only say, "These details are in the discussion phase. We have no specific information that we can confirm as of now."
