Man lights other man on fire "down there"
One man made the song Sex On Fire a reality this week after finding his girlfriend cheating on him with another man. The Chicago Tribune reports that the man lit another mans genitals on fire after catching him having sex with his girlfriend Monday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. This is a case of illicit afternoon delight gone terribly wrong.
According to the police report obtained by the Trib, the boyfriend beat the 30-year-old until unconscious before starting to burn him while he was still knocked out. The report also included the following sinister line that can be a warning to those pondering if cheating on your significant other is worth it or not:This will be a lesson to you, I lit your (genitals) on fire.
The man used a Bic lighter (set on high according to the police report) to do the deed. We have a hard enough time getting a Bic lighter to work in the first place to light a candle or smoke a cigarette, so to light someones crotch on fire seems like a pretty daunting and difficult task. The man with the literal balls of fire ran to a nearby laundromat where police found him applying Vaseline to his burned area in an attempt to sooth the pain. He was taken to a hospital and eventually transported to the burn unit at the University of Chicago Hospital. At the time, no one is in custody. We are surprised that no one is currently in custody since the smoking gun, er testicles, are pretty obvious in this scenario. We wish a speedy recovery to the victim and hope in the future all parties involved make better decisions in their love life. And maybe resort to a more rational way of dealing with anger than setting things (or people) on fire.

Certain former Alaska governor says Pope Francis is pushing a 'liberal' agenda
Sarah Palin has revealed that she is skeptical of the 'liberal' agenda that is being promoted by the new Pope, saying that she feels it is being influenced by the mainstream media.
'I'm kinda trying to follow what his agenda is. You know he came out with a couple of things in the media but again I'm not one to trust the media's interpretation of somebody's message but having read through media outlets,' the former Governor of Alaska said.
'He's had some statements that to me sound kind of liberal, has taken me aback, has kind of surprised me. There again, unless I really dig deep into what his messaging is, and do my own homework, Im not going to just trust what I hear in the media,' she said during an interview with CNN.

University of Michigan claims president was not drunk during speech at Michigan Stadium
By now, you might have heard University of Michigan president Mary Sue Colemans somewhat odd, eeelooonggaaaated speech during halftime of the Michigan vs. Nebraska game Saturday. Its approaching 80,000 views on YouTube.
Well, Coleman was not inebriated at the time, according to university spokesman Rick Fitzgerald. Instead, she was struggling with the audio feedback at Michigan Stadium.
She, absolutely, had not been drinking alcohol, university spokesman Rick Fitzgerald wrote in a statement. I want to underscore that point in the strongest possible way.
The awkward audio of University of Michigan President Mary Sue Colemans remarks during the halftime of the Saturdays football game resulted when she attempted to slow her speech to deal with significant feedback from the stadium public address system.

Pope's rep: U.S. bishops shouldn't preach ideology
The Vatican ambassador to the U.S., addressing American bishops at their first national meeting since Pope Francis was elected, said Monday they should not follow a particular ideology and should make Roman Catholics feel more welcome in church.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano noted the challenges from broader society to Christian teaching. He cautioned that the bishops witness to faith would be undermined if they failed to live simply. Francis, in office for eight months, has captured attention for eschewing some of the pomp of the papacy, including his decision to live in the Vatican hotel and his use of an economy car.
There has to be a noticeable lifestyle characterized by simplicity and holiness of life. This is a sure way to bring our people to an awareness of the truth of our message, said Vigano, the apostolic nuncio based in Washington.
The Holy Father wants bishops in tune with their people, Vigano said, noting that he visited the pope in June. He made a special point of saying that he wants pastoral bishops, not bishops who profess or follow a particular ideology.

North Carolina traffic alert warns of "Women Drivers, Rain, Obama Care"
The North Carolina Department of Transportation sent out a traffic alert, warning people of female drivers, rain and Obamacare.
The North Carolina DOT sends out routine alerts to drivers about accidents and road work using email and Twitter messages.
On Wednesday, the NCDOT sent out an alert which reads: A High severity incident has been Added for I-40 Eastbound in Wake County in Raleigh, before going on to list the incident as Vehicle Accident: Women Drivers, Rain, Obama Care.
The message then advised drivers: Stay Home.

Check out the makeover this homeless veteran got!
The makeover, which included a haircut, beard trim, dye job and a designer suit, was meant to inspire Wolf, from the outside in.
Its more than just a haircut and clothing. To see yourself look like that is to see that potential. There are things inside implied by the way you look outside stability and peace of mind, Bliss said.
Degage Ministries, a local charity that helps the homeless, helped put Wolf and Bliss in touch with each other, and arranged for the makeover.
Jim is someone people would have ignored. Now he looks like someone on cover of GQ, Bliss said.

Decision 2013: Two felons - including a convicted killer - elected to Flint, MI, City Council
The newly elected Flint City Council includes a convicted killer, a man who served probation for felonious assault and two people who have gone through personal bankruptcies.
Wantwaz Davis, who beat incumbent Bernard Lawler by 71 votes to win the Fifth Ward seat, served 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 1991.
Davis said he didn't hide his murder conviction from voters and openly talked about the conviction with residents, but it never was publicly reported. The Journal learned of the conviction Wednesday and Davis confirmed it when asked.
"The council people are elected. They're going to get sworn in on Monday. Nothing you write about it is going to change it now," Council President Scott Kincaid said. "It's not something that was hidden or should be a surprise to constituents in the Fifth Ward."

How will the "Francis Effect" impact next week's US bishops meeting?
If Francis has made one thing clear in his nearly nine months on the job, it is that he wants the church to radically change its tone and style, starting at the top. The pontiff has repeatedly blasted careerism among churchmen and ripped airport bishops who spend more time jetting around the globe and to Rome rather than being pastors who go out to their flock and come back smelling of the sheep, as he likes to put it.
The pope has also lamented the churchs obsession with a few moral issues, including abortion and homosexuality, and called for a new balance that highlights the churchs concern for the poor and the marginalized.
The pendulum has begun to shift back and how long it will continue to do so, well that is up to the Holy Spirit. For the moment, I find all this absolutely amazing, Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg, Fla., wrote in an enthusiastic blog post after Francis gave an interview detailing his pastoral vision for the church.
The so-called Francis Effect is showing up in various ways, as some culture-warrior bishops have moderated their language on gays or shifted their emphasis to issues such as immigration. On the other side, bishops who have struggled for years to highlight the churchs social justice teachings are getting a new hearing.
