Let me tell my Republican colleagues that I respectfully disagree with their approach. Instead of cutting Social Security, we need to expand Social Security benefits. Instead of cutting head start and childcare, we need to move to a universal pre-k system for all the children of this country. As Franklin Delano Roosevelt reminded us: The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it is whether we provide enough for those who have little. And that is a test that we as a nation must once again meet and master.

(32,047 posts)and game shows can be kind of amusing. But that's it - I see it as entertainment and have no interest in their "news". I read several sources on the Internet to try to get a handle on what is happening worldwide.

(22,308 posts)My own "Big Picture" explanation of what is going on here is this:
After the Great Depression the country was ready to move away from pure Capitalism and toward an economy which included some Socialist aspects.
Now, after the Great Recession the country is ready to move away from the Reagan/Bush/Bush economy and create a stronger social safety net than now exists.
It is a specific moment in history and we need to take advantage of it. We can't come back 4 or 8 years later and get it done. We need Bernie (or someone just like him) to win in this cycle. This chance may not come again for decades.
We are extremely lucky to have someone running who has spent over 40 years promoting exactly what this country now wants/needs.

(32,047 posts)I can still remember how relieved I was when he walked Bush to his helicopter to leave DC. On top of that he put in place a blueprint for basic healthcare. It's time to do more now & I think people want more. They want healthcare, social security, basic needs met. Bernie has the legislative experience to make those changes happen. He has been in Congress over 20 years and active on the local level prior to that. He can do this job - and do it well.
All the republicans want to do is continue on the Reagan/Bush path with more money for millionaires. That is not what 99% of this country needs or wants.

(5,400 posts)The Republicans will get a history lesson when they run against Sanders. When a candidate actually speaks to the issues people care about, you better have a real platform ready in response.
They don't, and they won't, and we'll beat them because of that.
