Legendary investigative journalist Seymour Hersh weighs in on the foreign policy positions of the 2016 presidential candidates. "For me to say who Im going to vote for and all that
Im not a political leader, thats not what Im into," Hersh says. "But I will say this: Something thats amazing is happening in this country, and for the first time, I do think its going to be very hard for a lot of the people who support Sanders to support Hillary Clinton.
Theres a whole group of young people in America, across the board, all races, etc., etc., who have just had it with our system."

(55,981 posts)Millions and millions of eligible voters do not vote because they believe the system is rigged. I will say that again for those that don't understand. Millions don't vote because they think the system is rigged. The only reason for their current enthusiasm is the hope presented by Sen Sanders' candidacy. Take that away and they will go back to none participation. Authoritarian followers have a hard time understanding that because they don't understand that we are all not good little authoritarian soldiers. They are easily bullied and think that the rest of us will also put up with the bulling. Well, Homey don't play that game. If you want to help those struggling in the 99%, vote Sanders. Otherwise you'll get what you'll get.

On what planet would I leartn to love war and fracking and cluster bombs? Not this one, for fucking sure.
And my grandson and his friends? The kindest thing they say about Hillary? The SOS stands for same old shit, and, inevitably, some new shit. They are not going to vote for that. If I can get my grandson to vote down-ticket with me (because that is all i will do), then that is the best that can be done.
This is all on the Clintons, the Third Way, and the DNC. No one else. We don't have to eat shit for dinner, no matter who serves it to us. I would go hungry, or go and find something else to eat. Looks like that never entered their entitled little minds.

Bernie is the right person for this moment in time to bring our country back to the people and away from the military industrial complex and the oligarchs.

(24,010 posts)It's heartening to see a man of such extraordinary intelligence and integrity, and vast experience of the world, marvel at the Sanders phenomenon. What he says, in essence, is that the Sanders campaign is not just a politics-as-usual race for power among sanctioned candidates but rather a deep rebellion against the Establishment, in particular because of Sanders' overwhelming support by those under 45 years of age.
But another of his insights, on the political front, is perhaps the most interesting: He says that this is the first time a Democratic presidential candidate has not had to go to the Israel lobby for financial support. Sanders' method of financing his presidential campaign is revolutionary in many respects. Having millions of small donors not only represents massive grass roots support, it frees Sanders from the ties to dirty money that corrupt almost all of our elected office holders and candidates. But I hadn't thought of this other consequence--the Israel lobby, which has so corrupted our foreign policy, on top of the oil lobby.
The Middle East is Hersh's specialty as a journalist. He understands how bad it has been to have rightwing militarists in power in Israel, and therefore Israel and its lobbyists in the U.S. constantly in support of militarist solutions. To have a serious candidate for president NOT beholden to the Israel lobby is, in itself, revolutionary.
Imagine a foreign policy that is our own--not dictated by Israel, or Saudi Arabia, or transglobal corporations and banksters!
A Sanders presidency certainly wouldn't mean that we would abandon Israel. But it would likely mean a return to the much better polices of Jimmy Carter, in which the U.S. acted as an "honest broker" in the Israel-Palestinian conflict and sought a peaceful and just solution to it. "Hallelujah!" I'd say, because THAT is the only path to Israel's safety, as well as to the well-being of the people of the Middle East!

(19,926 posts)They've pushed us too far. They chose to go the corporate route and now they've gotten themselves solidly in the right wing policy stances and that is too far for us to continue to support them. What Bernie has stirred up will continue and will most likely turn into a third party with or without him.
It really has become the lesser of two evils and anyone who supports the less evil is still supporting evil. People are not that much better off under Dem admins than under GOP admins save for some social issues. I'm not saying they are not important but why did we ever compromise the economic issues? The DLC/Third Way sold us out. They thought we would settle for social freedom without financial freedom. Fuck that.
That's why at the beginning of Bernie's campaign they all came out with that false choice of either or when there's no reason we can't have both. Why are they making us choose which we want to not have? Because that is what they are doing when they make that false claim that it's one or the other.
Well that's not good enough. And I'm not voting for not good enough any more. Especially when Great is running in the form of Bernie Sanders.
