Coloradans still high on marijuana legalization

DENVER – A new poll shows that more than two years after Colorado voters legalized marijuana, they still widely support the pioneering experiment.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday indicates that 62 percent of voters still back the first-in-the-nation experiment, compared to 34 percent who don’t.

The result shows an uptick from a February Quinnipiac survey, in which 58 percent of said they support legalization, while 38 percent opposed.

The Quinnipiac poll also indicated that legalization hasn’t caused a surge in use, with only 18 percent of Colorado voters saying they tried it since it became legal. There’s even wider support for medical marijuana, with 89 percent of Colorado voters backing medical legalization, while only 8 percent oppose.

Coloradans legalized recreational marijuana in 2012, with 55 percent supporting and 45 percent opposing.

there is a large discussion about edibles however. Some
sad events of "overdosing" results have led to this
kind of dispute.

2. And that's a discussion that should be had.

I don't think candy bars should contain any more than 5 servings (10mg) each--when you're talking about 200+mg servings in a single small candy bar, it is very easy to overdose. I recently found a (delicious and wonderful) brownie that had over 400mg in it. I could handle that, but if a new user tried it, they would have had a horrible time.

Yes, there is something to be said for personal responsibility, but that's like serving someone a small glass of punch with everclear. It's just not a good idea. Thankfully people will be okay afterwards, it'll just be a pretty bad night.

4. edibles are so hit and miss

i'm a pretty heavy smoker and i ate half a candy bar from one shop and nothing (i spaced out the servings knowing they take time), one bite off a granola/cookie/brownie bar from another shop and i drooled on myself for an hour. can't talk

the denver post recently had a variety of edibles tested for dosage and, in every case, the actual dosage was lower than the labeled dosage.

But realizing that there are still challenges left in health and safety in no way negates the public's desire for legalization.

5. 'overdosing' on pot is exponentially more rate than overdosing on alcohol

and there's no dispute there. the one time i bought edibles, the woman behind the counter talked to me about the recommended dosage and how it takes time for it to set in and i have no reason to doubt that discussion in shops across the state.
