2. Looks like some good common sense to me, Midwest Irish

Patrice is a long time member here and has earned this benefit of any doubt: "I'll bet my house Patrice would be against that and merely meant the term as a colorful way to describe a virtual punishment."

4. Pollitical correctness is alive & well at DU. All anyone had to do was either Reply to that post and

ask me to change that term.

Or PM me and ask me to change the that term.

Though I disagree that it is dis-respectful to women in this context, I would have been fine about changing it, because it wouldn't affect the purpose of what I said.

Alerting shows that power to control what gets posted on the board and what doesn't get posted is more important than just dealing with an instance of what it is claimed is dis-respect to others.

If mitigating the alleged dis-respect were more important to the alerter, the alerter would have Replied or PM'ed me with the request that I suggested above. The alerter didn't do that, so it is likely that the power to censor this board ranks higher in the alterter's priorities than anything to do with women's rights.

By dis-respecting my voice in a fascist act of censorship, the alerter creates the potential for dis-respect for their own voice and, hence, for the issue that they supposedly care sooooooooooooo much about. But I'm bigger than that, so I will continue to honor women's rights without the alerters' respect.

And isn't it pretty darned interesting that attempts at that kind of fascist control of what gets posted here would occur in a thread about the media and some 1%s' problems with being asked the gentlest of questions.

15. It's okay. I strongly support the 1st Amendment, because I have taught high school.

And as far as women's rights are concerned, one of my closest friends is a homeless mother . . . with teenage daughters.

13. well-stated

This is why I hate the whole alert thing. You confront ideas you don't like with other ideas, not censorship. And that exercise of power rather than a defense of a right, that really does seem to be it. Great point.

7. deep sigh

Well, ain't that a bitch?

There's a point at which sensitivity can become an autoimmune disorder and does more harm than good. If comments that aren't discriminatory are jumped on with as much force as those that are, you'll make a mockery of the very concept of being polite, contextually-aware human beings.

11. I may not have been at DU for very long,

However I have been on the boards enough to know that patrice respects women. She also fully supports VAWA.

Enough said!

14. And women know that it's not good to use force of power, when a simple request could do what

needs to be done.

you are about an issue, fascism and cults of personality, hurt concrete issue outcomes.

My apologies to seabeyond and DU, for the previous version of this particular post. DU really does honor freedom and women's rights.
