Will we be able to post issues regarding Women in general or is this not the group to do so in?
Example: Let's say I would like to discuss health care issues for Women, is this the forum?
I'm grateful we are here but I want to make sure I am following the rules! Thank you to my sisters who helped set up this group!

(110,159 posts)for now, post what you are interested in. this caught people by surprise and now is not the best time for some. "we could let things sort of move on its own momentum the first week or so and then try to tackle some of the more structural issues"
how does that sound?
i am really looking forward to hearing from you and the other women, that feel the same as you, and what you are interested in.

(11,065 posts)I think most group forums kind of morph into what they are on their own anyway. As long as the group members like how the group is I don't see a problem. I'd like to see others' opinions on that though... I like group consensis.

(110,159 posts)this forum should look like. i know, from past experience that BB and hlthe2b and violet crumble are STRONG believers in group think, for a feminist forum.

Thanks sea. It is so good to see you back and here and in action!

(11,065 posts)At the moment I'm kind of just reading and seeing what goes on before getting my feet wet. I rather the cautious type like that though.
In any case, I'm glad the group is here!

(110,159 posts)i would love to hear the subjects you are into, also. i have always enjoyed your posts. there were so many women i wanted to listen to, before all of it was shut down. i really see this forum as a cozy room, to discuss what we are interested in our lives, as females. what we are interested in exploring. what i see as a difference, is the threads dont move quickly. so often i like to read and then think about something someone says, to come back and explore it some more.

(11,065 posts)not of feminism but more of how women got to be so subjugated in the first place. It seems that in those places and cultures where there were multi-gods (multi-god cultures had both male and female gods) women in the culture were more equal and had power in their own right. Fascinating stuff. And also frightening in how bad things became for women. The middle ages right up through the Renaissance was probably the worst time to be a woman. It's horrible not only how subjugated women were through all classes but how women generally condoned it. That's also facinating... how/why women themselves greatly contributed to their own subjugation.

(34,105 posts)Do post more about that. That is the kind of history many of us are aware of in general but the specifics and trends maybe not so much. We must watch what has happened before our time and try to understand it if we are to avoid repeating those past mistakes. I thought we had done so but the trend shows that we have not.
I have a lot of thoughts, most very simple and from just living during a huge transformative time for women, that make me think we can resolve many of the issues between the waves. I, for one, would love to hear what you have learned about this.

I am also SO HAPPY you are posting here. I love it!

(11,065 posts)The first thing I noticed about this group is that most of the people posting are those people that I've always generally liked (and actually remembered who they are!) on DU anyway.
Being the cautious type generally (I swear I'm the last person to get or try anything) I wasn't sure if I wanted to even sign up but since I've always been a history buff (all times and all places and generally all subjects) and have become fascinated by the history of women in general for the last several years I really latched onto the "history" bit of this group. I just feel a lot better now about getting the feet wet seeing that there are so many people in here that I've always just generally liked over the years anyway.
Oh wow! I just noticed the spellchecker is back!

It would be awesome to see religion through history from aa feminist viewpoint all in one book.

(34,105 posts)by our new rabbi in town. We are small enough here that we have only one temple and they hired a woman and she is dynamite. I am not Jewish, don't go to temple so I have no other experience with her, but she spoke to a Fine Arts sort of women's group I belong to. She spoke of all that was not written about women in the Bible. Some of it was speculative, some had been recorded (?) but not included in the big book. She had a lot of references but it was long ago and I did not save them sadly.
I would bet if you have not already looked (and you probably have) that you could find a lot seeking specific names on the net, perhaps through Jewish references, maybe you don't even need to be that specific?
I remember the story she told of Lot's wife Sarah. She ignored what the angels had said and turned when Sodom was destroyed and was turned into a block of salt. The question was why would she do such a thing? Ignoring angels is bad business. Well, her children were in the town and that may be why she turned, wouldn't you? So, was she evil or just acting as a mother?

(102,221 posts)to women. We absolutely want this group to serve the members/users' needs. While we initially sought to identify an area of feminism not currently being fully addressed (historical context of feminism) in our request to form this group, I should think we would want to be able to discuss a very broad spectrum of women's issues. I really feel like this is the opportunity to make the group what we all want it to be. So have at it!
Given my own sig line, of course I'd personally love it, if there is relevant history to the shaping (or prediction of current events or issues, that that be discussed as well. LOL

(110,159 posts)i have been having so much fun over the last couple days, researching and finding all kinds of things. i think i may be more interested in the recent history. i am really interested in delving into 70's-2000 and see what the hell happened that allowed us to get to where we are today.
i am also having a blast with some of these videos on women suffragettes and learning stuff i never knew. so when the more academic minded women start coming in and putting the smarts into the thread, i am going to be thrilled.
all in good time.
