(41,973 posts)Men don't like to be called creepy, or something like that? I think they're over it. Probably have "Creep Pride" tee shirts

(115,103 posts)They're liars and cons though so I doubt they'd warn any unsuspecting women by kindly wearing shirts or hats with labels.
There are still guys who don't consider themselves creeps who find it offensive and insulting though. The ones who still haven't figured out which of society's patriarchal lessons they still need to unlearn.

(41,973 posts)I was just reading an overlong wordy article in Esquire-creepy misogyny/sexism for the intellectual mag--sniveling how men are being 'sneered' at.

all this garbage endlessly, anonymously on a computer. and they hide from the light of day in shame, when those around them know their perversity. i mean, reading how the PM of australia speech went viral calling out misogyny. and that applause of this, in a govt forum. yet, i cannot get past how so many on du will continually say that all this behavior is just clean good fun and there is nothing sexist or misogynistic in it. both men and women.
there is that same behavior, though to a lesser degreee.
and that is the normalization of it.
everyone has there line. they will argue for it until it reaches their line, just not anothers.
i really do not know how a rational woman can see this behavior and not see the harm to her gender and to those young girls that follow them.

(41,973 posts)Well many do, but they have normalized it. It's part of the norm therefore while they may warn their daughters--who are so indoctrinated by society they may not understand, they don't teach their sons how sick this is.

(115,103 posts)we're all raised thinking the patriarchy is the 'normal' state of society. So it's only reasonable that the vast majority of men and women both would think there's nothing wrong with it.
That whole fish/water thing.

(26,602 posts)I expected (even just scratching the surface). And the GD OP was horrifying.
Something I've always thought was odd (although apparently it doesn't really apply to this individual) was the degree to which people believe that their online persona is not who they 'really are.' E.g. - sure, I post creepy semi-porn of tween girls, but that's just the internet, I'm not really like that!

(26,602 posts)that the internet is somehow hermetically different from 'real life', even as many of us spend a huge amount of time online, and increasingly take our cues about social and personal behavior from the internet.
Plus, there's a real-life component at both ends of this process: consumers of this creep-imagery go out and interact with real people, perhaps influenced in their behavior by the 'values' they've learned online, and I have to guess that many of the victims of this imagery are aware (if not at the time then later) that they're being ogled, leered at, photographed, and insulted...

(110,159 posts)though for some of us it is the obvious, i appreciate how you state it. thanks.
