Why is no one talking about Romney's Hispanic comment
He said too bad his father wasn't actually a Mexican instead of just living there. it would have been so much easier to win. I found it incredibly offensive. it has hardly been mentioned in the coverage.
The Democratic National Committee also distributed separately a clip from the video in which Romney jokes that he would fare better in the election if he were Latino. Romney's father was born in Mexico. "Had he been born of Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot of winning this," Romney said in the video tape. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/17/us-usa-campaign-romney-video-idUSBRE88G1H320120917?feedType=RSS&feedName=politicsNews&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Reuters%2FPoliticsNews+%28Reuters+Politics+News%29

Last edited Tue Sep 18, 2012, 02:16 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) Not because it's less important or less offensive. But because it can chew up another news cycle that keeps Romney off message.
Then the media can get into kicking the can down the road on Israel Then the media can get into his failure to understand dirty nukes, etc. then whatever comes out this afternoon on the balance of the tape. I hope the media keeps chattering for a week or two about this crap to help bury him and the GOP. |

7. I think this 'Hispanic' comment was worse:
|
if the Hispanic voting bloc becomes as committed to the Democrats as the African American voting block has in the past, why, we're in trouble as a party and, I think, as a nation.
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/09/secret-video-romney-private-fundraiser So he's going to blame the nation being in trouble in the future on Hispanics and African Americans. |

12. so...
|
how exactly is it untrue? If the GOP loses a substantial segment of the Hispanic vote like they have with the black vote, the party is doomed.

It's offensive that the Democratic opponent thinks the nation is worse off if the GOP doesn't exist?
Would you feel the country wouldn't be worse off if the Democratic Party disappeared? |

20. why?
|
He thinks the GOP would disappear if the Hispanic vote goes the way of the black vote (which it would). Why would he NOT think it would damage the country? Frankly, if he didn't think this wouldn't he just become a Democrat?

23. obviously
|
In trouble as a party is no different than disappearing. The point is, the GOP would have no impact on elections, which would make the Democrats the only game in town. If he didn't think that was a bad thing, he wouldn't be a Republican right now.

25. Did the Democratic party disappear when they were in trouble? Why assume the Repubs would? The point
|
is they would have an impact but may not win as much as they would like.

27. There's an alternative.
|
The Republican party could choose to encourage diversity within the party with meaningful legislation that addresses the needs of the socioeconomically disadvantaged, and spurs job and economic growth within those communities.
That would give the Democrats a run for their money. The party could still be socially conservative (Ryan), pro free-enterprise (Romney) but still be more inclusive. Hispanics and African-Americans are socially conservative. If the party actually welcomed them, things would get VERY interesting. But the bigots would have to die off first, and unfortunately, a new crop is being born, partly in reaction to the "unthinkable heresy" of a black president. Bigots should have their own party. Too bad Republicans embrace them. And THAT's why I'm okay with them dying as a party. |

The Hispanic meme ties in with the mooching 47% segment. Hispanics, like African Americans, only vote for Democrats so they can get government benefits.

Don't worry, it will have its moment in the spotlight. Right now we're relishing his total trash of the Moochers...ie. the 47 % of us he is willing to write off.
As soon as the uproar dies down a little from the moocher thing, the Hispanic gaff will come to the front of the news. We have to be patient about these things. Savor the moment and watch Mitt sink into the setting sun. Oh, and his little friend, Paulie, with him. Buh-bye, weasels. Don't let the screen door hit ya in the ass on your way out!! |

Mexican-American issues are not high on my list, but I care. Immigrants are critical to our nation's survival, and I hope that the Mexican-American community thrives just as any other immigrant group that has come here. I also think they are a critical voting bloc and stupid to ignore.

When a white or black man is beaten up by the police, people become outraged, but when it's a Mexican, no one hardly even notices, or maybe they make a remark that he's probably an undocumented alien and they move on.
