It's not as though the ONLY possible way to fight crime was to bust people in poor neighborhoods and neighborhoods of color for trivial offenses like loitering, or to rough up EVERYBODY at the crime scenes, even the witnesses and at times the victims(as was happening in cities like Baltimore).

Or to use "kill first, ask questions later" engagement policies like the won used to justify the murder of a twelve year old in Cleveland.

You can fight crime and respect people's rights, can still give everybody the presumption of innocence.

The fight for drug legalization comes, at least in part, out of the realization that much of the crime, and much of the criminal response to those crimes, came out of the "drug war" that our party aided and abetter out of cowardice. If we had done what we should have done and treated drugs as a social issue, rather than a domestic military intervention, BLM would probably not have to exist(and, among other things, Gore would have carried not only Florida but his own home state.

This happens over and over...some sort of "law and order" fever takes place, everybody in politics is too gutless to stand up to it, a lot of people who did nothing really all that wrong get harassed, beaten, falsely arrested, or killed...and then, twenty years later, a few lame apologies are made when it's too late to matter. Embalm, bury, repeat.

The case was discussed in both the AA Group and the HoF Group, because it spoke to a larger problem, than even BLM ...the wholesale exploitation for vulnerable populations by police.

The most heart-wrenching testimony of the victims was where they didn't come forward because they didn't believe they would be believed because they were Black women accusing a white cop.

And your lack of awareness, and steadfast refusal to inform yourself, suggests they may have been correct ... not because (I would hope) you are unfeeling; but rather, because your concerns are different.

A really unhealthy space, when this OP can be seen as "point scoring" and "using rape victims (and Black folks) as props" ... by folks threatening not to vote if their preferred candidate does not earn/win the Democratic nomination.

WOW!

A former Oklahoma City police officer has been convicted of sexually assaulting women he preyed upon in a low-income neighborhood he patrolled.

A jury convicted Daniel Holtzclaw of four charges of first-degree rape and 14 other counts.

Holtzclaw was charged with 36 counts for incidents from December 2013 to June 2014, and he was fired in January 2015. He was convicted of 18 counts connected to eight women, all of whom were black and who testified against him.

They are a group willing to embolden republicans in elections. They are simply fools. Thankfully the posters here will overwhelmingly vote for our nominee. We at DU are better than the LIV's that will end up supporting republicans in the general with a vote or by sitting it out.

for anyone that calls him or herself a democrat, progressive, leftist, or independent and would sit by and allow a fascist republican to take the reins of power over this country for the next eight years.

People that would do this are worse than the republicans they claim to be against. At least the fucking republicans lay out exactly who and what they are so you know they are evil bastards.

The progressive that claims to care about social justice, PoC, out of control police, a living wage, women's rights, etc and sits at home and helps republicans get elected is the lowest POS on the face of the earth to me.

I will gladly vote for Bernie Sanders should he win the nomination and I would even contribute what little money I could spare to his campaign, and I would urge everyone I know to vote for him.

Anyone on this board that promises to never vote for the democratic nominee for president should be insta banned outta here for life IMO!

They are de facto fascist fucking REPUBLICANS and should be treated as such!

You folks drop your social justice concerns for whatever political attacks are expedient and then pick them right back up again in earnest. I would think that would be exhausting.

203. Is this about MaggieD's posts raving about her refusal to vote for the nominee?
Fri Dec 11, 2015, 10:28 AM
Dec 2015

Here is an example, a thread in which she says she won't vote for the nominee unless it is her choice of nominees over and over gain and you, Janey, are right there with her, not at all critical of her anti nominee stance:
"Bernie supporters are a big reason I will never support Bernie."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1251878490#post4

She's already on a time out, and that really should be enough for you, no reason to attack her endlessly like this.

Plus, the verbiage you use is exploitative of crime victims. Not really worth it just to take a swipe at posters like MaggieD.
