Politico: Chris Christie's flop at the GOP convention

TAMPA, Fla. — There is no mistaking what a successful keynote speech for Chris Christie would have looked and sounded like. There would have been an electric reaction from the crowd in the convention hall. It would have been followed by waves of effusive media commentary about how people had just heard the future of the Republican Party.

Judged by these standards, there is also no mistaking what the New Jersey governor delivered instead: A prime-time belly-flop, one that notably failed to clear either of those two high bars.

The reaction in the audience was mildly enthusiastic, and muted in comparison to the reception given to Ann Romney just minutes before Christie spoke. Political commentary about the 24-minute speech — while some of it has been favorable — has been dominated by discussion of whether Christie offered too many words about himself and too few about Romney or about the kind of original and provocative ideas that many were expecting on such a major occasion.

The fallout on Wednesday was the talk of Tampa and left Christie on the defensive to avoid lasting damage to his political fortunes. It also revealed tensions between the Christie and Mitt Romney camps.

So either 1) Romney's campaign people didn't vet the speech or, 2) Romney's campaign people are a bunch of idiots.

Saying how great Christie's speech was and how terrified the Dems are today of how well he did.

Grenell just can't help himself. It must be hard to be in a Party where you have to sit at the back of the bus because you're gay and where you get fired because people like Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association demand your removal.

Grenell even got into a Twitter argument with openly-gay actor Harvey Fierstein yesterday too.

maybe he calculated that Rmoney was toast and this would be a chance to toot his own horn as a first salvo for 2016.

It's no different than when bobby brady jindal gave the repuke rebuttal to one of President Obama's speeches. He was testing the toilet water for 2012 to see if he would float. Unfortunately for him, he failed miserably.

than usual.

I am delighted with this marvelous turn of events! Altho, in the case of Mitt's campaign, it is hardly a "turn, " more like a continuation of the nosedive this guy's campaign is in...

Romney is still tied with Obama in some of the polls and is ahead in fundraising, so let's not get overconfident.

But the CNN anchors did comment last night that Romney looked angry during Christie's speech.

And, that Christie's I speech was noted 43 times and Romney mentioned 7 times..I'm wild guessing here that it was ALL LIES.

Of course Crisco "Twinkie" Christie is an asshole so it serves them right if they are harmed by his speech.

He has the intellectual capacity of a rock: "I'm the Governor of New Jersey so shut the fuck up"

If THAT wasn't enough, I'll tell you what I REALLY think of the guy.
